WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 exceeds all my expectations and even surpasses them; of the three versions available, the PSP is the most fun to play, and while there are still loading times and a few glitches here and there, it can't tarnish the fact that THQ managed to fit almost everything from the 360 version into a machine not even half as powerful. For WWE fans this will be much more satisfying than the 2006 release and for grapple or beat-em-up fans this is a good way to spend a long commute - and that's the bottom line… because the PSP said so!

Overall this is a great game. The controls feel right and the storylines you experience going through season mode are exactly like the ones WWE fans see every week. If you are looking for a great wrestling/fighting game then be sure to give this one a try. I definitely recommend it to people, just beware that it is not 100% accurate in its portrayal of some of the wrestlers. The achievements in this game vary from something as easy as creating a stable to something like winning matches over Xbox Live. If THQ can just issue a patch over Xbox Live addressing the issues that this game has then it could be one of the best WWE games ever. As it stands right now it is a great game, however it could be better.

SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is a lot like Raw Superstar Umaga: It's an absolute monster, with tons of power while simultaneously possessing impressive agility. The few gameplay missteps threaten to negate the cool new control options, but the title as a whole is a true next-gen juggernaut that all gamers -- not just those of us who know what a DX crotch-chop is -- should take a serious look at. To paraphrase a Ric Flair quote, "Whether you like wrestling or hate it, learn to love this game, because it's the best thing going!"

For the last three years, the Smackdown vs. Raw series has easily outshone every other wrestling titles, including the other WWE titles. It’s not surprising then that THQ has ditched the other WWE series like Day of Reckoning and taken the formerly PS2 exclusive SDvsR games multiplatform. This year, the Xbox 360 and PS2 both get the game, and it remains the best wrestling title around – not that there’s any real competition.

I have never seen a fighting game with such depth and atmosphere and the twenty years of violent entertainment called WWE are condensed into one fine PS2 title. Those who have never watched a wrestling match will be shocked and the fans will be screaming for more blood, while playing the game before and after the weekly WWE dose, available in the weekend nights.

SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is actually a step down from last year’s stellar game but with tighter controls and tons of extras, this is still a game that offers enough thrills to keep wrestling fans happy. Sure the awful framerate problems will frustrate as will the long load times but considering the deep single-player modes and the tons of extras, this one might not be perfect but it still has all the right moves.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 can do no wrong as it enters the next generation of gaming and for a first time on an Xbox console. Sure, there is room for improvement, most noticeable in giving the gamer more direct input on the season, and keeping the roster up to date, but the bottom line is that Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 will keep us wrestling fans happy until next year. I'm looking forward to the general progression of the series, and if you have last years 2006 edition it's worth it to upgrade, and it should be no brainier if you have an Xbox 360.

These small qualms aside, SmackDown's next-gen debut should garner a huge pop from grapple gurus. And until Midway releases its game based on the wrestlers from NWA: TNA, SmackDown will be the king of the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all sizes! Are you ready for the next-gen debut of WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW 2007 on the Xbox 360? You'd better be because this one's got more punch than Andre the Giant's right hand. The pretty face-lift and refined game mechanics are great but they can only mask the fact that Smackdown 07 is still a frustrating, button masher.

Smackdown! Vs. RAW 2007 is definitely a game that proves most valuable to those who waded through the garbage that was the Xbox wrestling game scene. There’s certainly a slew of issues here, but none of them detract so much that you can’t enjoy the entertaining season mode, deep creation features, and totally playable online component. If you’re at all on the hunt for a wrestling game on 360, you won’t have many options, but Smackdown! Vs. RAW 2007 delivers the consistent experience of its PS2 predecessors.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 has its share of lingering problems that probably ought to have been cleaned up long ago, and some of the improvements it makes don't come across as terribly necessary. But what the game does right, it does very right. There's so much to do and experience throughout the game, and as a multiplayer game, it's a riot to play, especially with a lot of the crazy gimmick matches. Not to mention that for fans of Microsoft's consoles, this is the first time that an Xbox system has gotten a wrestling game worth its salt, and that fact alone ought to excite just about any Xbox 360 owner out there. Longtime fans of the series will be disappointed by a few shortcomings, but they'll ultimately enjoy what the game offers. And for those who've missed out on the SmackDown! series during its many years as a Sony-system exclusive, it's a great chance for you to find out what you've been missing out on.

All things considered, SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is a great title, even if it's a stepping stone to what will hopefully be a phenomenal update in the future on next-gen consoles.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
Smackdown Versus RAW 2007 is living, breathing proof that sometimes a game is greater than the sum of its parts. Flaws are plentiful and at times glaring, yet somehow, the game is so shamelessly addictive that once you actually play it, you can't be pulled away. SvR2007 is the kind of title that is best enjoyed in a large gaming group, of course, and if you have and enjoy last year's edition, you may want to approach with caution and perhaps rent this first. The typical caveats apply as well. Get the PS2 version if you don't have an Xbox 360, but be well aware that the PS2 version is simply a port of the other game to a less-powerful system — things will be watered down and made less dazzling, even if it's not much. In addition, the multitude of overwhelming loading screens gets suffocating at times, even so far that the developers included additional loading screens as unlockable extras.

Don't let our nitpicking fool you (after all, we snipe because we care) -- WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is still an imposing beast of a wrestling game. Regardless of its dated animations, rosters, and foolish AI, it's still a heck of a lot of fun. Thousands of different grappling holds await those who tread its squared circle, while the new analog-based mechanics and ultimate control moves add depth to a system that most would expect to be exhausted. In other words, think of SmackDown 2007 as the Ric Flair of videogames -- a wrestling great with enough titles and fond memories to keep its forward momentum for yet another, but aged to a point where we're questioning how much longer it can go.

None of this stops the game from being a whole lot of fun, though, especially with some friends. The current generation of hardware isn’t dead yet; this is a great game to play as you wait for next year’s game on PS3.

All in all, Smackdown vs. Raw will do just what it has for the last couple of years. It will satisfy the hardcore wrestling crowd and keep them entertained until the next one comes out, but the casual fan will probably tire of it after finishing the season mode. It’s certainly a well-made game in many regards, but outside of the Ultimate Control additions, doesn’t feel entirely different from the last couple of installments.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 is not without its share of faults. There are visual hiccups, the music often sounds like someone hit their thumb with a hammer and screamed into a microphone, the commentary is repetitive and disjointed, and both the career and general manager modes could have used additional tweaks and options for a more robust single-player experience. Yet the quality of the action and the intuitive controls will not disappoint wrestling fans. Playing WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 on Xbox 360 is a lot like being on the receiving end of Trish Stratus' "stratusfaction." Sure you'll wince a few times, but it's hard not to appreciate the view.

So, in conclusion, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is a solid update to the franchise. It doesn't rise leaps and bounds above its PS2 predecessor, but it adds enough in the way of new controls to keep the gameplay fun. Even if it's not as arcade-centric as the older versions, it's user-friendly enough for people who hate wrestling games to want to pick it up and play. I'd recommend it even more emphatically were the online multiplayer more competent, although the 360 version fares better than the PS2 game. Still, for what is essentially a next-gen game, it definitely has the stumbles of a first-time endeavor for Yuke's. In a genre that can finally maximize the potential of digital distribution of video, music, and character files, it would be nice to see SvR have some downloadable content over Xbox Live Marketplace.

If you want to wrestle, there's no better option at the moment than WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007. Graphically on top, filled with possibilities added with an excellent and vast collection of moves and completed with a great control mechanism. Only the models should be a bit more realistic and also the energy meter could use some work.

PSPGameSpot
Ultimately, SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 on the PSP is a fine wrestling game in its own right, though it's hard to recommend it over either of the available console versions. You once again get the bulk of the major modes, presentational components, and new gameplay features found in the PS2 and 360 games, but with everything scaled back as much as it is, you can't call the game anything but third best among the pack. Additionally, the lack of online and the lengthy loading times limit some of the game's value and appeal as a handheld title. It's a very good package that will certainly serve any PSP owner well, but if you can find your way to one of the other available versions of SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007, you should.

There may be too many problems and issues which really hurt Smackdown vs. Raw 2007, but they can be overcome by any WWE fan. Making Smackdown a yearly release was somewhat detrimental because it didn't receive enough necessary upgrades, but that also means that we won't have to wait too long before next year's edition, which might address the problem areas. For those who are willing to invest the time, Smackdown is a really good and interesting wrestling title that's worthy of its namesake.

But like I said before, I need more from a next generation console than the graphics I've been given. I know damn well that the system is capable of it. Yeah the wrestlers look right. They should, you've taken their photographs and slapped them on digitized sculptures of their actual heads. Of course it will look like them. Take a lesson from some of the masters of the art of people rendering. Try adding hinges to their jaws. Maybe add some actual speech during the superstars' intros. Do something short of an FMV for these wrestlers that makes me believe that I'm seeing the superstar not some lifeless robot clone that lacks the ability to express emotion and the powers of speech. Do that and I'll be the first to point out its genius.

Smackdown does a pretty good job of updating the game and fans will enjoy it, though there are issues that need addressing in future instalments.

WWE SmackDown vs RAW is ultimately a decent game. Atmosphere is one thing that WWE has in abundance and WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2007 provides us with a healthy chunk of it. Even with its glaring weaknesses, I would definitely recommend it to anybody who is a fan of the genre. If you aren't a wrestling fan then it may still be worth a look-in just for the fun factor…and the divas!

In the end, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 is a great game for WWE fans, whether you own a PlayStation 2 or an Xbox 360. The game engine is certainly in need of a makeover, and this might be the last year THQ can offer what is more or less a slight update, but it's a fun game and something that will get more than a few hours play with some mates.

Für Wrestling-Fans ein absolutes „must have“.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 for the PSP might be considered weak in light of the online and offline features in the hulking Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 versions. By itself, it's a thoroughly entertaining wrestling game. So, if you're a PSP-carrying WWE fan, we've got two words for ya -- snag it.

With Xbox Live play that allows created titles to be defended and lost, WWE followers have plenty of replay value once the main story is complete. The increased graphical detail has some rough spots like exaggerated bodies or faces that barely resemble the superstar, though it's enough of an update to consider it part of the Xbox 360 family. It's a guaranteed purchase this year if you have the hardware and enjoy the familiar gameplay.

WWE Smackdown! Vs.

The entrances are a good example of what's wrong with the series. They look fantastic. Mr Kennedy saunters in, grabs the mike, and announces himself. Pick HBK and Triple H as a tag team and they'll come out to their DX music. They're amazing. And you'll only watch them a handful of times before you'll skip them in order to get to the match. The amount of effort is impressive, but misplaced, which applies to the series as a whole. I would love for Yuke's to do the same thing that I've always wanted EA and Konami to do - combine their best efforts. DOR is like Pro Evo - the gameplay is the most important thing, but there's an almost arrogant attitude to the trimmings. They may be less important, but that doesn't mean they have no importance at all.

The career mode finally last longer than a season, but GM mode still needs a major overhaul; too bad load times nearly broke my PS2! This one’s dodgy, folks, on a technical level, even if the career mode is an artistic milestone!

Despite the few perks, Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 does not measure up to its televised counterpart. It is, however, worth a play for any fighting game fan looking to play something besides Tekken on their PSP. Hopefully, next year's edition will be cleaned up a bit so we as gamers can finally play without laying the smackdown on the PSP itself.

PSPPAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
Overall the PSP version of WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 is a very good recreation of the console versions and provides a good game of wrestling, even with lesser details and slightly crammed controls. However, the lack of portability and obtuse load times mean that it has no advantage over the PS2 or Xbox 360 versions - that, and you'll be paying the same, if not more than the PS2 version. If you MUST have a portable wrestler, this will do the job but for most people, there is no reason to play this game outside of their lounge rooms.

The improvements made to the 2007 PSP edition of SmackDown are indeed commendable, but the exclusion of its focal selling point is a huge blow to the overall worth. In its current state, it's a crippled -- yet still decent -- wrestling title. Much like its console big brother.
