Alien Hominid far surpassed my expectations, although, if I'm honest, I didn't know what to expect. I thought that maybe the world had moved away from 2D fast paced retro action but after only five minutes of playing, I could see that the world of gaming just doesn't have enough of it. It's a shame that Alien Hominid ends - that's my only gripe with the whole game. It ends. But then, you can play through it again and again with friends, turning up the difficulty a notch each time. You can also beat your scores again and again too and who wouldn't want to play through this a few more times, if not only to take notice of the fantastic surroundings? Alien Hominid is the most addictive game I've played in ages and the tongue in cheek gameplay makes this work of art a must have. Everyone should be able to appreciate the amount of effort and care locked up inside; this game just goes to show that 2D really can sometimes be better than 3D. Just buy it.

If you love Viewtiful Joe you will love this. If you are getting bored while developers continue to churn on random generic FPS’s week after week you will love this. If you grew up on games like Contra, Metal Slug or Turtles in Time you will love this. Simply put, if you love games, you will love this! Alien Hominid is pure absolute undiluted fun! It deserves to be one of the top selling games of 2005 (although sadly we all know it wont!) Oh so highly recommended to gamers of any age! Buy It!

Alien Hominid is certainly an ode to days past, providing a challenge to gamers who still enjoy the run and gun action of old, though the degree of difficulty makes the game somewhat inaccessible to those looking for a quick blast. The game's visual design is amazing, with a level of imagination rarely seen in these days of normal mapped generic armoured muscle men (yes, that's you Epic). If you're feeling somewhat unsatisfied by the games of today, pick up Alien Hominid, though people who aren't die hard shooter fans may be better serviced by taking a quick look at the Flash version of the game seen on Newgrounds.

It's a shame. With a wonderful visual style and (on the surface) an accessible genre, this is the sort of game you want to give to a friend who wants a quick blast... except, they'd never have any fun with it whatsoever. The design decisions are aimed at those people who have Metal Slug tattooed across their brow and demand a phenomenally brutal challenge for their money, as that's the only thing which their honed reflexes can feed off. This is very much for the hardcore. And, as the hardcore eventually does when it takes over any genre, it ruins the game for anyone but the hardcore. Leave it to them.

Hominid has an abundance of style, spread thick over a fairly brief game. This is cute, blood-thirsty and very old-skool; exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to buy the T-shirt and plush Hominid dolls. It's only a matter of time...
