Ferrago Ltd. (play.tm)
Essentially, you'll want to think about what kind of racers appeal to you before picking this up - if you like the sound of a slower-paced Crazy Taxi-style game, with the addition of an RPG like upgradability and limited trading, then you will like this. It's a commendable effort from Eutechnyx, and contains much quality.

Worth Playing
All in all, Big Mutha Truckers is an entertaining ride for the first couple hours, but after you realize that you’ll be doing the same thing for the duration of the game you’ll quickly grow tired of its simplistic formula. The economy-based gameplay system instills a certain innovation into the game that is rarely seen in arcade-style trucking games but the gameplay is basically hit and miss, so to speak. So keep on truckin’, but steer clear of high expectations or you might end up disappointed.

Big Mutha Trucker is a good game. I always take into consideration that the game is extremely cheap when it is released [$20]. It really is worth the $20 because of the redneck humor as well as the cool little details like biker dudes trying to steal your cargo. There is nothing like watching a bicker punk fly off the back of your rig. The graphics are so-so but they seem to fit this game perfectly. It can also be very fun to play and you will get some good laughs out of the characters in the game.

Game Chronicles
Big Mutha Truckers is a fun little racing game that manages to incorporate some interesting economic elements to get you thinking. Buying low, selling high, upgrading your rig, and beating your family is what it’s all about and the thrill of racing trucks just can’t be beat. Sure, it has all the cultural significance of Smokey and the Bandit and reruns of The Dukes of Hazzard, but it’s just as fun when taken in small doses.

Big Mutha Truckers only manages to fully immerse gamers into the backwoods-redneck trucking lifestyle but fails to make it fun or challenging enough to keep us interested in seeing the game through to the very end. The fact that there’s no multiplayer mode just keeps the focus on a single mode that shows all its cards way too early in the game and giving us not much to look forward to the farther into the game you go. If redneck humor and ramming rigs into stuff sounds like fun, renting this one might just be what the doctor ordered.

IGN
Big Mutha Truckers is an arcade game. It really is fun for a while, but the monotonous gameplay will soon catch up with you. There are only so many times you can bring yourself to traverse the highway from Capital City to Greenback. Although the novelty of driving a big rig soon stretches thin, the overall humor (until it gets recycled) of the game eases you through your sixty day excursion. A little more variety in gameplay and the ability to choose different routes to cities would really have helped the longevity of this title. However, at $20 you can’t really resist the short lived entertainment that the southern stereotyping brings.

The saddest thing about Big Mutha Truckers is that it earnestly tries to be a fun game. The mechanics of the game's economy are actually fairly well put together and do provide a surprisingly deep level of gameplay. Unfortunately, the game's arcade elements aren't done well enough to ever balance with the simulation elements, and the end result is a game that's too wacky to be a sim game and too simulation-based to be an arcade game. If you're looking for an amusing weekend rental, then Big Mutha Truckers might be right up your alley. However, as a full-on purchase, Big Mutha Truckers just doesn't measure up,

Although not the masterpiece of AM2’s 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker, Big Mutha Truckers sets out to give the player an enjoyable truck-driving game, and it accomplishes its purpose. Considering that this is a value title, releasing with a street price in the range of a platinum hit, you get a quality game for the money. It’s a niche title that will appeal more to those that appreciate driving simulations. The moneymaking aspect of the game gives it additional flavor, but it’s not going to draw any new acolytes. Driving game enthusiasts should give it a rental to see if it’s up their alley.

Big Mutha Truckers is limited in scope and repetitive in nature, but it's inarguably fun for a while, and it's really hard to get too cranky about a $20 game (although some would argue, and not without merit, that a game's MSRP shouldn't be a factor in its critical evaluation). The surprising depth of the campaign mode, and the simple pleasures of smashing into oncoming traffic, helps negate the weak audiovisuals and onslaught of "yee-haw!" hee-haws.
