Rayman 3 HD a is nicely done HD remake of Hoodlum Havoc. There is a good 3D platformer here and the game looks incredible. The variety the game offers is great and should be taken note of. The dialogue and voice acting is also well done, though can get repetitive. What lets the game down is the camera, which is a big problem as it can hinder progress and leave you frustrated. It’s worth a playthrough if you like platformers but some design decisions could leave you frustrated.
Rayman 3 HD is an old classic platformer, and it plays like one, as it shows its age. The textures are much cleaner and the game plays smoothly, but the game feels rooted and dated. Rayman 3 HD is a good game for the asking price of 800 Microsoft Points, but dont expect a complete redo of this once great game. While it is a good game for its time, Id highly suggest Rayman Origins over Rayman 3 HD if youre looking for your platforming fix, as the camera in this is a constant battle.
Overall, the game is fun, all the characters are cute and likeable and the sense of humour is fantastic, but it’s frequently marred by the poor camera. It’s definitely pretty in its new 720p glory but at the end of the day, the gameplay is sadly still fairly stuck in 2003.
If you crave a Rayman game that mixes a retro vibe with contemporary gameplay and gorgeous graphics, do yourself a favor and opt for last year’s stellar Rayman Origins. Rayman 3 HD’s dated platformer appeal is a playground strictly for old-school nostalgics seeking a tangible example of how far the genre has evolved.
Rayman 3 HD reaffirms that it is the worst game of the original trilogy, and it plays even worse in 2012. The fact that Ubisoft Paris didn’t even attempt to better the camera or targeting system is mind-boggling, as it makes the game come off as second rate into today’s world. It’s not a terrible game by any means, but there’s not much reason to go back to it.
