Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Everyone loves Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The overwhelming majority of those who played it remember its story, its look, and its platforming as some of the finest examples of recent video game design. Now it’s sequel time and we all wonder if this new entry measures up. As a whole, Warrior Within does an incredible job of differentiating itself while still maintaining the series’ high level of quality.

Der Wunsch war den Entwicklern von Ubisoft Befehl, denn mit „Prince of Persia: Warrior Within“ steht ein neues Abenteuer des eleganten Prinzen in den Regalen. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass sich das Warten gelohnt hat.

A great title for platform adventure fans and an interesting new direction. Platform games have evolved and at the moment this is the game leading them. I'd like to see some competition now to bring this almost dead genre back alive, Blinx hasn't provided maybe Rareware will. Watch your back Prince of Persia you're only the best because the race isn't big.

Warrior Within is a great game. Unfortunately, as the follow-up to one of the best adventure games since the advent of three dimensional gaming, only being ‘great’ is still somewhat of a disappointment. While some would have you believe that the new thematic direction is franchise-killing blasphemy and the root of the game’s downfall, the decision to take the franchise to a darker place was not a bad idea – UbiSoft simply took it a tad far and the game has lost connection with series’ roots, as anyone who looks at or plays the title without knowledge of its connection of the venerable series would probably require some convincing to accept that yes, this action game was an entry in the Prince of Persia franchise. While the game features better mechanics in many areas, it fails live up to the sum of its parts as a result of misguided tinkering made to the game balance, most notably a larger emphasis on combat.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is an excellent sequel to a game that caught many by surprise last year. Those who enjoy navigating through beautifully designed levels, complete with clever puzzles and traps, will definitely get their fill of them here. Moreover, the combat has improved greatly, although it's still not the principle strength of the game. However, those who primarily enjoyed last year's The Sands of Time for its original charm and subtle character development may not find quite what they're looking for in this sequel. But even with this caveat, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is easy to recommend for any action adventure fan, and its lengthier campaign should keep players busy for a lot longer this time around.

Donc, oui, Prince of Persia 2 est un excellent jeu, que personnellement je conseille, mais qui risque de dérouter et même de décevoir certains fans du Prince. Si les « Sables » n’avaient jamais vu le jour et que l’« Ame du guerrier » avait marqué son grand retour dans le monde du jeu vidéo, il aurait sûrement eu un impact beaucoup plus grand. Mais arriver après cet illustre grand frère lui causera très certainement du tort. A essayer quand même car il serait dommage de passer à côté et peut être certains vérifieront-ils l’exactitude du célèbre adage : « l’essayer, c’est l’adopter », qui sait ?

C'est avec joie que l'on retrouve le héros le plus agile du moment. Courir sur les murs, se balancer sur tout ce qui bouge, bondir et rebondir est toujours un plaisir immense. Mais quelque part, la claque n'est plus aussi monstrueuse, la surprise fait moins effet. Heureusement pour compenser, Ubi Montréal a su apporter quelques modifications de bon aloi. Il est alors bien triste de constater qu'en contrepartie, d'autres défauts du jeu original persistent encore et toujours. et quoi qu'on en pense, l'attachement au personnage du Prince était pour beaucoup dans le charme du jeu original. Ici, il faut avoir envie d'incarner cette brute épaisse au vocable rustre... De quoi relativiser un peu la qualité de ce qui reste néanmoins une très bonne suite.

Vous recherchez un jeu d’action/aventure dans lequel vous pourrez vous plonger sans relâche, optez pour les secondes aventures du Prince. La galette vaut parfaitement son prix et l’investissement ne sera pas vain. Avec le temps que vous passerez sur ce soft, vous ne pourrez en être que ravis. Un must !

En cherchant à attirer un plus large public avec une atmosphère sombre tendance gothique, Prince of Persia a bradé son âme, au risque de perdre ce qui faisait son identité. Des décapitations sanglantes au ralenti sur des riffs de guitare lourde, on est effectivement bien loin de ce qui faisait le charme du premier en terme d'ambiance. Maintenant, difficile de nier que L'Âme du Guerrier corrige les nombreuses erreurs de jeunesse des Sables du Temps, pour venir peaufiner un gameplay, qui, notamment dans les phases de plates-formes, reste toujours aussi brillant. Une valeur sûre.

In trying to appeal to the mainstream, while holding out the occasional olive branch to their faithful, Ubisoft run the risk of satisfying neither. The distinct style of Prince of Persia has been extracted, almost surgically, but in doing so they have unwittingly exaggerated flaws rather than correcting them.

If you were a fan of the previouws PoP game or want to play a much darker filled with blood and gore game, giving you more freedom then a linear game, then you'll want "Warrior Within"! It's as simple as that!
