Battlestar Galactica is one-third of the hardcore old school nerd trinity. First there was Star Trek, Then along came Star Wars, and then Starbuck and crew came along shortly afterwards (Firefly doesn't count yet, give it a few years). In fact, Battlestar Galactica came along so soon after Star Wars that George Lucas sued the creators. He lost, and the galaxy was at peace. At least until budget constraints made it too expensive to keep producing the well rated show.
Next Level Gaming (Dec 11, 2003)
Sorry, but the remake of the classic original just doesn't do it for me. Just like the Star Wars prequels didn't do it for fans either. But thankfully, this game is not bad at all. It could be because I enjoyed the Wing Commander and Starlancer games in my youth. This does a good job of bringing the TV show to life. And it comes with a $10 coupon for the original collectors set DVD. I was all about that.

Battlestar Galactica coats a thumb-blistering shooter with an old-school, sci-fi license. There’s nothing particularly special here for classic TV fans, but classic shooter fans will find a battle worth fighting.
If you enjoyed yesteryear hits such as Wing Commander, Freespace, or even Star Lancer, and would like to engage in epic battles fending off the Cylon hordes in charismatic Viper fighter craft, then Battlestar Galactica should give you just the cosmic kick you've been looking for.

Game Chronicles (Jan 29, 2004)
Fans of the series might find there isn’t enough authentic Battlestar Galactica content to warrant the license, and it’s true, you could strip away the title and the game would play out just the same. License or not, there is still enough quality gameplay here to make this a definite rental and a possible purchase if you are really hard up for a difficult space shooter.
Game Captain (Jan 06, 2004)
IGN (Nov 20, 2003)
Battlestar Galactica is a decent space shooter that will probably disappoint hardcore fans of the show who would want more of the magic that made the show so endearing. You spend long stretches battling in deep space with a few cutscenes to explain the action, which is the opposite of the original television show. The space-shooter sub-genre has lost some steam lately with many gamers expecting more variety now that such powerful consoles are available. BSG is a throwback, basic space-shooter right inline with a game like Starlancer and nails what it set out do. The intent of this licensed product just wasn't very inspired. You get to fly Colonial vipers after all these years, they come with a few surprises and that's about it. The developers did a good job of adding some appealing tricks to fairly thin sci-fi license but this is game that probably won't be worth much more than just a quick rental.

GameSpot (Dec 02, 2003)
Battlestar Galactica is certainly an appreciable effort to do something more with its license than just offer another slapdash, underproduced game without any redeeming qualities beyond said license. Warthog has made a strong attempt to make the game's action accessible to both casual fans of the show and fans of the space combat genre. Sadly, the attempt was not entirely successful. The combination of the irritatingly tough mission structuring along with the relative simplicity of the combat ultimately makes Battlestar Galactica a bit too basic of an experience for any seasoned space combat fan, and it's too difficult of an experience for casual fans that are just looking for a simple trip down memory lane.
Game Over Online (Feb 11, 2004)
But a good quality product does not need external references to succeed. For the most part, Battlestar Galactica is testament to that. The audio effects are disappointing but everything else is up to par. Unfortunately, it fails to become really meaningful and memorable, thus making it a good space action title but not one that will be talked about years later.
GameZone (Dec 09, 2003)
The cut scenes are nice and add to the feel and nostalgia of the game. There is some good storytelling and voice acting in the opener. Aside from that, the scenes are minimal and sparse. They don't offer much after a while. It's fun to play, though there are a lot of annoyances that make it hard to come back for more. The lack of a "on the fly" save is a crippler. The frustration factor is off the charts. Still, it's fun to fly in a Colonial Viper and defend the human race. I've waited for years to do this. Now, if I could just get the jacket from the Starlog magazine!!
TeamXbox (Dec 02, 2003)
Battlestar Galactica certainly does its TV show creator proud, but when looking at the total package the game is simply an above average space shooter. The sketchy mission objectives and the difficulty level will certainly turn off everyone but true diehard Battlestar Galactica fans. The lack of save points is a major oversight that causes far more frustration than needed and with the repetitiveness of a few levels, often the aggravation doesn’t seem worth it. As a space shooter Battlestar Galactica is certainly the best one on the Xbox, but as a game overall it doesn’t do anything that hasn’t been accomplished before. With no multiplayer options whatsoever there isn’t much replay value aside from a few nice unlockables. Fans of the classic TV show will definitely want to own Battlestar Galactica, but most gamers will want to rent this one before blasting off into outer space.

Game Revolution (Dec, 2003)
While it may not be as bad, it's just not that great either. Battlestar Galactica is a solid attempt that unfortunately does nothing new or unique and suffers from some strange gameplay quirks. Fans of the show may do well to check it out and will definitely have fun tooling around the universe in a Viper, but other gamers will get frustrated easily by the control issues. At least the game doesn't have any sexy Cylons trying to seduce you.
I did not like to play this game. It was not worth all of the pain. You should leave it on the shelf. There are better ways to spend your wealth.
