So, the online multiplayer adversarial modes are nothing special, but the single player and co-op campaigns offer plenty of fun for the budding international secret agent. If skulking around in the shadows to spy on your sister or discover that hidden treasure trove of unwrapped Christmas presents is your forte, then Splinter Cell: Double Agent will keep you captivated for hours on end.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a great game and the best version is surprisingly on the Xbox. You’ll get a much more familiar Sam Fisher experience with more gadget-centric gameplay, deep story and character development, longer and more complex levels, and an online co-op experience that puts the 360 to shame. Double Agent is fun, exciting, intense, and definitely a great send-off title for the classic Xbox. What it lacks in 360 visuals it more than makes up for in substance and gameplay and that is what ultimately counts.

Considering you can find the current-gen versions of Double Agent for $20 less than the 360 game and they have more content in them, this is hardly a case where if you can't get the next-gen version you shouldn't even bother. In fact, traditionalists may even prefer the Xbox game. (Comparing the Xbox version to the PS2 version, the Xbox is much prettier and the PS2 only features one save slot, making Xbox the winner in that head-to-head.)

Sam Fisher is back with a do-or-die vengeance. Like so many games that have gone "dark" or "hard-edged," Fisher did too. Only he's gone one step further. Splinter Cell's main man lost his daughter, went to jail and now hangs out with a terrorist group. Pretty low. While many gamers have experienced or have heard about the next-generation version, the current gen version of Splinter Cell offers a meatier, gadget-heavy side that falls distinctly in line with Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. If you were worried that the current gen version was just a cheaper, less fancy version, don't worry. This game is filled with different levels, gameplay and visuals and, perhaps more interestingly, it offers a deeper version of the story told on the Xbox 360. Go get it.

Putting everything into a mixing pot -- technology, price, single/multiplayer components -- I actually hold the Xbox Splinter Cell Double Agent in the highest regard of all the versions. The current-gen games have much better multiplayer (split-screen co-op is huge to me), and the single-player is still pretty darn good despite the technological limitations. And saving $20 isn't too bad either, though I do miss achievements. I think the newfangled next-gen could still stand to learn a few things from the Xbox workhorse -- even if this is the platform's last triple-A title.

Although you might expect the next gen version to shine the brightest, the current gen consoles actually turn in the brightest performance overall in my opinion, with the Xbox first, PS2 second. I found the story more fleshed out since certain story elements that are glossed over in the X360 version are given more gravity and importance. The gameplay is definitely more along the lines of Chaos Theory, which I mentioned is not a bad thing unless you’re tired of the whole SC scene in general. All in all it’s good news as current gen console owners can be confident they’ll be getting stellar gameplay experience, while those who own a 360 as well, will actually be getting double Double Agent action if they play both versions, not to mention having a better understanding how the entire story plays out. Definitely recommended.

Despite the joke that versus has unfortunately become, the single player game and co-op play together make Splinter Cell: Double Agent well worth the $40 price tag. With solid visuals pushing the Xbox hardware, top-notch sound and voice acting driving the impressively deep story and an improved version of the rich game play we’ve come to know and love, Double Agent is easily a solid 9 out of 10, and a must own for any fan of the series.

Mission accomplie par le studio d'Ubisoft qui a su réellement retravailler sa licence pour ne pas nous sortir une vulgaire suite avec des arrières-pensées lucratives. Reprenant le succès de l'épisode précédent par son moteur graphique et son gameplay, les développeurs ont su ajouter de vraies nouveautés pour attiser notre intéret de joueur dont une véritable révolution dans la série, un scénario soigné. Prenant, saisissant, stressant, Splinter Cell Double Agent est un vrai roman d'aventure teinté de thriller qui se dévore à pleines dents sans ennui et sans baisse de régime.

Splinter Cell Double Agent is a solid game with an excellent multiplayer component. Fans of a gripping storyline which includes intense action and “stealthy stealth” will no doubt enjoy this game.

More of a Splinter Cell 3.5 than a fully revamped 4, Double Agent could've been so much more. That said, and if viewed as if it was the first game in the series, it's an enjoyable experience that is definitely worth picking up whether you're a fan of the series or a newcomer - and especially if found at a price well below retail. A fairly easy 1000 if looked at simply from an achievement point of view. Here's hoping Splinter Cell 5: Conviction provides a more worthy contender to the franchise.

It's a shame that the Xbox 360 version of Splinter Cell Double Agent, being the most high-tech, is liable to get most of the attention. That's not because the Xbox 360 version isn't the best overall, since it probably is. But there are a lot of legitimately different, legitimately interesting things about the older-console versions of this game, which Splinter Cell fans simply shouldn't miss out on. Double Agent on the older consoles has a lot of its own great missions, gameplay, and plot points that you won't get from the 360 version alone, and they retail for less. The Xbox version particularly stands out, thanks to its online co-op mode and relatively impressive graphics, but the PS2 version is no slouch, either. And if you do get a chance to experience both versions of Double Agent's story, in the end, it might make a strange kind of sense. There are two sides to every story, after all.

The story is better, the trust meters "work," and the gameplay is still fun. Only problem: the next-gen content snub. Had it included online co-op and Ubisoft done more to integrate the single- and multiplayer modes, it would've scored a 9.

Und dann kamen die Versionen für aktuelle Konsolen, mit denen sich im Vergleich zum Vorjahr spielerisch sogar noch weniger ändert. Trotzdem wurde ich besser unterhalten als mit dem hoch gelobten Next-Gen-Pendant! Woran liegt es, dass Splinter Cell hier spannender, fordernder und dynamischer ist? Es ist der ständige Schutz der Dunkelheit, in dem ihr Gegner anlocken, umgehen, ungesehen erschießen oder sie im Nahkampf erledigen könnt. Ihr pirscht euch nicht nur von einer Wand zur nächsten, um bei Tageslicht nicht gesehen zu werden und müsst zudem eure Gesundheit im Auge behalten. Kurz: Ihr habt einen größeren Handlungsfreiraum - obwohl ihr auf aktuellen Konsolen stärker gefordert werdet. Denn es reicht nicht, alle Aufgaben zu erfüllen. Vielmehr wägt ihr stets ab, ob die Vertrauensanzeige beim Erledigen des nächsten Ziels nicht zu stark in Richtung der NSA oder JBA driftet. Und es ist auch der rote Faden, den die Entwickler konsequenter spinnen als das 360-Team.
