Game remakes have become their own little cottage industry in recent years; any company in possession of a stable of classic franchises is essentially sitting on free money. Even then, remakes of Rearmed's caliber are uncommon; it ranks up there with Metroid: Zero Mission and Mega Man: Powered Up as the best of the best, the standard by which to judge all others. Given the quality of the core mission, the cooperative multiplayer, the copious hidden content, the expansive optional modes, and the exhaustive in-game database, Rearmed is a game that could easily sell for full retail price and seem like a good deal. That it's on offer for a mere sawbuck (or $15, for you unlucky PC fans) should go down in history as one of gaming's best deals. If you enjoy a well-crafted action game, you'd be remiss in skipping Rearmed -- even if you couldn't care less about NES games.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is, without a doubt, the best downloadable remake yet released on any platform. For fans of the old school game or newbies to franchise, it is well worth your moolah.

Gaming Nexus
Capcom yet again proves that they are one of the few companies that knows how to resurrect a classic franchise. Twenty years may have passed between the original release and this remake, but Bionic Commando: Rearmed feels just as relevant today as it did back in the late 1980s. At a mere $10 this is one game you can't afford to ignore!

Giant Bomb
Bionic Commando: Rearmed is terrific in almost every way, revitalizing a classic but long-dormant game in an exciting way that stands on its own, but also serves as a potent reminder that there's a new retail sequel on the horizon that'll bring all this crazy swinging to 3D environments.

Thunderbolt Games
Bionic Commando: Rearmed is THE complete package at a low, low price. If Capcom wanted to be greedy, this could have been a full game for sale on almost every platform at $30-40 dollars, but luckily they went the digital download route. This is probably one of the best, if the not the best downloadable title on the PSN and XBLA by far.

Deeko
As it stands Bionic Commando Rearmed is one of the best titles on XBLA, sporting huge production values, plenty of laugh out loud moments and some of the tightest most enjoyable levels of any game out there today. Bionic Commando Rearmed is without a doubt the best $10 you'll spend this year on gaming!

Game Vortex
The only downside to this game is the unlimited continues, at least when compared to the original classic. There is something taken away with this feature, and newcomers probably won't appreciate the true difficulty of twenty years earlier through this remake. However, it also needs to again be mentioned that this new feature does allow for some great pick-up-and-play action whenever you see fit to turn on the console. The addition of the multiplayer and challenge modes more than makes up for this slight setback, making Bionic Commando: Rearmed worthy of a true videogame crown. In fact, even the Achievements are, for the most part, actual Achievements that will also give you a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment, unlike many other games that manufacture them as a last thought. Do yourself a favor and download Bionic Commando: Rearmed. You won't regret it.

I had never played the original on the NES, but after playing this now I regret not having tried this all those years ago. I really cannot fault this game, it has all of indicators of a classic game and my final score reflects this. Get it now.

IGN
Bionic Commando Rearmed sets a new benchmark for downloadable console games. The best elements of the original are back, but have been upgraded to be better than before. The new bosses add a more interesting challenge and the final level is one for the ages. And, of course, the visuals are brilliant. The remastered soundtrack is fantastic as well. From top to bottom, Bionic Commando Rearmed is an incredible game that's well worth owning.

Digital Chumps
Bionic Commando Rearmed is without a doubt one of the best downloadable games released on any system to date. It’s a remake that knows the strengths and weaknesses of the original title and exercises that knowledge to improve upon it in every way possible without infringing upon the classic feel of the game… and that’s got to be the highest compliment that can be paid to a remake. But it’s also so much more than that; between the Challenge Mode and the numerous added features in the main game, Rearmed is the closest thing to the ultimate classic game revival we’ve seen in downloadable form to date. Bravo, Capcom/GRIN!

Bionic Commando Rearmed Is a fine example of how to take on old game and make it new again without stripping it of what made it unique and fun to begin with. It’s got a fantastic sense of style in its presentation. It can get frustrating at times, but ultimately the game is good fun. This is definitely a highly recommendable download.

Worth Playing
Bionic Commando Rearmed is easily a strong enough title to go for $30 on the PSP, and it's definitely a worthy PlayStation Network/Live Arcade title at $10. The graphics overhaul, improved boss battles, hacking mini-game, new weapons and bionic arm abilities, multiplayer support and additional content will provide immense replay value. Existing and future fans of the series should grab it and hope that the next-gen offering can compete when it's released later this year. It's going to be tough to top this.

In the end Bionic Commando Rearmed is the epitome of how to remake a game for the next generation. If you were a fan of the original you will love the attention to detail and classically epic soundtrack. If you are new to the series you will grow to love the swinging mechanic, once you get the hang of it. Overall Rearmed is one for the ages and is a perfect example of how to make a great downloadable game. Now that Capcom has exhausted their portfolio perhaps it is time for a Strider re-imagining…anyone?

Game Over Online
All in all, I’d say that its combination of stellar, addictive gameplay and well-crafted graphical and audio work make this a must-have. Between the core game and the challenge rooms, the replay value is through the roof, and it’s something that I can see myself playing in some form for years to come - even if it’s just to topple an existing score in a challenge room, or to beat my best time. If you’re new to the series, this is a fantastic starting point, while series vets will absolutely love it. At just $10 USD, it’s a no-brainer given how much quality content is contained within the game.

With not so many great retail games out right now, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a great game for you to try out in this hot summer. It offers everything the old fans of the series could have wished for plus some new features for everyone else to enjoy. Capcom did a great job with this remake, redesigning nearly everything from the bosses to the levels and even the game’s overall interface. Get used to the controls and you will be enjoying a really great game at a very affordable price.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is one of the best downloadable titles to date. The production value, quirky humor, outstanding platforming challenge, and low cost make this a game everyone should pick up. Look for Bionic Commando Rearmed to set the bar for future AAA downloadable content when it releases on August 13th for XBLA and August 14th on PSN.

Bionic Commando Rearmed is not a release for everyone. Less experienced gamers can lower the difficulty level, but doing this covers the harder jumps with transparent blocks. Yes, this makes the game easier, but it's also strangely embarrassing - it feels like you've been handed a set of arm bands. In any case, doing this defeats the point: it's supposed to be hard, and you're supposed to like it. If you're short on patience or have a nervous disorder, then you should approach Rearmed with caution. If, however, you love the genre and harbor fond memories of the original, then this game will seem like a gift from the Eighties God of Shooty Bang-Bang. You may be slightly narked by the fact that you can't play co-op online, but hey - that wouldn't be very retro, would it?

However, the difficulty is something to take note of before you drop your 800 Microsoft points (or about $10) on it. As challenges go, it’s brutal, so be prepared what you’re in for. Of course, what you’re in for is a brilliantly realized XBLA game, with scads of replayability, a hot look and a commitment to its arcade roots—if the MIDI-based soundtrack doesn’t pump your heart rate up to 120 BPM, then maybe you should double check that you’re even alive—that deserves our deepest respect. But it is what it is, and the faint of heart or awkward of thumb need not apply.

Console Monster
Bionic Commndo Rearmed is quite a tough game, just like the original. It is an almost faithful recreation of the NES classic that made me feel like the developer and Capcom really knew what they were doing. Bionic Commando is not as amazing as the recently released Braid, but it is up there as one of the best Xbox LIVE Arcade titles available. Once again, The Summer of Arcade dishes us another fantastic game!

Totally Gaming Network
Overall this is a fantastic update for a classic title. It is in widescreen so you don’t have to worry about the bars on either side of your screen like some other past titles. This is yet another stellar title in Microsoft’s “Summer of Arcade” and is well worth the admission fee.

In other reviews for this game, the last paragraph has served as a "it’s like the original, but..." section. However, like I stated from the beginning I have never set my claws on the NES, or even the Arcade version. Bionic Commando Rearmed was judged on its own merits, separate and treated just like any other game. This allows me to be critical, but not overly critical because they added or took away something I didn’t like. No, this game was judge on whether or not it could stand on its own two feet. While those two feet can’t jump, the bionic arm carries the weight and makes this game something special and unique. For 800 Microsoft Points, this game is a steal, and should not be missed by any PS3, Xbox 360 or PC owner. I whole-heartedly suggest you take arms with Bionic Commando Rearmed.

Planet Xbox 360
Xbox 360 typically lacks good platformers, but Bionic Commando Rearmed is a great one. Though it only takes several hours to beat, you will keep coming back to find more secrets and best your times in the challenge rooms. This is one of the best remakes ever made for a current generation console, check it out as soon as humanly possible.

Bionic Commando is one of the top ten classic remakes that have been revived for the consoles since the concepts debut. Bionic Commando Rearmed does everything right from its updated beautiful looking graphics, to the added multiplayer support and new challenge mode. For the price Capcom is asking on Live and the PSN, it’s totally a worth while purchase. The only buyer beware advice I can hand over is that Bionic Commando rearmed takes some work. This is a mildly challenging game and not a cake-walk remix. Bionic Commando is worth the time and money to re-explore this long armed classic.

At $10, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a steal. It's one of those games that feels organic to play. There are certainly some hangovers from the age the game was originally released in, but its stylized production values and challenging gameplay will get you hooked. It would've been great to play co-op online with friends but there's so much content for the money that we're not about to complain.

Unbedingt probe zocken!

Regardless of these issues, I think that the entirety of the game far outweighs its minor flaws. While the single-player experience is truly the high point of the $10 purchase, the multiplayer and challenge rooms act like the "sprinkles on the cupcake," giving the player more game than they should ever expect for $10. Not only that, but the level of quality that comes through in BC:R shows that there can still be place for retro aesthetics and gameplay in today's market.

Game Positive
When it comes down to it, Rearmed is good example of how to reinvent a classic title. It features many of the updates and extras you've come to expect from a proper remake, yet follows the formula laid out by its predecessor extremely close. While long time fans might object, the game could have used a bit more attention in the control department, as well as an upgrade to the swing mechanic. It was needlessly punishing back in the day and still remains so. Despite that fact, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a first-rate downloadable title, and if you don't mind 2D platforming gameplay with a bit of old school challenge, this is one to check out.

Good Game
A hacking minigame breaks up the action, as does a top-down shoot-em-up that takes place when you're attacked between missions. All up a good well rounded game, and a big nostalgia hit for those who played it on the NES, 8/10

PlayDevil
This is how many developers should remake classics. The graphics have been beautifully updated and the retro but modern music and sound effects are the icing on the cake. Levels have been kept similar to the classic game so players of the older version will be very familiar, having said that there are differences in levels, such as the hacking stations etc. The lengthy campaign and the huge selection of challenges offer a lot for the price. The campaign can be completed in a few hours but then there are secret items to be found and the different difficulties. Upon completion Super Hard Mode unlocks, which is aptly named. In other words, "Bionic Commando: Rearmed" is a beauty and should be definitely on your buy-list.

Its strength is its weakness. It has a solid, unrelenting challenge that will remind veteran gamers of years gone by when games made no apologies for being so stupidly, frustratingly, agonisingly tough. There's a real satisfaction when you finally master the arm that allows you to swing around the level like a tooled-up Tarzan, with the retro beats and Duke Nukem script adding to the retro feel. Yet it's those very same things that will turn everyone else off. You should already know which camp you fall into...

Capcom really did a great job of walking the fine line between paying homage to the classic and moving in a new direction. Of course, Rearmed isn't perfect: the controls take some getting used to, the hacking mini-game's sort of lame, and the game is still brutally tough--curse you spiked floors!--but it's a great update that I heartily recommend to old school NES fans and new gamers alike.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
Between the multiplayer modes and the Challenge Rooms, there's more than enough innovation to make up for the minor irritations of the retro controls. Far from perfect, Bionic Commando Rearmed is still a much more complete and robust package than either 1942 Joint Strike or Commando 3 and another impressive addition to Capcom's download library.

GameDaily
Despite its difficulty, Bionic Commando Rearmed is a terrific platform game. The presentation is great, the gameplay is fun and the extras more than validate the cheap $10 (or 800 point) price tag. Make sure to keep it well within your reach.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is one of the better remakes of one of the better games of the 8-bit era. If you are looking for a fun platformer with unique and inventive gameplay, I'd recommend picking this one up for 10 bucks.

MS Xbox World
Bionic Commando: Rearmed gives both old school fans and newcomers alike an arcade title worthy of spending 800 Microsoft points. The game offers quite the challenge during the story mode and with the slew of other gaming options it should entertain gamers enough to keep luring them back for more. The amazing graphics and sound don’t give away that this is a rehashed game from the late 80's. Even though the game controls can be frustrating at times it personifies everything that had us “hooked” the first time around. Nathan “Rad” Spencer and his bionic arm are one of the rare “must have” retro games to have hanging around in your games library.

While the scores are slightly tilted by the fact that the game's only $10, Bionic Commando: Rearmed still stands on its own as superior to many full-priced games. Go get this game. It’s like a chicken sandwich and some BBQ sauce from Checkers.

Game Revolution
Fans of the original will feel immediately at home with Bionic Commando Rearmed, and if you’re one of them, you probably already bought the game anyway. For people who never got to experience the game the first time around, it’s a great opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. More than just a straight remake, Rearmed feels like a game that really has been refined twice.
75
GameSpot
It's unfortunate that developer GRIN didn't put the same amount of effort into updating the gameplay as they did the graphics. The control limitations really hamper the overall enjoyment of this otherwise well-preserved classic. Despite some questionable design decisions, the overwhelming amount of content should satisfy action fans hungry for a punishing, old-school romp. Anyone eager to set aside 20 years of design evolution will find a game that still retains the same clever levels and novel swinging mechanics that made the original's charm endure through four console generations.
70
Good Game
I liked it, and it throws different kinds of enemies at you to think differently, I don’t think I’d spend too much time in it though, 7/10.
70
Official XBox Magazine
Adding to the annoyance are unavoidable encounters that hinder your travel as you try to make your way between different areas, triggering top-down sequences that are all virtually the same and are — aside from the occasional 1-up — boring. However, Rearmed does offer a slew of secrets to discover and challenges to undertake, and if you’ve got the old-school bug, you’ll revel in it. So yes, we recognize and appreciate that this is an exact remake of a classic game, but the bottom line is, many of you will decide that its unforgiving nature saps too much fun out of what is otherwise a lovingly reassembled classic.

Buy only if you are a fan of the original or the demo really sells you. The demo is a bad example of gameplay from the actual game and some people will feel ripped off if they buy BC:RA based on the demo.
