If you are the sort of person who gets their kicks from hidden object/puzzle games, you may get a few hours enjoyment from Dream Chronicles. However, with a hefty price tag and with better games of this style out there, you may be better off looking elsewhere.

Console Monster (Jan 16, 2011)
Sadly Dream Chronicles fails to deliver for me. With a poor story, out-dated graphics and no real depth to the puzzles and with so many great titles in the genre already available for the same price, I would suggest you steer clear of this one. Spend those 800 MSP on something that isn’t going to entertain you in a single lunch break.
MS Xbox World (Jan 10, 2011)
PlayFirst seems better suited to stick with their ipad or iphone game apps where touch screens rule supreme, than to take on some excellent games like Monkey Island or Sam & Max that make this genre feel at home on a console. The gameplay is rudimentary and doesn't provide any sort of challenge to an audience who wants more bang for their buck. With last generation inspired graphics and music that drives you crazy with any type of extended play, 800 Microsoft Points feels awfully steep. There are better Indie Games for sale on the marketplace for 75% less, like the massaging controller app. Dream Chronicles is best suited for your HDD as a demo only since it doesn't contain any affirmative qualities that warrant a full purchase.

There is ultimately nothing here to make me recommend Dream Chronicles. It's a bad port of a PC game that feels lazy. When other casual games are dominating both the PC and XBLA (Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled, Peggle), Dream Chronicles really misses how to make a casual game fun. It's uninspired, boring, and way too simple for its own good.

The puzzle themselves, too, are usually hilariously basic, or are just drawn out and tedious, like having to play seven piano loops back, one after the other. But the really depressing thing about PlayFirst's spirit-crushing little game is that it'll probably sell enough to result in a deluge of the bloody things, and force us to question the sanity of mankind. Again.

Dream Chronicles will appeal to a very niche audience. Unless you want a watered down point and click adventure title with no voice overs and an uninteresting story, you do not fall into that niche. It’s a joke that this game costs 800 Microsoft points when I can’t imagine anyone, even fans of this genre, playing this game for more than an hour or two. I wanted to like Dream Chronicles, but this XBLA port feels rushed and uninspired. PlayFirst couldn’t even add button controls to the opening menu screen. And if the developers aren’t going to put effort into porting such a simplistic title, I can’t recommend anyone actually taking the time to play it.
