En somme, qu'il s'agisse de ses graphismes, de l'intensité de son gameplay ou encore de toute l'atmosphère qui tourne autour de ce titre, F1 2002 signe une performance tout bonnement hallucinante. Sa réalisation fait honneur aux capacité de la Xbox pour nous offrir au final une nouvelle édition qui une fois encore pourrait bien s'imposer comme référence du genre.

If you want a good physics model, good force feedback support, ability to play via Internet and have a system with a CPU under 1GHz then F1 2002 is one of the better choices you could make next time you're at the store. I can recommend this game to anyone interested in racing at all - you don't have to be an F1 maniac to enjoy this game.

Vom Spielumfang bietet F1 2002 mehr, als man hätte erwarten können. Auch die zwei vollkommen unterschiedlichen Fahrmodelle sind gut umgesetzt und machen neben dem fantastischen Boxenstopp das Spiel sowohl für Anfänger als auch Profis interessant. Doch mit ein wenig mehr Feintuning wäre wesentlich mehr möglich gewesen - vor allem die Grafikruckler und die Ungereimtheiten im Bereich der Fahrzeugschäden machen eine höhere Wertung zunichte - genauso wie der Zwang, wesentliche Spielmodi erst freispielen zu müssen. Trotzdem: Noch nie hat eine F1-Simulation aus dem Hause EA so viel Spaß gemacht wie dieses Jahr. Und andererseits müssen die nachfolgenden Mitbewerber erst einmal an diese Leistung heran kommen.

Ultimately, what it all boils down to is this: in playing F1 2002, you can simulate F1 to the nth degree, and the high standards of presentation and authenticity are important gimmicks, but as anybody in F1 will tell you, you can't give the opposition anything. In Geoff Crammond and his team, EA's competition is the proverbial Michael Schumacher of the circuit, and in the end, Michael doesn't make mistakes, and F1 2002 makes plenty.

Has EA simply repackaged and rebranded its US launch Xbox F1 2001 game in a bid to palm it off as an all-new experience? Maybe. Certainly, the PS2 and Xbox versions of F1 2002 are not the same game. Disappointment aside, F1 2002 is an authentic racing simulation that's big on realism and detail, but which simply isn't that much fun to play. There are far better driving games out there. Very average.
