Overall, no baseball fan can go wrong picking this up. The visual experience is best on the Xbox; it's not as flashy on the PS2, especially with its framerate issues that pop up at times. But everything else is about equal on both consoles.
Overall, this game's got the right stuff to show you a good time through 162 games and beyond. World Series Baseball 2K3 remains an Xbox powerhouse for 2003.
Sega Sports has done it again. WSB2K3 has enough to keep casual and intense baseball fans happy. There aren’t many baseball games I would call addictive, but this game is definitely one of those “need to pry the controller away from your hands” game. If you’re looking for bench-clearing brawls or long balls threatening low flying aircrafts, you’re better off looking elsewhere. WSB2K3 is all about the game of baseball.
Blue Shift did a great job creating World Series Baseball 2K. High production values, awesome details and options and generally involving play dynamics made last years' World Series one of the greatest ball games ever, and the minor improvements to this year's game seem to be enough to keep Sega Sports' franchise on top of the pack.
Minor criticisms aside, World Series Baseball 2K3 is spectacular. It's easy to play and deep enough to lose yourself in. The ESPN branding may seem like a gimmick at first, but it's really just one part of a thoroughly enjoyable product.
Blue Shift has outdone themselves. At first glance, some may think this is just a rehash of last year. But play WSB 2K3. Play it a lot. And you'll begin to see that subtle gameplay changes make this a better game then last year. If you're wondering why the score is just a notch about the one given in 2002, it's for one simple reason. World Series Baseball is an improvement over last season, but there are too many things Blue Shift didn't fix. No balls bouncing in the infield Come on now, that's gotta be there.
To me, World Series Baseball 2K3 is the best baseball game out that gives you everything, but not necessarily the best of everything. If you are not up to doing a franchise in this game it may be smart to avoid WSB, as the franchise mode is the bread and butter of this game. A great game that I will spend hours on even after the baseball season is over.
Armchair Empire, The
Sega swings for the fences and hits it out of the park with WSB2K3, one of the most realistic and enjoyable baseball video games ever. It does have a few errors, such as the awful play-by-play and color commentary, some not-perfect outfield fielding controls, and (unbelievably) no online play, but there’s so much to like in WSB2K3 it can be forgiven. WSB2K3 is such an amazing game, it can single-handedly rekindle the love of the pure sport of baseball that many fans lost (including myself) that fateful lost 1994 strike season.
World Series Baseball 2K3 is the best baseball game to date. With all the modifications over last year's version, WSB2K3 is as close as you can get to perfection. The Madden of baseball games is finally here so you need to go out and spend your hard earned dead presidents, so that you too can make errors and strike out like the pros.
If you’re a baseball fan and own an Xbox, pick up this game, don’t question yourself! If you’re looking for the best baseball game for your Xbox, pick up this game, don’t question yourself. If you’re looking for a sports game that will keep you busy for hours and hours, pick up this game and don’t question yourself! World Series Baseball 2K3 is in every way, shape and form the best baseball game for the Xbox right now. This game is not a rental, it is a must buy game. With excellent gameplay, stunning graphics, and hours of fun, World Series Baseball 2K3 should be on your “things to buy” list.
Visual Concepts and Sega, has really established themselves in the world of virtual sports. This season?s World Series Baseball should be on or near the top of every baseball fan?s list of games to get this season. However with competition as deep as it has ever been, they have raised the bar on how a baseball game should look. Not as deep or as complex as some of the other competitors in the field, World Series Baseball 2K3 is the perfect blend of an arcade baseball game and a hardcore sim. While some of the simulation aspects will a turn off some baseball fans who want a more statistically correct game, it is a baseball game that is fun and exciting to play. If you are a baseball fan of any kind, you owe it to yourself to at least check this game out. ?Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks; I don?t care if I never come back! So root, root, root, for the Mariners (Eds. Note: Go Mets!), if they don't win it?s a shame??
Pick this one up if you have even a modicum of interest in sporting games. The franchise mode puts all others, in any sport, to shame. Even without support for online matches, the replay factor of this game is astounding. Graphics, sound, gameplay...WSB 2k3 just hits all the right spots.
Without a doubt, 2003 is an excellent year for baseball fans. Three companies have delivered strong offerings which means two things: plenty of choice for gamers this year, and even better baseball games next year. Heated competition is always good for gamers.
The Video Game Critic
World Series 2K3's intuitive control and arcade sensibility make it your best bet for a "next generation" baseball game. But as good as it is, it's still a bit slow, and it's still baseball.
