Game Chronicles
Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is a fun farewell to the series on the Xbox. It's a shame so much content had to be removed - I can't imagine why. By my own admission, I’m probably one of the worst Tony Hawk players in the world, but this game was so easy to pick up and play, and the new "Nail the Trick" is still just as addictive as the 360 version, but the prompts really take away from the challenge and make it far too easy.

Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is a good port of the next-generation version. It keeps the solid gameplay and manages to introduce “nail the trick” and focus mode to the mix. As expected there are some concessions. The graphics are noticeably worse, the motion capture animation system is gone, the streaming world is gone, and inexplicably the online multiplayer is gone, too (even on Xbox!). If you own an Xbox 360 (or are getting a PS3) there is no reason to get Project 8 on current-gen consoles. With that said, Project 8 is as good as skating can be for the Playstation 2 or Xbox.

Moins éclatante que sur Xbox 360, on reprochera surtout à cette version 128 bits de ne pas se montrer plus audacieuse et au final, de rester trop proche des anciens volets. Un bon titre tout de même, auquel il manque juste une bonne dose d'originalité.

Tony Hawk's Project 8 takes the series back to its roots, and feels like a way to introduce a new generation of gamers to the skating world. While longtime Tony Hawk fans may be initially turned off by the simplified controls, they'll still likely appreciate the nostalgic feel of the game. Plus, the new Nail the Trick feature gives both veterans and beginners a fun new toy to play with. All in all, while Project 8 may not be groundbreaking or revolutionary, it still pulls off the greatest skateboarding trick of all: It keeps things fun.

Tony Hawk's Project 8 is a sad finale to the current-gen versions of the series. This is clearly just an attempt to cash in one last time on the franchise. The level design is mediocre and the stripping of features is unacceptable. Nail the Trick is not particularly exciting on current-gen consoles and has been made too simplistic. Worst of all is the changes to manuals, which is completely unwarranted. If this is representative of the future of Tony Hawk, the series is in serious trouble.
