For the rest of you who may have sidestepped the series up to now or are new to it completely, it's probably fairly obvious by now that I'm a convert. There's something genuinely thrilling about Ace Combat's high speed dog-fighting that grabs you by your throat and refuses to let go. It's unashamedly arcadey, it doesn't last all that long and the between mission cut scenes are a bit of a pointless distraction, but once you're in the air there's few games that provide as intense a feeling of exhilaration. For that alone you should give it a go, it's a better way to spend a few hours than watching Top Gun for a start.

Over all, Ace Combat 6 is a good game but because of the final mission, it might be one you'd struggle to complete, but the multiplayer will more then make up for it, specially if you have the broadband speed to make it a real dogfight. If you like your next-gen graphics stunning, then you can't go wrong with 'Fires of Liberation', which has views that will take your breath away. But you do need more then just graphics, no matter what the games developers would have you believe, and whilst the majority of the game has just that, the huge difficulty in the final mission will probably be too much for a lot of people, which is a shame.

Pelin vahvan arcade-henkisyyden huomioon ottaen Xbox 360:n perusohjain riittää ainakin allekirjoittaneelle täysin mukaansatempaavan kokemuksen saavuttamiseksi.

Without overly dumbing down the modern military sim fighter, Namco Bandai has managed to create a very accessible flying game that has all of the presentation bells and whistles of its big boy cousins. Whether this is your first flying game or you’re an old-school PC flight sim fan, there’s fun to be had in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, especially if you have a broadband connection and other friends looking to “keep up foreign relations” with the enemy. Just a few clicks short of the perfect console flyer, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation is a title worth locking onto.

I'm still not totally convinced I would recommend this Ace Combat or any of the other excellent series entries to absolutely everyone - a certain fascination with flying and an undisguised lust for military aircraft are prerequisites. But if Fires of Liberation doesn't catch your eye, I'm not sure if any game of this ilk ever will.

There’s a lot to talk about with AC6. I’ve tried my best to condense the experience into this review, but it’s really a game that can’t be described in so few words. Chances are Ace Combat fans already own this game. And if you’re a flight sim enthusiast, I highly recommend this game. Other gamers who aren’t into flight sims – check AC6 out. Give it a chance. It’s not complicated like some of the other simulators I’ve played in the past: Ace Combat 6 is aerial combat for the uninitiated as well. That’s not too say it’s easy, and gamers will find it a worthwhile challenge. You won’t be disappointed when you’re flying with the angels in Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.

Ace Combat 6 is certainly a welcome addition to the Xbox 360 library of games, and although we've already had a few flying games to date, none can match the quality of Namco's efforts. The game ticks all of the right boxes when it comes to the genre, but the real star of this game are its looks. That's not to say the gameplay is lacking, but a genuine feeling that the game provides a sense of aesthetic realism unmatched by any game thus far. If you like flying games or are a fan of the series, then Ace Combat 6 is well worth the purchase. If you are on the fence with these types of games, then I suggest a rental, even if that is just to sample the graphical prowess on display here.

In sum, Fires of Liberation is the complete package for any fan of the franchise, or anyone looking for a fairly accessible fighter-sim. The game is extremely impressive in both the audio and visual departments with the aforementioned fighter modeling, as well as a competent soundtrack backing up radio chatter and sound effects—although, the scenery may look a bit like Google Maps with some added buildings, but it integrates well and gets the job done. Gameplay may boil down to attack this or that, but the variation between air-to-air and air-to-ground operations make for enjoyable, changing mission dynamics. Ace Combat 6 is certainly a must-own 360 exclusive.

Aside from online play, Ace Combat 6 doesn't break any real new ground for the series. In fact, some cool past features, such as AC5's radioed yes/no questions, are nowhere to be found. Yet Ace Combat 6 makes up for it by providing the most immersive experience yet in an arcade flight combat game, thanks to smooth, gorgeous visuals and polished gameplay. And you'll want to play again and again: There are medals to earn, aircraft and special weapons to purchase with the points you receive during missions, and a good selection of Xbox Live achievement points to earn that are spread out evenly among the campaign and multiplayer modes. You can also save replays of your matches, and the cinematic camera views make them a pleasure to watch. Whether you're an Ace Combat veteran or a series newcomer, you won't be disappointed.

With all that said, Ace Combat 6 has really good strengths in most categories. The replay value is not high, but completing all the extras and achievements in the game will sure keep players busy and engaged. Even the online feature and DLCs will surely keep dreaming flyboys tight on their flight sticks and still ask for more.

Console Monster
Overall, Ace Combat 6 is a well executed addition to the long running series, which has made the crossing well from its home on Sony’s PlayStation to the Xbox 360. This combat simulation, though a little forgiving in gameplay, fulfils its arcade roots and will give any novice pilot a good introduction to the genre while providing the more veteran amongst you a pleasurable and rewarding experience. It was sad to have such a shallow and uninspiring storyline to keep you going until the very end, but with the game’s stunning visuals and effects, arcade pick up and play gameplay, online multiplayer and co-op features there is plenty here to satisfy your appetite in being the next Maverick or Ice Man.

IGN
Ace Combat 6 isn't a perfect game. A lot about the presentation feels dated, the dialogue is drab, and though the sound effects are done well, the constant beeping that warns of incoming missiles is a bit much. But what Ace Combat 6 does well, it nails. The realistic visual design married with the arcade controls make for a game that anyone can have fun with. This is the closest to the imaginary dream of being in Top Gun that most of us are ever going to get.

Ace Combat 6 is exactly the game you’re expecting it to be. It’s got a story that no one really cares about and most gamers will skip to in order to get to the dogfighting. It features multiple planes and weapons to purchase. Despite the fact that it’s a complete “been there, done that” experience, it’s still actually a lot of fun to play. Every guy in America that’s ever seen Top Gun is going to enjoy playing a game like this, and there’s no other series that captures that feeling better. The biggest upgrade in this installment is the stunning visuals. Jets and missiles leave fantastic-looking trails, and the sky looks like some insane canvas by the end of most missions. Rivers reflect the sun beautifully, the planes look realistic, and I caught myself just watching the debris fall from downed planes on more than one occasion. If you’ve ever wanted a nice dogfighting experience on a console, you don’t have to look farther than the Ace Combat series.

Enter the latest installment of the highly successful Ace Combat series. Ace Combat 6 delivers adrenaline pumping action and new features not found in the previous Ace Combat titles.

IGN Australia
Even if you’ve never tried an arcade flyer before, Ace Combat 6 is at least worthy of a rent. The amazing visuals combined with massive, intense battles make it a total blast… while it lasts. A longer campaign would have been nice, but the online Siege mode should keep you going for a while to come.

With this first foray into this generation of consoles, Namco Bandai provided one heck of a ride that any fan of flight sims, action titles or even "Top Gun" could get into. Providing solid gameplay throughout the duration of the game and the incredibly fun online modes, Ace Combat 6 ups the ante and more than makes up for the minor failings of previous versions.

The Review Busters
It's really not a perfect game, and at times can be frustrating, but the audio and visual greatness, as well as the gameplay of Ace Combat 6 more than make up for its relatively few shortcomings. I know a lot of people may think that it's a weak reason to want to own a 360, but I thought highly enough of the series to buy the console at some point (you hear that, Wii? Not yet, but your time will come). While it didn't wow me as much as the 5th installment of the series did, it did not dissapoint.

If you’re a 360 owner pining for more aerial action than Blazing Angels, Ace Combat 6 is definitely your ticket. The game looks and sounds fantastic, and offers an impressive level of control and combat refinement that fans have come to expect from the series. The multiplayer aspects are the icing on the cake, however, and give the overall game plenty of longevity long after you’ve conquered the intense single-player campaign.

Ace Combat 6 offers hours upon hours of intense dog fighting gameplay, wrapped in a glorious presentation, and if you want to get crazy, purchase the $149.99 bundle, which includes both the game and flight stick. We'll see you online, say hello and then blow you up.

While not the worst game in the franchise (title held by Ace Combat Advance), it's a step below the masterful works of Ace Combat 4 and 5. You'll get enjoyment out of the game if you're a long time fan of the series, but if you haven't played one before now don't start with this game (give Ace Combat 5 a try). The gameplay is solid and fun, but it just can't surpass the game that came out three years before it.

More than anything else, we're just happy to have another Ace Combat game we can genuinely say we really like, rather than just saying we don't dislike it. The series has rated a categorical "meh" for some time now; but no longer. Ace Combat 6 can be our wingman any time.

Online, Ace Combat also makes progress, offering a couple co-op missions and a team objective game to go with the expected (but 16-player!) skirmish modes. Namco Bandai says downloadable planes, maps, and levels are to come, but unless they can fix the frustrating mission structure -- the game's largest problem -- I'm only mildly interested.
