Doch leider hat Eidos verpasst dem Spiel die gewisse Schärfe beizusteuern. Während des Kampfes passiert zwar einiges, aber irgendwie will der Funke nicht so richtig überspringen. Dies liegt mit Sicherheit zum Teil an den schwachen Soundeffekten und den öden Synchronsprechern, aber auch an der teilweise langweiligen Erzählstruktur. Dennoch weiß das Spiel zu gefallen und die positiven Aspekte überwiegen eindeutig. Das Feeling auf einer riesigen Landkarte etliche Kriegseinheiten zu befehligen und bei Actionbedarf sogar selbst zu steuern ist wirklich gelungen.

Rarely do genre hybrids offer two styles of gameplay that are equal in quality, but this one comes close. This excellent synergy gives the game the potential to be unique every time you play, and that variety and replay value is only enhanced by the solid and well-designed multiplayer modes. While the core gameplay and presentation do little to set Battlestations: Pacific apart from its predecessor, the blending of two genres and high replayability make this entry in the series a solid choice for anyone interested in WWII.

"Battlestations: Pacific" é um sopro de criatividade em um tema tão batido quanto a 2ª Guerra Mundial. A mistura caótica de ação veicular e estratégia em tempo real é desafiadora e empolgante, funcionando de uma maneira muito melhor do que poderia se esperar, mesmo com algumas passagens mais arrastadas. Apesar da dublagem caricata, os aspectos técnicos são caprichados e o suporte online torna tudo ainda mais divertido, em uma bela surpresa em tempos fracos de lançamentos significantes.

Sometimes when a game features so many pieces, it starts to fall apart. Many open world games, for example, have dozens and dozens of things to do but none of them serve any purpose except to add another bullet point on the back of the box. Battlestations Pacific isn't like that. Every single thing that your troops can do has meaning and you need to use every unit available to you in order to achieve victory. This is not an easy game, as the first two levels would have you think, but it is an extremely rewarding game. You'll need plenty of time to grasp all the concepts that are thrown at you, but eventually you'll see that magic eye picture.

Battlestations Pacific provides an epic sense of scale with some unique mission types, but the hybrid nature of its action-strategy gameplay presents a sword that is often dull on both sides.

The five multiplayer modes and eight scaleable maps give fans a lot of replay value, but the game’s fundamental flaw is still intact: boring gameplay. Bombing runs can be fun, but navigating slow ships with even slower ammo reloads and babysitting units doesn’t add up to a riveting experience. Count this bored midshipman out.
