When an UFO is discovered, you try to shoot it down with your fighters. After that, you send a transport vehicle with a soldier team to the crash site and kill all aliens either round based or in real-time.

Things have not gone well since the last Alien War... The world resources have been exhausted, and most of the population have been concentrated into the last hope: Mega-Primus, a self-sufficient city. Things are starting look good until a strange portal opened in the sky... And UFOs emerged from it... XCOM is needed again... Hire recruits, buy weapons and equipment, outfit your squads in the vehicles. Engage the UFOs in the Cityscape, then go into Battlescape and engage the individual aliens that managed to escape. Research captured equipment and aliens, and hopefully figure out the cause of all this and end the alien threat to Mega-Primus once and for all...
XCOM:Apocalypse is a real-time / turn-based tactical combat game that features a unique mix of research, resource management, macro tactical combat, and micro tactical combat. At the city screen, you control your vehicles to engage the threats (everything from rival factions to alien UFOs). If a UFO has landed or infiltration has been reported, your vehicles and land/dock at the infestation site and engage in tactical combat with the equipment at hand. Once you've captured aliens and alien equipment, the scientists can research them and perhaps copy them for your use. You'll also need to balance the budget as everything cost money, from agents to equipment... Also keep the various human factions happy or they may attack you...
XCOM:APOC is the "true" sequel to XCOM, designed by Mythos Games. The graphics are reworked, the maps are larger, the world is more complex, and now you get to choose between real-time or turn-based tactical combat. Also, instead of just engaging aliens, you also have to deal with multiple human factions, from a cult that worships alien invaders to gangs, from industrial giants to security forces.

The World is dying. Since the first Alien war, mankind has been on a constant decline. Cities are left in ruin after the wave upon wave attacks of the Sectoid and other races. Pollution ravages the planet, as air and water quality are ruined.
Earth's last hope is the first Megaopolis, Mega-Primus. A completely self sufficent city. If this goes well, humanity will once again rise from their ashes. But as this begins, the aliens return, deadlier then ever. This time, using warp gates to infiltrate the city. --
You return as the commander of the X-Com Mega-Primus Chapter. Command the city's army of planes, cars, hovercraft, and ground troops to defend Earth's last hope from the alien scourge.
Get ready, Humanity's last stand is at your feet.
