Shaun White Snow Boarding gives a lot and isn’t getting some of the accolades it deserves. It is better than Skate and the most recent Tony Hawk Pro Skater and probably better than Skate 2 as well. SWSB gives a fun game with lots to do and without a fake feel to it.

Shaun White is certainly a decent and authentic attempt at a snowboarding game, my only real disappointment with it is that it could have been made more accessible straight from the beginning.

GameTrailers
Shaun White Snowboarding could definitely benefit from some more polish and it's fairly derivative, but its open-ended design and subdued trick system capture the feel of the real sport. Snowboarders will appreciate the ability to play the game how they want, but it's low on flash, so weekend warriors should buy a three-day lift pass for a test run.

Shaun White’s not the best, nor the worst, snowboarding title we’ve ever played. And its greatest moments are occasionally dragged down by imprecise controls and a sometimes fun-siphoning story campaign. Still, seeing how underrepresented the genre currently is, armchair extreme-sport enthusiasts will likely have a decent time tearing up the slopes and carving their personal path through the title’s detail-drenched landscapes. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself digging the do-what-you-want moments more than the main story missions. Unless, of course, you’ve always felt the only thing holding the genre back was a lack of coin-collecting objectives.

A title that will be cast aside by most because of its unreasonable and unstructured start. Enticing gamers in with some mundane tasks and unsuitable equipment is not the way forward, but after that, the title becomes a joy. A fantastic online mode with upload video abilities will surely be what wins the fans over and I'll definitely be seeing some of you on the slopes in the coming weeks and months. An admirable start for a franchise that can only go forward.

Shaun White Snowboarding is one of those games that you should go into with little to no expectations. Those looking for the next great winter affair may be somewhat disappointed with the mix of gameplay elements that seem out of place at times. However that being said, Shaun White Snowboarding is not a bad game at all. Sure, the single player mode is not going to win any awards soon, but given the fact you can play online with a friend to tackle the various challenges give you even more incentive to play the game. All in all Ubisoft’s first big entry into the world of virtual snowboarding is commendable, and I really do hope that they take the franchise into the world of sequels to improve on a solid first effort.

All things considered, Shaun White Snowboarding is a more than competent snowboarding game. It?s just not that compelling. It?s a real shame too, because as much as innovations like getting off your board, riding chairlifts and a seamless overlap between single player and multiplayer may not sound like a big deal, they all help to create a far more believable and interactive world for you to board in. Expect those features to become standard in all future snowboarding games. Just don?t expect to play through this one to the end.

Shaun White Snowboarding is an uneven game that often feels at odds with itself. Still, I had fun making my way down the different mountains and riding with friends. If you're one of the many hoping this would be the new Amped or 1080, lower your expectations. Though SWS begins in that fashion, it loses the plot halfway through and becomes a different game. While there are, historically, better snowboarding games, none of them exist on Xbox 360. And for that reason alone, anyone looking for some multiplayer fun and a few good hours on the mountainside should give Shaun White Snowboarding a try.

I don’t know what SWS is trying to do. Starting off as a realistic snowboard experience, it then branches off its chosen path to add super powers without going so far as to add unbelievable tricks or innovative level designs. I’m not asking to pull off my board and spin it like a helicopter on my head while jumping over a giant crevice on a run carved out of an iceberg, but I would be a lot happier if I could pull off more than the same grab and spin combo or more than one grind. Play it for a few hours, play it with your friends, after that, go to sleep and dream of SSX 5.

If you’ve been just craving a snowboarding game for a while now, SWS is worth a shot, but only because it’s the only gig in town. It’s not a bad title, by any means, but it lacks what made games like SSX and Amped so great, which is a focus on the sport itself.

GameSpy
In all, we'd recommend Shaun White Snowboarding to those snowboarders who either have an online connection or people to play against at home. While the singleplayer campaign doesn't give gamers many reasons to stay engaged, we can envision a large online community racing, tricking and wagering while snowballs fly through the air. Because really, isn't that what snowboarding is all about?

Official Xbox Magazine (UK)
Which means that Shaun White is not for SSX fans hungry for more extreme boarding action. If you like your simulations or have a genuine interest in the sport, you'll appreciate its realism. Everyone else, however, will just be itching to pull off a 24-rotation mega backflip.

Despite these drawbacks, there’s plenty here to build off for a sequel. The architecture of the mountains, with their secret areas and plenty of random jibs and jumps to play off leave you with plenty to do, and the multiplayer is well implemented. Friends can join you for free runs or challenges at any time, and both private and public chat radio extend for a wide area around the slopes. Regardless, it’s inevitable while you’re playing this game that you’ll realize you’re not really having fun, you’re cold, and your butt hurts. That’s when it’s time to get off the mountain.

GameZone
Shaun White’s first snowboarding game is a mess that misses the entire idea of what snowboarding is all about. With no real sense of speed or thrills, Shaun White Snowboarding comes up short in differentiating itself between both a simulation and an arcade title, so be prepared for a Jekyll and Hyde of a video game.

Extreme Gamer
Shaun White Snowboarding slides down the gaming mountain a little too fast without concentrating on what is important. The game seems to have every bullet point check marked to produce an amped up experience; however the gameplay doesn’t connect like other snowboarding games before it. Something is missing from Shaun White’s first run which doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed in future. The lack of direction, sloppy controls and lack of impact all contribute to the gameplay feeling removed from the snowy landscape. Shaun White Snowboarding isn’t a total dud, there is a lot of gaming to mess around with including a flushed out friend welcoming multiplayer mode. Shaun White Snowboarding isn’t the next coming of Amped, but it is worth a wintery rental. Until another developer jumps into the snowboarding mix, Shaun White Snowboarding defaults as king of the mountain.

Shaun White Snowboarding starts out rough but after learning the ropes and getting involved with the multi-player experience it becomes a passable entry to the now current generation of consoles. If you are a diehard snowboarder this is a game that will give you some enjoyment. Maybe not as much as watching Terje Haakonsen tearing up the back country or Shaun White laying down 900's in the super-pipe but it's at least worth a look.

Overall SSW is a decent game and you'll find some fun for a while with both single player and multiplayer. You'll also find frustration at time when you are stuck and have to get off your board to try and get going again or maybe the camera just ends up getting completely turned around on you. I have to give props to Ubisoft for taking on this project and it shows huge promise for the next installment for sure. If you are in the market for a snowboarding game then this is probably right up your alley.

A lot of us are baffled that snowboarding has been so deathly quiet on 360, and if you’re dying for the next SSX or Amped, Shaun White Snowboarding won’t be the game you’re hoping for. If you’re a serious boarding fan, the mini- MMO multiplayer is totally worth a look, but otherwise, you have better games to play.

Luckily for everyone involved, I’m not reviewing Shaun White the man; I’m reviewing Shaun White the game. I found it to be more enjoyable than not, but boy could it have benefited from something more meaningful than coin collecting!

Ultimately, as the first iteration in a surely recurring franchise of releases, Shaun White Snowboarding is nothing to write home about at all. Impressive visuals and physics don't make up for frustrating controls and a sense that the game is lacking a certain congruency. I'd rather be playing one of the old SSX games to be honest.

It's clear that Ubisoft had some big ideas for Shaun White Snowboarding, but many of these have been hampered by an overly difficult control scheme, cumbersome navigation, a terrible map, too much collecting and a disappointing frame rate. The recreation of the four ski resorts is excellent, the online functionality is well thought out, and at times the views are magnificent, but the game just isn't as much fun as it should have been.

Kombo.com
Shaun White is a game that is almost there, but doesn't quite make it. The structure of the game is good, as well as the execution; however, the design choices are what really put a damper on the overall experience. You'll most likely think the game is okay, but will wish that some other choices were made to make the game more fun than it actually is.

TotalVideoGames (TVG)
Despite offering a freeform control layout, Shaun White Snowboarding still feels like a pretty standard example of the genre at heart. The tiresome open world ramblings between each event ruins what are actually some fairly well designed maps (particularly near the mountain peaks), while bog standard events and the lack of a cohesive story or career limit the amount of immersion this game can muster.

Game Informer Magazine
Shaun White dominates snowboarding competitions on the real slopes, but it will be a cold day in hell before he does the same for video games with this disappointing mess of shallow controls, ugly graphics, boring missions, and poor game design. While the mountains feature some of the best level designs in winter sports games to date and it’s a blast to share the experience with friends online, the simplistic, uninspired controls fail to compensate for the price of the lift ticket. Ollie controls (which are handled with the right trigger) often conflict with the direction you’re pushing, the grabs are limited, precision turning is lacking, and the game often robs you of your sense of speed. Thanks for the invite Ubisoft, but I think I’ll stay in the chalet.

Cheat Code Central
Here were are, eight years since the original SSX, and Shaun White Snowboarding has trouble trumping a PS2 launch title. It's not a matter of the exhibitive aspects of Shaun White – it has no problem dealing out a decent presentation – it's the execution. Nearly every potential plus is a minus: the open world is artificial; the supposedly intuitive control scheme is actually counterintuitive; and the event types range from lackluster to merely okay.

Game Shark
It's inherently fun to do back flips and bomb down hills, but tediously walking up a mountain to line up a perfect jump to nab collectible coins (just to impress a shoddily rendered snowboardin' superstar) makes the career a worthless endeavour and a complete waste of time. Shaun White Snowboarding is still a fun game to tide you over if you've got to have your snowboarding fix, but it's hard to recommend unless you plan on spending a lot of your time online, where it's easier to simply kick back and enjoy the stunning scenery with some pals, all the while ignoring the things that annoyed you in your solo run.

The Review Busters
Snowboarding to find coins to start the game is not my cup of tea. Out of all the extreme sport games Shaun White Snowboarding takes way too long to officially start the game? The controls are way too clunky to even want to find all the coins. This game is not going to revive snowboarding games; this game is going to make sure that this extreme sport stays on the television.

Gameplayer
The more time you’ll spend with Shaun White, the more the lack of polish makes itself apparent. This may have come about because they tried to shoehorn a sports game into Assassins Creed – with varying degrees of success, or because the title was prematurely rushed out to take advantage of the Christmas and North American winter season. Whatever the case, we recommend you rent it first and ride at your own risk.

The Video Game Critic
The game has a plethora of customization options, letting you personalize every detail including your boots, backpack, and goggles (does anybody care?). The graphics are okay, but the mountains fail to instill a sense of awe, and they all look pretty much the same. The game's lively soundtrack is great, including heavy-hitting rock tunes like Cult of Personality (Living Colour) and Barracuda (Heart). For patient gamers who value realism, Shaun White Snowboarding offers tremendous depth and replay value, but if you just want to have fun, stick with the Wii version.

Game Revolution
Shaun White Snowboarding should have used other aspects of the Assassin's Creed engine and gone beyond the boundaries of the real. It just feels like a miss. It's not exciting or fun enough for me, reading more like an instruction manual than anything else. The game seems to have potential, but if it bores the player to tears within the first few hours, so none of that potential will be enjoyed. There is something to be said about realism, but this game is so real, it leaves you cold. If I had to choose a Shaun White title this year, I'd get the Wii version and leave this one on the shelf.

Kikizo Games
From the off, Shaun White Snowboarding is an easy game to hate, thanks to a combination of counterintuitive controls, broken physics and the fact that it almost refuses to give you any guidance as you learn the basics. Persist, and there's a playable board sports game at its core, but Ubisoft's offering is far from essential for fans of the extreme, and frankly Amped 3 and any SSX titles excluding the GBA version offer a better powder carving experience.

Meristation

Thunderbolt Games
What's most frustrating about this game is how good it could have been. IF the controls were a little tighter; a little more responsive. IF navigating the mountain to your challenges was just a little more straightforward. IF there were more variety to the missions. What we're given is an impressive looking and sounding game with awesome environments that we can't appreciate because of so many gameplay problems. I really believe that the developers have something here that they can build on, but in it's current form, I just can't recommend this game.

GameSpot
Shaun White Snowboarding never commits to being either a realistic simulation or an over-the-top, arcade-style game--which makes the experience feel uneven and unsatisfying. The long deviation to platforming exploration feels decidedly out of place here, conjuring up excruciating trials that have almost nothing to do with the actual sport. However, even as a pure snowboarding game, Shaun White comes up way short. Mindlessly performing tricks either by yourself or with friends can be enjoyable for a while, but the lack of depth ensures your attention won't be grabbed for long. Shaun White Snowboarding is like trying to save a snowball in your freezer until summer--it seems like a good idea, but never really works out.
45
Console Monster
Overall the game is bland. As bland as the colour of the snow. As shallow as a frozen puddle. As frustrating as Shaun White himself. Ubisoft tried to take the crown from the likes of Amped and SSX but tripped on the carpet leading to the crown and spiked themselves on the Royal sceptre nearby.
45
MS Xbox World
Shaun White Snowboarding ultimately is more of an uphill experience than it is racing down an icy slope. This is down to the game taking a more realistic and open approach, what may have worked better is accepting the fact that it's just a game, and games are meant to be fun to play. As with skateboarding and snowboarding games in particular, it's that sensation of being able to pull off the nigh on impossible at great speeds and height that ultimately delivers an adrenaline rush in gaming form, which is what Shaun White Snowboarding is most certainly lacking.
42
Gaming Age
The bottom line is that I would suggest you pass on this game unless you are the type of player that doesn't care about the storyline or you just can't wait for a few more years to pass for another snowboarding game to come out. By the way, if you are going to buy this game, make sure that you pick it up at Target as you get a lot of extra goodies including another entire mountain to play on.
40
G4 TV: X-Play
In the end, Shaun White Snowboarding is just an all-around disappointment. It has its moments of giving you the thrill of hurtling your body through the air at dizzying heights and performing ridiculous sets of over-the-top tricks, but for every one of those moments, there are dozens more that will leave you in a speechless rage. If the awful controls and embarrassingly unrealistic AI don’t get you, the glitches, lame physics and interface issues will. The game has no idea what it wants to be.

1UP
It's disappointing that Shaun White crashes so badly on its first try. The game looked promising, as it employs the Assassin's Creed engine and offers an expansive world to explore. But the intimidating controls and lack of direction will scare away anyone hoping for some quick and easy fun, and sports-game enthusiasts looking for the next SSX or a snow-themed Skate won't find it here.
