Magna Carta 2 has cemented itself in my top five JRPGs on the system thus far. Perhaps not as glorious as Lost Odyssey or Eternal Sonata, but it definitely keeps up with Tales of Vesperia and Blue Dragon. A unique, twisting story with likable, engaging characters and a deep, entertaining battle system. Highly recommended.

With classic role-playing elements and addictive combat mechanics, Magnacarta 2 is a solid game for RPG veterans looking for a new challenge.

Everything in Magna Carta II is more then serviceable, even the clichéd elements. There's a wide variety of skills to learn, the fun battle system, a good dub and a plot that'll see you through even if it doesn't enthrall you - it's alright. You'll just have to bear in mind that chances are apart from elements of the battle system, you've seen everything in Magna Carta II before.

Magna Carta 2 isn’t a bad game, but it isn’t a great game either. It’s a decent Eastern RPG that will temporarily quell the thirsts for the Xbox 360 users who desperately need a game to sink some time into and aren’t that into Bethesda’s RPG offerings. But the done-to-death story, the overly complicated and frantic battle system and the sometimes plodding pace of the game overall might turn a few people away in the first couple of hours rather then wrap them up into the story. If the story didn’t move at a snails pace and we hadn’t already played through this story before Magna Carta 2 would’ve been a nice sleeper surprise. But in the end all it ends up being is a clichéd RPG that will be forgotten by the end of the year.

Anybody who has played more than a handful of JRPGs will find a game that feels all too familiar from the very outset. If you're fine with buying a game that will feel like you've probably played it before, by all means give Magnacarta 2 a shot. I'd say that newcomers would find more to like here, but the fact is that there are better JRPGs out there on Xbox 360 that I'd recommend as an intro to the genre before this middle of the road adventure.

GameSpot (Nov 02, 2009)
Magna Carta 2 struggles with irritating AI and a generic plot, leaving its high-speed battle system and impressive visual style as highlights to an otherwise banal adventure. Some combat aspects are enjoyable, but the game's shallowness and redundancy are uninspiring.

Edge (Oct 26, 2009)
Sparsely scattered save points, un-skippable animations and cutscenes, and repeated locations and boss fights are anachronisms that will frustrate and alienate all but the most ardent traditionalist. For genre newcomers Magna Carta II’s few charms will be too nested in an awkward, difficult-to-learn idiom to be worth the effort while, for everyone else, Magna Carta’s uninspiring familiarity will breed little more than fresh contempt.
