Cel Damage — Enter a universe where the 'toons rule the road. This frantic vehicular combat title reaches into the violent and wacky world of cartoon physics to present vehicular combat with a fun new twist. Players will take command of any of the six main characters, each with their own unique machine of cartoon destruction, and enter battle in over 10 levels based on four different cartoon themes. 36 different weapon power-ups will make sure the action never gets stale, while "guest stars" and their unlockable cars raise the number of playable characters to 10.

Conforming perfectly to the wacky physics of Saturday morning cartoons, Cel Damage's vehicles can be spun, rotated, bent and stretched. They can instantly warp from one part of a spaceport to another, bounce off oversized cobwebs and roar straight up hollowed-out trees.
Picking up firepower is as easy as driving into one of the many weapons icons that dot the landscapes. Oversized bats, axes and chainsaws are ideal for inflicting short-range damage. You can also freeze or set fire to rivals, harpoon them from a distance, broadside them with cannons or plant a short-fused firecracker on them. Among the coolest weapons are black holes. Drop one discreetly on the ground and if a rival drives across it, they'll vanish as if into a, well, black hole.
Cel Damage is an absolute hoot when shared with your mates.

Beat your cartoon competitors to the punch.
Cartoon fans (like, who isn't?) and battle buffs have a new way to spend their Saturday mornings.
The most notable thing about Cel Damage is its trendy, cel-shaded look. Cel shading makes 3D models look like the flat-shaded artwork of cels (single frames) of classic animated TV shows and movies. Colors and shading are simplified to make models look like they've been hand-inked. In video games, cel shading first appeared in Sega's critically acclaimed Jet Grind Radio for the Dreamcast.
Although developer Pseudo Interactive created all-new characters, cars and settings, all are inspired by the history of animation. The black-and-white Fowl Mouth is an obvious tip o' the derby to '30s one-reelers, husky-throated Dominque Trix was inspired by Tex Avery's hard-edged '40s cartoons and bewhiskered bulldozer-operator B.T. Bruno bears more than a passing resemblance to the gentler '60s offerings of Hanna-Barbera. For fans of the more modern, anime-inspired riot grrl Violet man-handles a tank with a panache that would make Lara Croft blush. Our main grump is the absence of such familiar cartoon species as bears, cats, mice and bunnies.

In the central mode, Smack Attack, your aim to be the first to rack up 500 smack points. Points are awarded for damage as well as outright "kills." In true cartoon fashion, the dead instantly rematerialize, none the worse for wear.
The developers jacked up the frenzy factor by keeping the arenas small. As you progress, you'll be able to open the two other modes, Battle Race and Flag Rally, and unlock a boss character in each environment.
In Battle Race, you race repeatedly race through gates on a short course. Flag Rally is a version of capture-the-flag. All three modes strongly emphasize combat skills instead of speed, handling and other typical race-game virtues.
The clever chaps at Pseudo Interactive obviously logged lots of tube time as kids. Accompanying each battle is a constant cacophony of smart-aleck chatter. However, since the characters are initially unfamiliar, it's not always clear who is talking. Some of the cheeky comments doubtless helped garner Cel Damage a "T" (for Teen) rating from the independent Entertainment Software Ratings Board. Games rated "T" are suitable for players 13 and older.
Progress is saved to a Nintendo GameCube Memory Card 59 (sold separately). Saving a game requires two memory blocks.

Under the EA GAMES’ brand, Electronic Arts and Pseudo Interactive announce the release of Cel Damage’ for the Nintendo GameCube’ video game system from Nintendo®. EA previously, in fall 2001, released Cel Damage for the Xbox’ video game system from Microsoft®.
Cel Damage uses cel animation technology that allows the game to look and feel like a unique hand-painted cartoon universe. The constant wacky action takes place in 12 interactive levels spread over four themed worlds of a universe controlled by ‘toon characters ranging in style from Fowl Mouth, modeled on an old black and white cartoon duck from the ‘30s, to an anime-style manga girl named Violet and a rude, crude, gross-out ‘toon named Sinder. Cel Damage initially offers six unique ‘toon characters and challenges the player to unlock four additional characters for a total of 10. Adding to the overall game experience, each of the characters owns a unique vehicle as well as specialized weapon.
The game offers three different modes of gameplay - Smack Attack, Flag Rally and Gate Relay.
