Rayman Origins is an astonishingly good platformer that's guaranteed to bring joy to all who play it. If you don't like this game, you have no soul.
A classic genre made contemporary with a fantastic new art style and graphics engine. Mixed together with a deep system of hidden items to collect makes for a very rich game that is easy to forgive for its a lack of online capability.
Regardless of how you choose to play Rayman Origins, the important thing is that it should be played. Characters speak in Pig Latin. Upon discovering each secret area, an unseen audience expresses my unspoken thoughts, collectively cooing, "oooh!" The underwater sections have appropriately burbly background vocals. I couldn't possibly enumerate them all, but every detail, every nuance is positively dripping with goofy, heart-swelling joy. I don't know about you, but I could always use more of that.
It's easy to call Rayman: Origins some kind of love letter to the genre, but truth be told, I doubt Ubisoft would be dumping Origins at retail during a period filled with much higher-profile blockbuster releases were the publisher so head-over-heels for the game. It's a little bit tragic that Origins wasn't released during a window where it could breathe a bit more freely, and take a bit of its own spotlight, away from the blinding lights of the Assassin's Creeds, Modern Warfares, and even Super Mario Lands of the world. Origins' hours of wonderfully crafted entertainment deserve to be seen, to be played, and to be enjoyed by as wide of an audience as possible. Seek this one out.
Don't hesitate to pick up Rayman: Origins, because it's worth it. The eight to 10 hour campaign and replayable challenges will enrapture and challenge you and there's more than enough here to make you smile and laugh. It's bold in this day and age to make a 2D platformer, but it's even bolder to make a game that throws constant joy in the player's face. There are no brown or dark tones here, only smiling characters, bright environments and catchy music.
It’s a shame Rayman Origins came out during the busiest time of year with all the other huge games now out, as it’s sure to be overlooked, but if you love platforming games, pick this up without hesitation. If you’re strapped for cash because of the holidays, get it as soon as you’re able, it’s that good and easily justifies its price tag. You won’t find a better 2D platformer with a more unique visual style. I’m glad this game landed on my desk to review, as I really enjoyed this stand out title in this busy season.
Rayman Origins is a rare breed indeed. In a culture obsessed with realism and violent action and FPS titles it’s great to see a major studio take a risk and release an old-school platform game for a next-gen system. The Wii may have their Mario games but now 360 and PS3 gamers can finally get a taste of some classic gaming goodness in what is easily the best platform game of 2011 and the best Rayman game of all time. You simply must play this game!
For nostalgic reasons alone, Rayman Origins is a must-have for the platformer fan. Before playing Rayman, I never considered myself a “fan”, per se, but I also didn’t realize, until now, that platformers are my gaming roots. All other games have grown from those roots, and have been nurtured over the years so that I may enjoy the popular games of today. It’s my hope that maybe, just maybe, Rayman Origins can pull some kids away from the shooters so that they can appreciate the genre that started it all, for most of us at least. Simply put, Rayman Origins has every right to copy the moniker given to soccer/European Football: it’s The Beautiful Game of the video game world.
In a blockbuster holiday season of M-rated war games, it’s refreshing to see something so different and special as Rayman Origins. It’s downright gorgeous and a total blast to play alone or with friends. A truly realized vision at the top of its genre, Rayman Origins is an extravaganza with plenty of action to keep it fresh from start to finish and beyond.
Returning to the roots of the series has proved a masterstroke by Ubisoft Montpellier. Whilst the Rabbids were not to everyone’s tastes, and Rayman was pushed to a supporting role in an annoying move, Rayman Origins provides a brilliant case as to why he should still be the main focus. It really is amazing. People who say platformers are dead or lack the charm they once had should play it then shut up and fall in love with the title, like any sane person would.
Origins' brilliance is it keeps that simplicity on the surface, but ends up feeling incredibly varied thanks to its level design. As you play, it becomes increasingly obvious that the levels don't waste your time by asking you to repeat actions. Sure, you jump on a lot of heads and punch a lot of guys, but the levels constantly provide new toys to play with, and then remodel them in multiple ways before you have time to lose interest.
Sorry, Mario, but Rayman Origins is, hands down, the most entertaining platformer you'll find on the current generation of consoles.
Provatelo in ogni salsa!
Rayman Origins really is something special. It's captured all of the true charm and magic from the original and brought it up to speed with modern day technology. It is a fantastic game, if not a little infuriating attimes, and truly needs to be played. Any fan of Rayman, even those of the Rabbid spin offs, isn't going to be disappointed, and those new to the franchise are in for a treat. It's a great launching point, so for fans of the original who want to initiate their kids/friends, it's a great place to start. A definite must for Christmas wishlists. Although he doesn't poke his tongue out any more. What's with that?
I adored my experience playing Rayman Origins and I'm certain that anybody with a love for 2D platform games will feel the same. It stands tall in the field as being one of the best of its kind in this console generation and supplies ample hope that there's not only plenty of life still in that genre, but in Rayman as a franchise.
Rayman: Origins represents the best of platforming that many other developers have tried and failed to successfully accomplish. It's genuinely fun without feeling as though it's blatantly stealing from the plethora of solid indie and mainstream titles before it, a unique experience that kids (and adults) should have a lot of fun with. It's not the lengthiest ride, nor does it hold much for completionists get excited over, but as a family/multiplayer title Rayman: Origins not only meets expectations, but surpasses them with ease.
Rayman Origins takes the character back to his early roots, and does so in a style and a fashion that makes it one of the finest games in the platforming genre. There’s colour, beauty, happiness, frustration and challenge to be found in one of the gaming highlights of 2011. It’s just a shame that it is a game that will be ignored and pushed aside by so many.
A triumphant comeback for the series, Rayman Origins sees the influence of creator Michel Ancel at work once more, and a strong showing for Ubisoft's hand-drawn UbiART Framework, giving the game a unique and stunning style that's entirely its own thing. Rayman Origins is addictive, entertaining and quite possibly the best 2D platformer money can buy on Xbox 360.

Overall, Rayman Origins is arguably the best platform game on the Xbox 360 to date. The charming and stunning TV cartoon-like visuals are simply a treat while the varied gameplay is incredibly addictive and quite the challenge to boot. The game’s co-op mode is where Rayman Origins excels and is worth the price of admission alone. This holiday season, if you are looking for a platforming game that will challenge you and entertain you like no other before, then look no further than Rayman Origins.
Ubisoft has served up an insanely polished and playable back-to-basics 2D platformer in Origins, and while it does nothing new for the platform genre, it does a masterful job in reminding us why the 2D platform game once reigned supreme.
Mario darf sich ab sofort wieder Abflussrohren widmen.
Whether you choose to approach this adventure by your lonesome or with three friends, the fact remains that this is a charming, gorgeous, and thoroughly entertaining 2D platforming experience. Rayman Origins draws a lot from the past, but it does so while managing to feel fresh and full of life. This is one worthwhile journey no matter which era it's from.
Rayman Origins is a beautiful looking platformer that is evocative of a bygone era, crammed full with objectives and challenging gameplay. This is by far one of the best platformers available on Xbox 360 and PS3, and rivals some of Nintendo’s best offerings, which is a substantial achievement on Ubisoft’s part.
It could be easy for some to write off Rayman Origins as a case of publisher greed – opting to release something intended as a digital-only release for full price in shops around the world. But playing the game you soon realise this absolutely isn’t the case. It isn’t cheeky, or greedy or even slightly cynical: it’s a very, very good game with a lot to do, an addictive nature that will keep you playing, a fun cooperative mode and some of the most beautiful artwork we’ve ever seen in a game. Rayman Origins is a very welcome addition to the world of gaming and it’s great to see Michel Ancel on form once more.
