Marvel's cast of mutants takes center stage and shows the rest of the comic world how to make the jump to consoles in this stellar RPG/action game.

In summary, I would like to make a 3 point statement. Psylocke was only unlocked far too late in the game. I was dying to play as her, and I was forced to wait until about 4 chapters away from the end. I was not pleased about that very much. Point 2, Gambit is awesome. He cannot, and will not be defeated. Lastly, as Point 3, I demand a sequel. You hear me Activision, I must have it. There are so many possible story lines and fresh villains to use. I would easily pay upwards of two-hundred dollars for a sequel. So now the ball is in your court Activision -- don’t let me (us) down.

Let’s face it; good superhero games are very few and far between. With the exception of City of Heroes (NCSoft’s incredibly addicting PC MMO), there hasn’t been a decent team-based superhero game in a long time. However, Raven Software and Activision are looking to change all that with the release of X-Men Legends. Legends takes our familiar uncanny buddies and puts them in a top-down Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance-style action RPG. The game features some great RPG elements, customizable characters and excellent multiplayer gameplay. X-Men fans should take note, as Legends is the best game yet to feature their likenesses, as well as one of the best superhero games in a long time.

With over 20 hours of gameplay, and one of the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer experiences I've had, I couldn't recommend Legends more highly to fans and newbies alike.

With surprises galore, I constantly felt myself giggling like an extremely geeky schoolgirl as new characters showed up and storylines unfolded before me. There’s an impressive melding of the different X-universes here, so that someone who has just seen the movies should feel comfortable, but someone who has read every X-Men issue since the ‘60s will be more than content. Almost all of the well-known characters make an appearance, and many of the lesser known allies and foes do as well. With over 20 hours of gameplay, and one of the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer experiences I’ve had, I couldn’t recommend Legends more highly to fans and newbies alike.

I've been playing X-Men games since the earliest PC titles, which had all the gameplay of running into the enemy really hard. While some were immensely fun, like Capcom's arcade contributions, they never gave me the feeling that I was actually reliving a true comic book adventure. Raven has finally given me that feeling, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for X-Men Legends 2.

Never have I encountered a game that so perfectly caters to its rabid fan base as X-Men Legends. From the moment you start to play, it’s apparent how much the developers care about the characters, the background, and the essence of what has made the X-Men the most beloved superhero group in comic history. But more than that, Legends is a game of phenomenally intense action that manages to maintain its momentum through a surprisingly lengthy story – even with over a dozen playable characters to level-up and enjoy. While several technical issues are apparent, it’s amazing how much you’re willing to forgive when a game is as ridiculously fun as this one is.

Other than those trivial issues, this is a great game. X-Men: Legends is a game that anyone can enjoy. Comic book fans will love the attention to detail that has been paid to their long-time mutant heroes. Gamers will love the action, graphics, the RPG elements of customizing their team and the ability to sit down and fight bad guys with your friends. X-Men: Legends is a worthy addition to anyone's game library.

If you're in any way a fan of the franchise, you should run out and buy X-Men Legends right now. There's a lot of content to keep you busy for quite a while, and I can guarantee that you'll find things that will put a smile on your face. If you aren't a fan, it's still worth checking out, especially if you enjoy hack and slash dungeon-crawlers. It's nice to see that everyone's favorite mutants are finally getting a chance to shine. Now, if only we could do something about The Justice League...

Having first appeared in the pages of Marvel comics more than 40 years ago and recently starring in two highly successful movies, dozens of comic spin-offs, and video games on nearly every platform since the 8-bit NES, the X-Men have broken out of the geek-chic mold of the comics universe to become modern pop culture icons. But thanks to their new digital debut in the action/RPG genre with X-Men Legends, you've never seen Xavier's men (and women) quite like this before.

X-Men Legends isn’t perfect, but it comes pretty damn close. A few notable gripes do arise, like the abhorrently sluggish and leisurely loading times and the unimpressive and outdated cinematic sequences that jar with the otherwise slick visual stylings. The camera also hangs at an awkward perspective and occasionally moves too far out to cover all the action, leaving you with a screen of indiscernible mini-mutants. However, such complaints seem petty and entirely forgivable when juxtaposed with the stellar cell-shaded graphics, excellent voice acting (with Patrick Stewart reprising his cinematic role as Professor X), and multiplayer mayhem that make Legends look and feel like the A-list game that it is. Whether you’re a long time X-fan or simply an action/RPG enthusiast, X-Men Legends is an outstanding addition to any gamer’s library.

A young girl named Alison Crestmere has been identified as a mutant. She is being run down on the streets, denying that she is, when suddenly Mystique and The Blob appear to snag here. It would be a hopeless situation but for a crouching form, sarcastic and deadly, who appears to protect her.

X-Men Legends is a great action RPG for X-Men fans and X-Men newbies alike, and should not be overlooked. Its blend of great storytelling, great combat, and attention to environmental detail are enough for anyone to get hooked on. True X-Men fans will appreciate the game’s sticking to the facts and staying true to the comic versions of each individual character. There’s tons of fun to be had in unlocking new mutant attacks and finding the perfect team combinations. If you have 3 friends with you, it is pretty easy to pick up, and both co-op and battle mode are fun. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

If you are an X-Men fan, then you finally have a game worthy of your attention and devotion. The story stays true to the X-Men universe, beginning with the rescue of Magma from the Brotherhood soon after she discovers her powers and soon involving the X-Men in an effort to thwart the latest Brotherhood plot. On a smaller scale, the attention to details from the X-Men universe means that the game does deserve its Legends subtitle. If you’re just a fan of the X-Men movies or are even completely new to the X-Men, there’s still an enjoyable action-RPG here so you should still check the game out if you enjoy games of this type.

While the game does have some flaws that keep it out of the 'instant classic' category, Activison is now two for two in comic-related franchises this generation. Xmen Legends is bar none the best X-men game I’ve ever played, good job Activision. Bring on the sequel!

The X-Men enter a new genre. Raven Software has taken the X-Men from their fighting game norm into the complicated world of role playing games. The result is a surprisingly natural, action-RPG that remains fun to play through during its length.

I have played some really, really bad X-Men games in my life. There really have only been a couple of good X-Men games throughout the entire existence of home consoles and not a single good one this generation. It's been nothing but disappointment for X-fans for the past few years. Playing Activision's latest, X-Men Legends, is a lot like day 41 for Noah -- seeing the first ray of sunshine after a whole lot of darkness and downpour is thrilling. While not perfect, Legends does justice to the X-Men franchise and will almost certainly please fans. It's about damn time.

However, even with the technical snafus that sometimes plague Legends, this is still the best X-Men title ever produced. The Action/RPG elements are nicely integrated within an epic storyline with plenty of intrigue and a huge amount of gameplay that can take 20 hours or more to fully complete. Comic book fans will rejoice at having a title in their collection that finally does a renowned franchise justice.

When it comes to the world of video games, the mutant fighting force known as the X-Men are probably best known for their work in fighting games. More specifically, the X-Men are best known for their work in Capcom's fighting games, which turned the eye-beam-firing Cyclops into a Ryu-like fighter, complete with a dragon punch. While the X-Men have occasionally crept into other genres, the results are usually less than favorable. X-Men Legends, however, packs in a good number of different playable characters and great-looking graphics into an easy, but fairly lengthy adventure. It all combines to form a great action RPG with strong action and a well-told story.

Overall, X-Men Legends is a good game with no major flaws. Although it's certainly not genre busting in any way, it provides Action-RPG fans something better to play than the subpar Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. Anyone who is a fan of either the X-Men or Action-RPGs will find a fun, 15-hour game with X-Men Legends.

Where X-Men Legends 2 shows its franchise roots is in the fact that it genuinely isn't that much of a visual step up from last year's model. It's essentially the same gaming models -- although this time round extra "skins" for your mutants are available from the get-go -- in slightly prettier gaming environments. It's just that with the addition of the Brotherhood to your gaming choices, there's an awful lot more game to play, and a reasonable amount of impetus to actually replay the game, just to see how the different character's powers deal with different challenges.

X-Men: Legends is by far the best X-Men game ever released, it gives fans a closer look into the super-heroes they love. The AI really has some flaws and overall the representation of Legends being an RPG is misleading. Aside from these flaws X-Men: Legends has loads of replayablilty, customization and super awesome cast of X-Men and villains. The action is fast paced, and it's great with friends over. It's not perfect, but there is an abundance to love with in X-Men: Legends.

X-Men Legends, at the very least, is an impressively well-made take on Gauntlet. If you're a fan of superhero comics, it's the best Gauntlet ever. Up until now, the folks at Raven Software had never made anything that wasn't a first-person shooter. Now they've made a pretty fiendishly complex four-player 3D action-RPG -- who'd have thought they had it in them?

Meine Meinung - Wolfgang Fischer Ich bin von X-Men Legends positiv überrascht.

Given a little patience, however, X-Men Legends will reward you with a good storyline and fun gameplay. Numerous collectables and hidden items lend a lot of replay potential, which you’ll also derive from focusing on the different mutant abilities available from the different X-Men. Though some issues do exist, they are minor, especially to the die-hard X-Men fans who long to have mutant powers of their own. Good ones, I mean.

However, in X-Men Legends you will always be in control of four mutants at the same time. At the beginning of each level, you select the four mutants to take on the mission, controlling one active mutant while a slightly customizable A.I. controls the others. You can switch between the four by pushing different directions on the D-pad, so if you’re unhappy with the way the computer is handling Cyclops, you can hop into the driver’s seat and zap things yourself. This comes up pretty often, too, because the A.I. isn't very good. Computer-controlled mutants end up dead more often than not.

Growing up with mutant powers is hard, especially when they’re something of an uncontrollable nuisance. I should know – I’ve had to deal with them my whole life.

And, obviously, there's the coup de grace: there's four-player multiplayer, with each player taking control of a separate superhero. You can play through the entire story like this, and the combat's deep enough to make Legends an X-Men must-have for this aspect alone. Fans will love it.

Easily summarized, X-Men Legends is a decent top-down action game encased in an excellent RPG with more than enough super powers to send fans racing to the retail bins. If Raven Soft had paid as much attention to the details and gameplay as they did the role-playing elements, this would have been a tsunami to the genre; as-is, however, it’s still the best X-Men game I’ve played since Clone Wars on Genesis.

Once I had spent a further five and twenty minutes making my way through much of the material’s opening, I found nothing more than a dreary imitation of such advancers of the medium as Kingdom Hearts and its kin. An X-Men film license masquerading itself as simply a broad sterilisation and amalgamation of all that is average and tawdry in the genre. In finding this, I proceeded to construct a parody, rather wittingly basing it on a poem which bears similar nomenclature to the company of its production, though it does little justice to the genius of the original work.

Continuously beating up the same generic thugs becomes tiresome, and the stage designs are monotonous. Too many times we found ourselves going in circles, asking, "haven't we been here before?" Since the camera is pulled back, there's not much eye candy to enjoy. Also, the save game points are spaced far apart, so dying forces you to revert to your last load and replay a large chunk of the stage - not cool. X-Men Legends does contain some old-school charm, but I'd hardly call it addictive. Casuals fans will tire of it quickly, but bump up the grade by one letter if you're a die-hard.
