Brave is another attempt to revitalize the cartoony action adventure genre, but it fails in just about every aspect of the game. My only real motivation to finish the game was the big fat 500 point paycheck at the end; there were numerous points where I stopped having fun and just wanted to pack up and leave.

The additional fetch quests may provide a couple more hours of gameplay, but they highlight the aforementioned platforming issues and have none of the colorful charm of the earlier levels. Any enjoyment you may have garnered from playing through the story is soured because the satisfaction of completing the adventure is jerked away from you. Though it offers adequate adventure action, Brave: A Warrior's Tale shoots itself in the foot at the eleventh hour, and you should stay away to avoid becoming collateral damage.

Brave: A Warrior's Tale is a simple title meant for kids unfamiliar with the gaming world. As an introductory product -- an ultra light action-adventure -- Brave has far too many rotten bits and oddities to recommend. It's still a functional game on a basic level, despite its control and camera issues, and its low level of difficulty keep it readily accessible. With gameplay ranging from straightforward platfoming and combat to swooping down on an eagle amidst a herd of buffalo to nab enemy riders, there's been a definite effort made to keep things from getting stale. If only it all worked as smoothly as it should. It's expected that a family friendly title may not have the depth some are looking for, but that doesn't mean it should be given a free pass when it's this sloppily thrown together.

Again, nothing to fun about this. Bad platforming, and shoddy controls will almost surely turn off any youngster that may be interested in the game.

Our disgust was solidified near the end of the six-hour campaign, as the PS2 version's final boss fight is astonishingly cut short to insert an hour-plus of new fetch quests. We understand padding the game a bit, but lazily dumping these bland challenges within seconds of what should have been the conclusion shows a total disregard for the players who slogged through hours of sloppy programming to get to that point. And if the developer doesn't care, neither should we.
