Description

Unreal II: The Awakening is the sequel to the original Unreal. It takes place in the same fictional universe, but the main player character and locations are different than those found in the first game.

Set in the 24th century, you play John Dalton, a Marshal for the Terran Colonial Authority (TCA), patrolling the universe in your starship Atlantis. Political turmoil is the backdrop to various excursions in a wide variety of environments. The story is revealed through briefings, cutscenes, in-game dialogue, and the action contained in the missions themselves.

Missions take place in the dense jungle of a tropical planet, in the ancient ruins of an alien city, deep underground in a warren of tunnels, on the molten surface of a hellish volcanic world, in the bowels of an alien industrial facility, in the endless oceans of a water-bound world, and on board an enemy starship. There are 13 unique settings, each with its own distinct look and production design. The gameplay in Unreal II is mostly traditional run-'n-gun.

Trivia

The Seagoat, the alien, bunny-like pet that shows up on the player's ship during mid-game, was created very early on in development and originally thought to be a huge, bovine creature that could inhabit one of the alien worlds in the game. During development, the name "Seagoat" started to stick for the creature, and it was greatly reduced in size and given the role of cute, slightly weird pet.
