A couple of other unlockable surprises lie in wait, and they're either good or bad, depending on your perspective and whether you enjoy Lost Planet's relatively slow, measured pace. With Colonies' low price (by virtue of the 360 version's Platinum Hits status), it's hard to argue with what is the ultimate, feature-packed Lost Planet package for veteran fans and curious newcomers alike. As greatest-hits versions go, this is how it should always be done.

Of course, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition has been out for a while now, and it's hard to say that you need to buy the game again if you already have it. If you haven't, however, this is a pretty good 3rd person shooter with a fair amount of addictive and challenging gameplay. You can now play online with PC players, and you have several new modes of play to deal with. This is, at its new price, definitely a buy for the newcomer to Lost Planet.

Deaf Gamers
Considering that you get the entirety of the original game, as well as a large amount of extra content, and that you can purchase the game for less than £18 Lost Planet: Extreme Condition – Colonies Edition is a definite purchase for anyone with an interest in the game. The game is as accommodating for deaf gamers as was the original release and graphically the game looks the same (meaning it’s still a good looking 360 title). Whether you own the original release of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition or not Lost Planet: Extreme Condition – Colonies Edition is a great package that is also excellent value for money.

Game Informer Magazine
In the end, super fans and newbies should definitely give Colonies a look. But if you thought the original Lost Planet was just okay, no amount of extras is going to change your mind.

There’s a lot to love about Colonies Edition for the Xbox 360 and for anyone who missed out on Lost Planet should definitely pick up this Platinum Hits package right away. With the main mode intact, the real reward is the extra game modes and the new multiplayer goodies fit for cross platform action. In short, this is the best version of last year’s great action game.

LP: Colonies is a gem of a game, even a year after it's initial release; it's still a next-gen experience that any action fan should try out. Even better there's no excuse not to, since it only retails for $29.99! It's the best damn deal in gaming going right now. Colonies presents the epic boss battles of LP's single player game, along with an online portion that's entertaining enough to be sold on it's own. While some may be off put by the lack of a coherent story in the single player mode, it's still an enjoyable adventure -- and to be honest it's just practice for the stellar online gaming that Colonies delivers in spades. If you're in an online gaming slump this summer and a burned out on CoD4 or the like; Colonies just may offer a reason to stay inside and enjoy the frosty chill online.

Cheat Code Central
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition crams a lot of new content into the frame of a respectable game. The discounted price doesn't hurt either - 30 bucks gets you a more action-packed version of last year's entry. However, there's probably not enough compelling new content to convince previous players to throw more money at Capcom's wallet, but anyone who missed the title the first time around should give it a worthwhile look.

A worthwhile bargain purchase for hardcore LP fans and for anyone who missed the title the first time around, but this is not going to knock everyone off their feet nor is it a "must play" for anyone with less than a fanatical interest in the original.

For those who've been curious about this not-bad game, this edition makes for an affordable way to see it at its best and enjoy some extra stuff to boot. For those who already own it, the value is less apparent. There are new Achievements, and lots of new things to tinker with, but not a lot of incentive to plod through the campaign missions again or start over ranking up your multiplayer stats.

Overall LPECCE is something of a contradiction. While its additional features are aimed at the hardcore lovers of tundran gaming, the fact that it is incompatible with the original Lost Planet is mystifying. Forcing players to start from scratch, with their only reward being some more achievements is an unnecessary irritation. That said, if you’ve never played Lost Planet before then this is the definitive version, and the budget price-point means that you wouldn’t regret your purchase too much. Although Capcom have certainly tried their best to sweeten this deal, they haven’t really addressed any of the issues that Lost Planet originally faced. Ultimately Colonies may leave you feeling a little cold…
