Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter

Mace Griffin is a good first-person shooter. The game has great details in the graphics and a very good overall sound. The storyline may be a reworking of a stock plot, but somehow feels fresh against this background. The action is also good. There is a standard array of targets ... er bad guys, but they don’t exactly line up to be shot. If you are in the mood for a very good FPS, take a shot at this. You won’t be disappointed.

Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter ist ein knüppelharter Action-Kracher, der durch seine Flugsequenzen regelmäßig für Abwechslung sorgt. Nicht ganz gelungen sind das oft eintönige Leveldesign und der etwas zu hohe Schwierigkeitsgrad. Es ist einfach frustrierend, wenn man selber von allen Seiten hart bearbeitet wird und aufgrund der etwas zu sensiblen Steuerung nicht so reagieren kann, wie man sich das gerne wünscht. Dass die Technik des Spiels im Jahre 2003 keinen mehr vom Hocker haut, ist zudem klar. Hätten die Entwickler hinsichtlich dieser beiden Kritikpunkte etwas bessere Arbeit geliefert, hätte der Einzelspielermodus des Spiels höhere Wertungen bekommen, das Potenzial dazu hätte er gehabt. Total unverständlich ist ferner der fehlende Multiplayer, durch den die Langzeitmotivation einen herben Dämpfer bekommt.

It has a wide array of weapons to use, but it won't keep bringing you back to play. If you want to get this game, rent it and beat it then since you will regret buying it later. It is beatable in about 2 days if you try. Only paying 6 bucks to play it for a week is too much. Maybe next time, if there even is a Mace Griffin 2, they will add the much needed features MG: BH craves. I highly doubt that we will see a sequel though.

Despite being a rough composite of a half dozen other first-person shooters without much personality of its own, Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter is still pretty good. The action can be fast-paced and engaging, and if you can forgive the game's derivative nature, there's an entertaining experience to be had here.

Overall the game isn’t that bad, and has enough to reach out to more then just the hard core FPS fan. Both the XBOX and PS2 versions run smoothly, with the XBOX having slightly better graphics and a lack of slowdown. Both versions have loading time problems. Despite these issues, as well as the complete lack of originality, the game is actually fun at times and does enough to warrant attention. If the flying sequences had been incorporated a lot better, and some more time spent on coming up with a plot, the game would have been one of the better games on these systems, as it is it will get lost in a sea of FPS that have besieged the market.

On était en droit d'attendre un peu plus de ce Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter qui finalement se révèle être un jeu sympathique sans plus. Il aurait sans doute fallu que les phases spatiales soient un peu plus développées et que le jeu dispose d'un mode multijoueur pour réellement s'affirmer.

Mace Griffin had a lot of promise. But none of those promises, aside from some really nice looking guns and lots of bloodshed, panned out. Going from ground combat to space combat in a seamless transition is a cool idea, but because of some limited creative design and occasionally lackluster execution, Mace's one advantage over other FPS' has gone to waste. Mace is fun at times (especially in the first few hours before the minor annoyances begin stacking up) and does a nice job of mixing up run and gun and sniper action, but the AI is buggy and sometimes the game absolutely drags.

As I said at the outset, Mace Griffin isn't the greatest game ever made, but it certainly isn't the worst. I personally had a very good time with it, and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, solid singleplayer FPS fix.

If you're an avid FPS gamer, then Mace Griffin will entertain you, but nothing more. The lack of anything new to the genre just means it's more of the same. It's not a game that you tell your friends about, but it's not trash either. By now, the game should be in the bargain bin, and at that price it should help pass the time until Halo 2.

In the end, Mace lacks that intangible sense of excitement and wonder that makes gamers stoked to play. If you?re a big Red Faction fan and you love Rambo-ing through combat games, you might extract a few thrills from Mace?s long levels, but for most, the Xbox has far better turf to conquer.

Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter is a very satisfying single-player FPS, coated with a fat-free topping of space combat. The lack of secrets and multiplayer modes also means an utter lack of replay value, but I felt nothing but satisfaction at the rousing conclusion.

Considering the other Xbox FPS options out there in RTCW, Unreal Championship and even the recent Brute Force, and considering PS2 games like No One Lives Forever and Red Faction II, this seemingly ambitious title is tough to recommend beyond a rental. We were hoping for Grand Theft Galaxies, but we wound up with Doom In Space.

If you’re absolutely insane over games that combine first person action with a lot of gunning and grenading, then you would probably do well to go out and buy Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter. It’s at a low price point (19.99 at the time of this writing) and is probably well worth it to you. For the rest of us, we can probably skip out on this game and still live with ourselves. It’s not a bad game, as I said, but for a game that was so often delayed, one has to wonder why they didn’t take any of that time to make Mace something special.
