Je vais peut-être en faire tomber plus d’un de leur chaise mais tant pis : Beyond Good & Evil n’est pas un jeu culte ! Voilà c’est lancé, un gros pavé dans la mare qui a dû en arroser certains. Mais qu’est ce qu’un jeu culte pour moi ? C’est un jeu hors norme qui aura marqué l’histoire du jeu vidéo et force est de constater que Beyond Good & Evil a réalisé des ventes ridicules et reste très convenu dans son gameplay et dans l’aventure qu’il propose. Alors certes, ce n’est pas un jeu culte, mais cela reste un des jeux les plus attachants qu’il m’ait été donné de jouer et c’est pour cela qu’il occupe encore une grosse place dans le cœur de nombreux joueurs et qu’il mérite largement d’être découvert et joué. Ceux qui connaissent Jade la retrouveront avec plaisir les autres devrait déjà se jeter sur ce qui est l’un des meilleurs jeux d’aventure du XLA, si ce n’est le meilleur.
Beyond Good & Evil was ooit een hele toffe game, maar werd helaas geen commercieel succes. Om de game nog eens met een vers likje verf uit te brengen is best wel een goed idee.
You play as investigative reporter and orphanarium operator Jade, and you wander an archipelago on the planet Hyllis, working with the rebellious IRIS network to overthrow a corrupt military regime aiding an alien invasion. At its base, the game is simple: explore Hyllis, enter a dungeon, solve puzzles, photograph proof of the DomZ (evil alien overlords) conspiracy, repeat until dramatic space-bound climax. What distinguishes Beyond Good & Evil from imitators to Link’s throne, however, is Hyllis itself. While it’s as small as Ocarina’s 64-bit Hyrule, Hyllis is alive, with each character and corner of the world giving the impression of history. It’s also impressive that among the game’s disparate array of activities—hovercraft racing, stealth, one-button combat, nature photography—none of them drag the action down. This HD re-release on Xbox Live Arcade is now the definitive version of the game, thanks to a streamlined menu system and improved character models…
Most pleasing of all is the cost. At a time when many downloadable games are sliding up to the 1200 MS Points barrier, the 800-Point price tag for this much-beloved classic shows that a little generosity can go a long way. If, like me, you let this one pass you by, there's no excuse not to rectify that mistake now.
If this kind of zany European weirdness doesn’t put you off, (or even turns you on) then there’s a lot to love in BGAE. A rich, gorgeous world, a grown up storyline and great characters with a strong female protagonist are all waiting for you. Come on! If enough of you buy this HD Remix, they’ll make the rest of the trilogy!
The whole concept of Beyond Good & Evil comes from the mind of Michel Ancel, creator of the Rayman games and has made the game one of those classic adventures that you never want to end. Between its stunning exotic places and innovative puzzles, in addition to a unique combat system that feels far from a ‘hack n slash’, Beyond Good & Evil is a lot of fun. You can rush through the game but it is one of those titles you want to discover everything about, finding every hidden thing which could take anywhere from 12 to 15 hours or so. Believe it or not Beyond Good & Evil was originally planned to be a trilogy and that might just happen with a sequel in the works for next gen consoles, coming from the same mind that brought the original. So I would definitely recommend this game as there is no telling where the story might take us in the next game you wouldn’t want to miss anything from this great adventure that is only 800 Microsoft Points.
Difficile de donner une note à un titre de 2003 qui n'a fondamentalement pas changé. Au-delà (haha !) de ses graphismes légèrement affinés Beyond Good & Evil reste fidèle à lui-même. On retrouve donc un titre envoûtant, riche, intelligent, drôle et poétique qui n'a pas pris une ride. Certes, on regrette le fait qu'Ubisoft n'ait pas profité de l'occasion pour corriger le seul et unique défaut du jeu, c'est-à-dire sa caméra, mais le fait est que l'expérience s'avère toujours aussi exceptionnelle. Du coup, si vous faites partie des joueurs qui n'ont jamais eu le plaisir de croiser BGE, voilà sans doute le moment de vous rattraper.
Overall, Beyond Good & Evil HD, for those who haven't played the original, is a great choice and will prove certain delight, even if its visuals aren't what you might expect in 2011. For those who still keep the older one in high regard, it's a pretty fun blast from the past which feels great even after many years.
All in all, Beyond Good & Evil was a classic game that got a nice HD treatment for this re-release. I may have pointed out a lot of things that seem a bit dated but this is an eight year old game, what did you expect? This is a game where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The action, exploration, stealth and vehicle sections are not the best in any of their respective departments but BG&E brings them all together into great game that will be loved for nostalgic reasons by people who played it and will also be enjoyed by modern gamers, though they probably won’t understand what all the fuss is about. If you haven’t played this game yet, you now have no reason not to. 800MSP ($10) is a steal for this classic game and it’s never looked better.
At the end of the day, Beyond Good & Evil still has all the hallmarks of a timeless classic. The watery planet of Hillys was deliberately built to match the quaintness of Hyrule, and yet there’s a harder edge here that enables much deeper emotional attachment to the narrative and the characters. Even though this is a Spartan HD remake with sweet bugger all extras added, it’s hard not to be seduced by the perfect-pacing, worthwhile exploration and the distinctly “French” story and setting. At a piddling 800 MS points this is absolutely worth revisiting or is must-play material if you’ve never shot a government to death before (using only a camera).
For all its charm and character, this isn't a game that has aged fantastically well. The new character models and HD visuals do a great job of bringing Hillys to life, but only serve to contrast how far game design has come in eight years. We're more critical of camera issues and interface problems these days, spoiled by the likes of Uncharted and Mass Effect. Considering the effort gone into revamping the character models, it strikes me as odd that Ubisoft hasn't addressed these issues too. For a measly 800 points, however, you're getting one of the best action adventure games of its day. Sure, under the new paint is some slightly rotten woodwork, but it's built on an incredibly solid foundation. If you passed on the opportunity the first time round, now is a great time to find out what you missed.
