Otogi is an awesome package. It's got great art, stunning visuals, immersive sound, responsive controls, RPG elements, great level and boss design, a challenging difficulty level, and slick, slick style to top it all off. This is the best action game the Xbox has seen in months - or perhaps any console, for that matter.

If there's anything that the Xbox lacks, it has to be support from Japanese developers. The line-up is still weaker than that of rival consoles, but Sega's move to localize this one is a step in the right direction. Filled with uniquely Japanese artwork (wait till you see the menu), music and narrative themes, the game should please those who usually crave androgynous protagonists, obscenely large robots or saucer-eyed ninjas. Remarkable presentation aside, the solid action and deep RPG elements make Otogi: Myth of Demons one of the best action titles on the Xbox to date.

It's certainly true that without its remarkable production values, Otogi: Myth of Demons would be much less of a game. The action is quite well done and has a unique kind of feel to it, but alone it wouldn't have been enough to distinguish Otogi from many other games. Yet the remarkable production values are here--Otogi stacks up favorably against all the best-looking, best-sounding Xbox games yet. But unlike some of those and most other games, something about how the graphics and sound all fit together with the action makes this the sort of experience that's really enthralling, and at the same time, Otogi is filled with plenty of genuinely challenging and exciting sequences. As such, Xbox owners would be fortunate to add this game to their collections, or at least to play it.

Otogi is 100% action. There's very little to explore and no inventive puzzles to solve. Though a few stages feature protection missions, most of Otogi consists of seek and destroy quests. That's not a bad thing when seeking and destroying is this much fun.

Un beat'em all artistique.

Otogi is a unique, beautiful game which combines fast hack n’ slash gameplay in a mystical mythology wraping. The game itself if not for it looks would just be average, but considering the extra effect they put into Otogi to make it special gives it what it needs to be a great addition to the Xbox console. I would suggest renting this game first to see if the “Zen” like slasher is your cup of tea. If you’re deeply into Japaneese culture, you need Otogi in your collection. Check it out!

Perhaps Otogi's tale of redemption is twofold: the game tells the story of Raikoh's atonement for his sins, while its U.S. release is atonement for Shinobi. Shinobi was hardly a bad game, but Otogi represents a similar experience in a more accessible and technically polished form. Even with its niggling control issues, Otogi is a beautiful and entertaining action romp. Here's hoping we get the sequel!

Segan Otogi on hikevä vastus. Vihollisia puskee kimppuun kaikkialta, efektit ovat viimeisen päälle viriteltyjä ja täyttävät parhaimmillaan koko näkökentän. Messevää meininkiä ja tuhtia toimintaa riittää.

The Next Level
Despite the gameplay losing its taste rather fast, Otogi has a lot going for it for those who love a challenge and need a graphical showcase for their Xbox (as if the other titles weren’t enough). The stunning visuals make this a feast for anyone playing or watching, and the challenge is high enough that it definitely warrants more than a rental. For a first installment of an ongoing series - the second Otogi has already been announced - it does a very good job of establishing the foundation of the franchise and putting it on a focused path. Let’s just hope that the sequel fixes up some of the shortcomings of the first game.

Otogi's somewhat repetitive action is not entirely compelling, but this one is really all about style and looking cool. It might not suck you in, but it should satiate your hunger for both fast-paced action and eye candy. And that's not a bad breakfast at all.

Gamesdog
Due to the lack of any real storyline and 29 levels this game does suffer from repetitive action with no focus. That said if you are looking for that in a game this Couching tiger, Hidden Dragon-styled action should happily give you your samurai fix.

GamePro
As a high-octane slay-a-thon, Otogi knows what it is and what it?s supposed to do, and as long as you don?t mind leaving your brain at the door, you?ll probably dig it. Just be prepared to get bored after the first couple of hours.

The Video Game Critic
The abysmal gameplay is matched by an equally inept menu system. At the conclusion of each stage, the game mentions something about "saving map data", but don't be fooled - it's NOT saving your game! To really save, you must take a detour to the options menu - another example of the game's pitiful design. You can purchase weapons and items between stages, be warned that some weapons for sale may be weaker that your current one! The one thing cool about this game is the chain reactions that occur when you smash boxes. No question about it - Otogi should have never seen the light of day.
