There are also some very good-looking and clever cutscenes, which lay out the lighthearted and proudly clichéd plot. As Lightning McQueen, you're preparing an academy of cars to win the Race-O-Rama competition, but so is your nemesis Chick Hicks. Each scene is filled with the kind of eye-rollingly cheesy one-liners that kids seem to love. Racing game of the year? Definitely not. A decent effort that will entertain kids and tide fans of the movie and original game over until Cars 2? Definitely.

Overall, Cars Race O Rama is simply another licensed game. There isn’t anything that will keep a hardcore gamer interested, however, the younger audience will probably love this title, especially if they are a fan of the movie. Being able to play as Lightning McQueen and race around the Cars world will undoubtedly be a lot of fun for the younger audience they were aiming this game at and for parents it is a safe game for their kids to play. They don’t have to worry about any excessive violence or profane language. Since this game doesn’t have any online play either parents don’t have to worry about who their kids might be playing against. This game was granted “XBox360 Family Games” status and with the holidays coming up this could be a great stocking stuffer.
HonestGamers (Dec 02, 2009)
Cars: Race-O-Rama is a straightforward, kid-targeted racing game that, aside from one monstrous disaster and a collection of repetitive events, is bound to surpass the expectations of anyone who’s played a kid-targeted game with a movie license attached. It may not offer enough fresh content to appeal to older Cars fans, but if you’re 12 or younger or need a gift for someone who is, Cars: Race-O-Rama has just the right content – great courses, fast cars, and (mostly) solid controls – to keep you cruising till the end. Built for kids who love the franchise and are unaffected by repetition, Cars: Race-O-Rama is a solid racer that will appeal to diehard fans of the film.

„Cars – Race-o-Rama“ bietet durch Tuning und mehr Minispiele zwar einen größeren Umfang, verliert aber viel an Charme durch die völlig frustrierende Steuerung der Minispiele „Minirace“ und „Monstertruck fahren“. Die Grafik ist um einiges besser als in den Vorgängern und auch soundtechnisch können diesmal mehr Punkte eingefahren werden.

If there’s anything nice to say about Race O Rama, it’s that it provides a teachable moment for parents: Sometimes it’s best to leave well enough alone.
IGN (Oct 21, 2009)
Everything about Cars: Race-O-Rama seems designed simply to let the game get by with a bare minimum of effort and charm. It is the very definition of an average game, and does nothing to pay homage to the original movie, merely taking up six times the shelf space it should and damning any of the current platforms to yet another throwaway licensed game that simply wasn't needed.
