As such, that makes our job of explaining what TOCA Race Driver's about that much easier, because most of you'll know the drill by now. You'll know already that the handling's consistently excellent, that the damage modelling is among the best around, that the graphics are about as good as they get on current gen systems, and what a vast beast of a game it is. Just as before, it's a game that covers all bases but never dilutes the experience. It really is an all-encompassing pot pourri of contrasting vehicles and driving disciplines, and is basically brilliant at making the idea of mastering every kind of four wheel driving discipline around seem hugely entertaining. But you knew that already, didn't you?
There's no shortage of modern racers, but most of the current crop seem obsessed with the atittude of tuner culture more than racing itself. ToCA Racer Driver 3 has no truck with that: it's all about the driving experience.
I’m going to start this review by making an excuse; an excuse for the enormous delay. An excuse that isn’t entirely due to my own weakness. We namely received a review copy of DTM Race Driver 3 before it hit the shelves. But destiny decided to bruise this same copy, giving it scratches all over the place. As a result I became a frustrated reviewer, who, after receiving a decent copy, didn’t have the power to meet the deadline. Is the score suffering from this lame excuse? Of course not, but beware as your reading pleasure may vary from time to time, due to my uninspired gibberish from time to time.
The key to the success of the ToCA brand, and what ultimately will set ToCA Race Driver 3 apart from its competitors, is variety. By variety, I’m specifically talking about the breadth of the motorsports experience, including event types, car classes, series, circuits, and more.
About four years ago Japanese publisher SEGA brought PS2 gamers an arcade port of Ferrari F355 Challenge. The title highlighted the Ferrari's singular brilliance, giving gamers a realistic and terrifically challenging port. Codemasters, the long-time racing development and publishing team from Europe specializing in European car simulations, has for years given gamers simulation style games. Critically and commercially, these games have done exemplary in Europe, but in the US their reception is mixed. Some games do well, others, well, meh. TOCA Race Driver 3 is, in a way, Codemasters way of maintaining its racing morals, if you will, while broadening the game to newer levels for the huge US racing market.
Codemasters' TOCA Race Driver series has always been about two things: solid, simulation-based driving, and an insane amount of racing variety. Unlike most other racers out there, TOCA skips the usual methodology of sticking to one main type of racing and overloading the package with a ton of licensed cars. Certainly TOCA does have quite a few licensed vehicles, but they're spread across such a wide assortment of racing disciplines that at times it seems like no two races are ever alike. TOCA Race Driver 3 is the latest game in the series, and it's every bit as good as its predecessors, if not markedly better. The variety of race types has grown significantly, the driving remains a great deal of fun, and the game still presents itself extremely well.

The last TOCA shot itself in the foot instead of putting the pedal to the metal by restricting players with a linear career structure. Luckily for us, Codemasters has rectified the situation in this newest TOCA. The game features 32 tiers of racing, with almost every one containing three different types of racing circuits to choose from.

Solid physics, nice menu design, and serviceable graphics round out the package nicely.
TOCA Race Driver may not be a racing brand that's so easily read on the lips of racing fans as, say, Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo 4, but, damn it, it should be. Over the years, as the series has grown a bit in luxurious options, it's really gotten better and better, and the company continues to stride towards driving realism greatness...even if Micro Machines is still bouncing about somewhere in the back library. The company continues to push ahead with TOCA Race Driver 3, the most impressive entry yet and a game that's more loaded than a double banana split from an ice cream shop.
If you're the type of person that goes for two or three appetizers instead of deciding on an entrée and juggles half-a-dozen girlfriends instead of committing to just one, have I got a racing game for you. Codemasters' ToCA Race Driver 3 lets you jump behind the wheel in an unheard of 35 different racing disciplines. Is it all too much? Is it overkill? While the game isn't without its problems, it does manage to tie together all of these ways to go too fast and deliver a monster of a game for racing fans.
Codemasters' new racing game, "DTM Race Driver 3" (or Toca Race Driver 3) is a fine new racing experience. You have the opportunity to race with a lot of different vehicles, even karts and RC's and the circuits to race on are amazing! There's a lot to be unlocked, which makes the replay value for this game very high. Besides the well known story mode, Codemasters also included a Championship mode that lets you just race which whatever you want!
Equiped with decent graphics, top notch sound and Xbox Live, "DTM Race Driver 3" is again a true new race experience on X-Box.
However, play the game with a steering wheel and pedals and life will be a lot easier.
