As a strict racer, World Racing fails to rise above the pack in a notoriously overcrowded genre. If you're just looking for a good racing game, there are too many far better titles out there for this one to get a recommendation. The ability to leave the game's tracks and explore its massive environments, however, gives it a relaxing quality that's surprisingly refreshing. If the world outside the racetrack were just a little more interactive and the races a tad more interesting, this game could have been a contender. As it stands, World Racing is probably worth a rental or two at best.

In the end, WorldRacing ticks enough of the boxes to be a contender, but it doesn't have that final lap adrenaline injection to send it sailing through the finish line competitively. It's too hard, it's a bit feebly constructed in places, and it plays too much like real driving, which, for a game laden with UFOs, is a bit of a contradiction.

Minor issues aside, the game advertises many things about itself that just aren't true. It's not a stunningly accurate sim, it doesn't provide the sort of overview of Mercedes-Benz cars that you'd expect, and its graphical presentation has more than a few flaws. For those reasons, it's worth skipping even if you have an uncontrollable urge to drive several of the world's most well-engineered station wagons.

With the saturation of the racing games on the Xbox and the better driving experiences offered by many other titles, World Racing will have a hard time sticking out. It's almost the definition of average. Nothing really sticks out as unique or interesting, and while it doesn't do a heck of a lot wrong, it refuses to push any of the genre's boundaries. Having the Mercedes license is cool, sure, but that isn't enough to stop it from being yet another forgettable Xbox racing game.
