GamesRadar (Oct 11, 2007)
It may be the last game anyone will ever play on the original Xbox, and it does the Madden name justice with its smooth play, wide range of features old and new, ridiculously in-depth franchise options, and online games. If there was ever a game to close out a console with style, Madden 08 is the one.
Gamer 2.0 (Aug 24, 2007)
Madden NFL 08 was made with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in mind, so it's no surprise if you end up finding these versions of Madden to be lackluster. EA Sports did what they could, but it's all about the future now. Rest assured, Madden is probably a good way to finally retire your GameCube and Xbox.
IGN (Aug 14, 2007)
Madden NFL 08 is one of those titles that you feel had good intentions, but just didn't fully fulfill all of them the way it needed to. While the concept behind making the game more accessible to casual gamers is a laudable one, the actual implementation of the casual elements over the standard gameplay elements is somewhat lacking. The weapon system, which is obviously carried over from the newer consoles, doesn't deliver the kind of experience that you'd hope it would, and the adjustments to the older gameplay doesn't do enough to radically improve the title. While Madden 08 is still an enjoyable title, it isn't nearly as impressive as last year's game.
GameSpot (Aug 20, 2007)
Again, it's no surprise that the older consoles would get something of the shaft when it came to development priority on this year's Madden. And save for holdover issues and a few missing features, this is still a good football game through and through. The new control additions are certainly worthwhile (even if the weapons system mostly isn't), and fantasy challenge is a unique and enjoyable new way to build and play a team of your own design. You're certainly served best by picking up one of the versions of Madden released for the current console hardware, but if that's not an option, then this game isn't a bad way to go.
