Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu is a pretty good beat-em-up. The fighting engine is solid; there is a decent amount of moves, various playable characters, good visuals and solid audio. That said, the gameplay can get repetitive as you progress and the game isn’t all that long. The game is good but you may be better off with a rental.

Holy budget brilliance Batman! At only $49.95, Batman: The Rise of Sin Tzu is a great game for one or two players, and represents an excellent cheap investment. Unlike many economy priced games, it is obvious that a great deal of love and care went into the making of this Batman title, and it despite a few niggling shortcomings, does much to redeem the franchise game-wise.

The simplicity of the gameplay in Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu is one of its biggest strengths and one of its biggest weaknesses. If constantly slugging it out with common street toughs for a few hours doesn't sound appealing, this probably isn't the game for you. But if you do enjoy straightforward, no-nonsense action, Rise of Sin Tzu delivers it in an appealing package and is one of the best 3D beat-'em-up action games you'll find.

This is by no means a perfect game, nor would I call it a great game, but it is certainly a solid game. The game is enjoyable enough for you to pick up and play, as well as replay. The two player mode is good, although having four players would’ve been better. The graphics and sound are excellent, and really reflect the effort that went into this title. You will probably come back to this game for the extra features that you can unlock, as there are a bunch of them. The challenge mode also aids in extending the life and adding more fun to this title. The main story mode itself isn’t enough alone to keep you interested, and it may even bore you, but when you’re playing with a buddy, and the action is fast and frenzied, you’ll be having a blast with this game. This game would’ve been a lot better had it been released around ten years ago. It’s still a good game, but it feels like an old school game trapped in a next-gen game’s body.

Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu did a lot of things right; it is a visually stunning game that truly captures the feeling of the show. Unfortunately, the gameplay quickly grows tiring and stale. For hardcore fans of the Batman universe, this game is a worth looking into. It definitely captures the feeling of the show and it provides a new Batman story for fans to enjoy. For the casual gamer, the few unlockables aren’t enough to warrant another run though the repetitive gameplay. Rise of Sin Tzu should be in the collection of every Batman fan, but should be left as a rainy day rental for everyone else.

Overall, this is an excellent purchase for fans of the character or the animated series. It is evident that some serious work was put into this disk and I appreciate that. Good game, Bats.

Flawless animation, solid voice acting and a top quality cinematic experience makes this game a marvel to look at. On the flip side, a linear story line removes the intrigue that the animation series has captured and pulled its audience in with. The creators of Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu has done their best to recreate a beloved series however is this enough for non fans to perhaps purchase? The bottom line is; Ubisoft has done its homework to honor the look, sound and feel of a game worthy of the Batman name and on that front the game succeeds.

All in all, the game is solid, but never really ground-breaking. Some drab levels, dumb enemy AI, and a decent combat system come together to make a game that can be fun at times, but is actually a bit dull many other times. Two-player co-op play is actually fun for a while though - it seems that going at it with a friend, despite the game's flaws, is a good way to waste some time. It's not too impressive and it shouldn't be at the top of anyone's must-have list, but the game could make for a great rental on a lazy weekend. Check it out if you and your buddy are Batman fans looking for a few hours of fun.

This is one of the few games I've played where the parts are greater than the whole. I really wanted to love this game. The artwork and animation completely blow me away. I just had to see Sin Tzu in motion. Every time I saw cans swirling in the background or the smoke reacting to Batman's movements I got giddy. It's that pretty. Sound effects are equally and I wouldn't mind having the musical score on CD. The aural and visual presentation is what sucked me into the game and convinced me not to just quit in disgust.

However, it’s obvious that this isn’t shovelware. Comic legend Jim Lee actually created a brand new villain exclusively for the game, Sin Tzu; and the graphics nicely emulate the look and feel of the popular Batman shows. It’s too bad none of this care and effort went into the actual combat engine, which is a simplistic throwback to 8-bit brawlers like Double Dragon, minus the old-school charm. Seriously, other than buying new moves and a cool warped screen effect, this game just doesn’t evolve past the old two-button shuffle. All you do is run down streets, pummel criminals, and then move on. I’m pretty damn sure the Xbox (and Ubisoft) is capable of more than this.

Gamestyle
Gamestyle admits that we did have some fun playing the game, but these moments were few and far between, meaning Rise of Sin Tzu would only really appeal to the hardcore Batman fans (and, even then, it's is only worth renting). Here's hoping that some day the Dark Knight is given a game that really shows off his potential.

Rise of Sin Tzu gets credit for introducing an ethnic baddie into Batman's rogues' gallery, and it's competently programmed, but it's one of those tie-ins you quickly realize is a "product" as opposed to a game. It's certainly not as bad as Dark Tomorrow, but it's certainly not good, either.

The Video Game Critic
The graphics mimic the style of the cartoon series, but tend to be dark and bland. Rise of Sin Tzu is pretty dull in the early going, but while I expected it to become more interesting as I progressed, that never happened. I suspect even Batman fans will find finishing Rise of Sin Tzu more work than fun.
