Shellshock 2: Blood Trails

Sicher ist die Grafik nicht auf dem höchsten Xbox 360 Niveau und die Einzelspielerkampagne ist nach knapp 8 bis 10 Stunden beendet. Davon habt ihr aber mindestens 6 Stunden ein atmosphärisches Kriegserlebnis das Seinesgleichen sucht. Nur wenige Spiele haben eine so heftige Atmosphäre und fesseln euch so dermaßen an den Controller. Hätten die Entwickler noch ein bisschen mehr Inhalt integriert und mehr mit der Polierwatte hantiert, hätte es hier Höchstnoten geben können. Zwar müsst ihr im Spiel einige Abstriche in Punkto Grafik, Umsetzung und Umfang machen, wen das aber nicht abschrecken kann, der sollte sich von diesem Spiel in seinen Bann ziehen lassen. Wir waren häufig total gefangen, schockiert und mussten uns wirklich vor Angst oft zwingen weiterzuspielen! Danke Eidos für dieses packende Spielerlebnis.

Shellshock 2 is a budget title and it shows. The visuals, level design, AI, and just about anything else you can think of can't match up with the top-tier first-person shooters. On top of that, you only get 10 brief stages and no multiplayer options. This attempt at a Vietnam, zombie thriller is about as bad as that concept sounds on paper.

Aside from the ridiculously terrible story, the 6 year-old graphics, broken AI, and lack of replay value, ShellShock 2: Blood Trails doesn’t sound too bad does it? Take the horrors of Vietnam, add in some zany zombie mayhem, plop it all in a game that shouldn’t have ever been made, then take out all the horrors of Vietnam, and you’ve got yourself ShellShock 2. I wish writing this review was as cathartic as I thought it would be, but instead it just made me mad that I had to waste even more time thinking about this stupid game.

Chances are good that you won't hate ShellShock 2: Blood Trails. But odds are also high that you won't particularly enjoy it, either, due to the frustrating controls and the forgettable game design. Even if you're interested in the Vietnam War and have a zombie fetish, you can likely find a better use for your money.

Horror and shooter fans alike may find some cheap thrills within Blood Trails, but ultimately the majority of the game is quite simply a very unsatisfying experience. On a more positive note it does, on the rarest of occasions reminds me more of Monolith's outings with Condemned and F.E.A.R., in regards to the more claustrophobic environments and use of sound, but this is heavily outweighed by Shellshock 2's clumsy enemy A.I. and poor attention to detail. Shellshock 2: Blood Trails is sadly best to be avoid like the plague.

Een gefaald concept wat best goed kon uitpakken. De ontwikkelaar probeert echter zoveel verschillende concepten in één game te stoppen dat het gedoemd was om te mislukken. Het is dat de game enigszins lekker speelt, maar verder is het geen aanrader.

"Shellshock 2: Blood Trails" é uma continuação tardia de um jogo de tiro que não deixou saudades. E segue o mesmo caminho ao apresentar uma história confusa, apoiada sobre uma mecânica genérica e design frustrante, repleta de situações repetitivas. Como agravante, a falta de modos multiplayer coloca o game bem abaixo de competidores bem mais robustos no gênero.

If you are looking for a shooter, you would be much better served picking up one from the multitude of better shooters that are already available. There are plenty of better options out there, no matter what your system of choice may be. With its iffy gunplay, often frustrating gameplay, linear level design, short completion time (four to six hours max), clichéd and uninteresting story, and complete lack of multiplayer, only the most desperate of players should attempt to squeeze any enjoyment out of this lemon. While I would've loved to have played a great survival horror/ shooter based around the Vietnam War, Shellshock 2 simply felt like it hadn't quite fully ripened yet.

Zapomnijcie, że ShellShock 2 w ogóle kiedykolwiek powstał. Lepiej zainwestować w inny ciekawszy tytuł, bo tych na Xboksa 360 całe mnóstwo.

I almost wish the game had been as nakedly offensive as its predecessor, that way I'd have at least been disgusted, and felt something other than tedium with the violent mediocrity the game had to offer. This minor disaster is a huge step down for the developers, Rebellion, after their fun-but-flawed Sniper Elite, and the "people-would-acknowledge-as-better-than-Gears-of-War-had-anyone-actually-played-it" Rogue Trooper.

Without any multiplayer to speak of the single-player campaign is all there is to consider when wondering whether to hand over your cash. To put it simply: do not buy this game. Had this been released five years ago it would still have stood out as a poorly made FPS, so released into a market with the likes of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 sitting pretty on store shelves, and Killzone 2 due any day now, it's hard to see any reason to add this to your collection.

ShellShock 2 geeft inspiratieloos een nieuwe betekenis. Het is nergens memorabel, nergens origineel, maar ook nooit ‘gewoon leuk knallen’. Vijf belabberde uurtjes voor het volle pond. ShellShock 2 is entertainment van het allerlaagste niveau dat nog entertainment mag heten.

With no multiplayer, and only ten levels, the game isn't even very long, but I still couldn't bring myself to finish it. It's no surprise that Eidos has been very quiet about it in the run-up to its launch today: had it been released on PS2, Shellshock 2 would have struggled to live up to the original's 6/10 legacy. Up against World at War, Killzone 2 and Halo 3, it's a complete joke. The worst FPS I've played since Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

Throw in a bunch of QTE events, terrible voice-acting, some of the worst AI we have ever seen and a total running time that would merely be a fart in The Orange Box's world and Shellshock 2 truly is shocking stuff. The idea of mixing survival horror alongside warfare has potential but, on this evidence, we hope it's a while before anyone dares try it again.

All in all, I cannot recommend this game at all unless you are looking for some easy achievements. Which seems to be the games only blessing. Some of you will buy it for the achievements, just like Avatar, and you're going to get around 900 Gamer score for finishing it on hard. The game was just so bad, I could just about get halfway through. Unless you are desperate for a few miserable hours to waste then I would steer well clear. As I said before - try Bioshock, F.E.A.R 2 or Left 4 Dead instead.

Another day, another game about the horrors of conflict. For the six of you that still care about wanting to trudge through a true Vietnam War setting, the choice is simple – you either play Shellshock 2, or sit through the four hour cut of Apocalypse Now whilst daubed in body paint and playing The Doors on the stereo. Here’s your last clue – it’s not the first suggestion.

The only possible way I can see someone trying to defend this skidmark of a game is by saying, "Hey, it's only $40 - that's $20 cheaper than most new games!" I'm glad Eidos realizes this game's shit and isn't going to bilk you for the full $60 but frankly, you're not getting your money's worth no matter what you pay for this game. Even if it was free, it's certainly not worth the five or so hours it'll take you to blow through it. If you have the slightest inclination to play this game, please e-mail me and I will gladly provide you with a list of action games that are not only cheaper but leagues better than this game. If I see you holding this at Blockbuster or Gamestop, I will slap it out of your hand.

Save yourself some money and at the same time see how a game is really put together, by downloading something off Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network or WiiWare. Even the poorest of titles there shows more promise than what’s on display here. It’s a recommendation for Rebellion, too, because it should go some way in teaching their staff the basics of how to make a game.
