In addition to all the gameplay features, FIFA Soccer 2005 is straight-up fun to play. It draws you in to the action on the pitch so much that it's hard to put the game down. The Career mode sets FIFA Soccer 2005 apart from most portable sports games. Although some games let you play a full season, FIFA Soccer 2005 gives you five seasons to manage your favorite club. Not the most stat-heavy of games, FIFA Soccer 2005 sets objectives for you to complete each season in your club league. For example, every time you win a match, you earn prestige points. Once you earn 100 points, your manager gets an upgrade in his coaching effectiveness. You earn prestige points even if you simulate games, assuming you win those games. If you win your league, you'll get an invite to a premiere event featuring the world's best soccer clubs. If you're not up for a long campaign, either play a quick Friendly against another club or compete in a Challenge. The Challenge menu displays Comeback Challenges or Rout Challenges based on historic games. As the names imply, you need to make up a deficit to win, not tie, the match in Comeback and defeat a team by a set number of goals in Rout. Once you complete the set number of challenges, a Custom Challenge feature unlocks for you to set up a scenario. Up to four people can play via Game Boy Advance Game Link Cables. Along with four skill levels for both the players and the goal keeper, options let you set the game time (up to 20 minute matches), extra time, the condition of the pitch and the variance of wind. You also get to play the game through the eyes of one of three camera angles. Bottom Line Loaded with star international players, FIFA Soccer 2005 shows that big things can come in small Game Paks.
