Overall, V-Rally 3 has great graphics, and enough depth to keep you amused for weeks, but a complete lack of a playable multiplayer racing mode really gives pause if you're looking at this game for that aspect. No music in the races doesn't make me happy either. But you can't deny that as a single-player game, this stacks right up against Colin McRae Rally 3, and is just as fun to play. It all depends on what you're getting the game for.

Although V-Rally 3 is another racing game - another Rally racing game, you'll find that this is a game that you'll enjoy from the get-go. Downsides are the lack of split-screen versus mode and the lack of vehicle selection. Fortunately, there is always V-Rally 4 to make things right. In the meantime, if you're looking for another great Rally game, get V-Rally 3. You'll be happy you did.

V-Rally 3's audio isn't as good as the visuals, but it generally succeeds nicely. Engine noises, slipping tires, gear shifting, and other driving sounds seem convincing. Your navigator's voice is clear as he reads off the pace notes to you, though some warnings come later than they should. On the downside, the game's lame menu soundtrack is forgettable at best and downright annoying at worst. Fortunately, you can turn this music off.

Possessing a complete lack of knowledge in rally racing in real life, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from V-Rally 3. I was completely taken by surprise by how much I enjoyed racing through the wooded courses of England, the open dusty plains of Africa, and the snowy landscapes of Sweden.

V-Rally 3 is a solid game, but it falls short of being able to contend with either RalliSport Challenge or Colin McRae. It suffers from difficult controls, a lack of different gameplay modes, and some occasionally odd graphics. (And it doesn't help that RalliSport Challenge is still considered one of the prettiest games for the system.) On the other hand, if you're looking for a quick burst of some extremely challenging driving around, you might want to take a spin in V-Rally 3.
