‘Splosion Man is a game that does things right from beginning to end and even though it may have you cursing up a storm every now and then, it’s a game that you can get a sense of satisfaction from, either playing it for an hour or for five to ten minutes at a time. Even without its price of only 800 MS Points in consideration, or the extras that the game gives you such as gamerpics, a premium theme and an avatar award, ‘Splosion Man is easily one of the most enjoyable games of the year.

Game Over Online
All in all, Splosion Man is a definite must-buy. Its combination of challenging, but addictive gameplay, impressive graphics, and humor combine to form a memorable experience that stands out and sticks in your head long after you’ve shut the system off. If you want something new in your gaming life, try it out - the price is very reasonable, especially given the high quantity of well-crafted levels. If nothing else, download the demo and give that a whirl - I’m sure that after you do, you’ll rush to add points to your account to fully experience the greatness contained with this single download.

When I saw this during E3 2009 I was excited by the premise of this unique 2D platform game. It is one of those rare games that are perfect for the casual gamer who cannot spend much time gaming or is not very good at gaming in general or the hard core gamer who likes to play with friends and see this fast unique title in action. It is a must buy for all gamers and is a great way to start off Microsoft’s 2009 Summer of Arcade. If the rest of the titles are this good it will be a great summer to be indoors.

Console Monster
Splosion Man maybe my sleeper hit of the year on XBLA. It just popped up on my radar upon release and I've pretty much fallen for it since I started playing it. Twisted Pixel are now up there on my list of developers to keep an eye out for because, so far, they have made consistently original, enjoyable games that anyone can get into.

Game Revolution
Splosion Man feels like a Road Runner cartoon on crack in a good way. Instead of having only one Wile E. Coyote standing in your way, you'll find many of them who are up for the kill. And the so-called helpless victim, S-Man, doesn't just run away every time and has the power to defend himself with a bit more than wits and brainless luck. It's great to see yet another great downloadable game come from Twisted Pixel that not only brings something fresh to the table but does it with style.

If you’re looking for a new Arcade game you can’t go wrong with ‘Splosion Man. It has a certain charm you can’t help but love and the precision based, high octane gameplay is one you’re going to keep coming back to. The boss battles disrupt the pacing and the lack of a narrative is disappointing when you consider the added comedy value it could produce, but the gameplay far outweighs any of its faults. Some may find it too difficult but you’ll want to persist to the very end just to see one of the greatest endings in a long, long time. Trust me, it’s truly genius.

It’s the simplest idea, given a lot of love. Sploding’s fun. I'm giving it 9.

BOOM!!!

'Splosion Man is about the most fun I have had with a platform game since New Super Mario Bros, or Sonic Advance 2. I definitely recommend at least checking out the demo. The only people I wouldn't recommend this game to are people that don't like replaying and perfecting a sequence before making progress. Even though platform games are usually limited once you beat them, online leaderboards and self improvement will add value for the hardcore.

Gamer 2.0
Though Splosion Man definitely is a platformer on the harder side of the difficulty fence, the great level design and presentation really does a great job of making you want to continue playing to see what’s next even when you get frustrated. For just 800 points, $10 in real money, there is a ton of content here that can keep you coming back for more for a while after you beat one or both campaigns that the game has to offer.

'Splosion Man will probably prove too difficult for a lot of people to want to play through in its entirety, but I urge you to at least try (if you die enough it gives you the option to just skip the level). Besides, if you get frustrated with the lengthy solo play you can also jump in with up to four players for 40 multiplayer missions that are designed specifically for groups. I promise that if you make it to the end of the game you'll find the ending credits a worthy reward.

Other than a few dodgy camera angles and the aforementioned difficulty issues, there’s little other than a few repetitive backgrounds that really detract from the amount of fun that ‘Splosion Man offers. For those who crave a bit of old-school platforming with a few unique twists, it’s an essential purchase. ‘Splosion Man is a reminder that games don’t have to be serious, they don’t have to make sense, and they don’t have to cost fifty quid to be brilliant, they just need to have one good idea and a lot of imagination. Throw in some humorous achievements, a few free gamerpics, a premium theme and the first ever avatar award and it’ll make you want to ‘splode in your pants.

Some people are going to pick up ’Splosion Man, play it for a bit, say “this is too hard”, put down the controller and walk away. These people are wimps. ’Splosion Man is not for the weak, or the uncalloused of thumb. But if you do have the druthers to give it a whirl, you’re going to find yourself playing one of the most addictive and challenging games to come out on XBLA so far. To put it simply, it’s a blast.

Worth Playing
Splosion Man is one of the most enjoyable and unique platform games I've played in years. The gameplay is simple to pick up but full of complexities to master. The level design is consistently fun and rarely aggravating, and the game is forgiving enough that almost any gamer can eventually make his way through. There's also plenty here for hardcore gamers, with the time trials and Hardcore mode offering enough challenges to test even the most skilled gamers. Most importantly, the game drips with charm and humor, and it's a joy to watch and to play. For the price of a mere 800 Microsoft points, it's a real bargain as well. Anyone with an Xbox 360 really owes it to themselves to give this strange little platformer a try.

’Splosion Man is without doubt one of the most polished, original, and enjoyable games on Xbox LIVE, a great way for Microsoft to kick off its “Summer of Arcade.” If you enjoy stern, sometimes unforgiving platforming challenges, you simply shouldn't miss it.

'Splosion Man has come out of nowhere, with little to no hype surrounding its release, but it easily ranks as one of the best XBLA games we've played. It's a remarkably simple idea that's been turned into a truly devilish platform puzzler, and it's full of charm and humour without coming across as cheesy. At only 800 Microsoft Points 'Splosion Man comes highly recommended.

‘Splosion Man has personality and humor to spare, and it’s easily one of the most polished side-scrollers you’ll ever have to pleasure of playing. For only 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00 / £6.80), Twisted Pixel has given us an unreasonably fantastic deal that you really can’t afford to miss.

"Splosion Man is bursting with humor, personality, and classic platforming challenges. Not a moment goes by without seeing something new and exciting and 'Splosion Man himself is one of the most endearing new video game characters of the year."

In conclusion, it's good to see an original game hit the market that is quite affordable priced and contains decent graphics, a great soundtrack and some fun gameplay, Splosion Man is deliciously delectable.

Even if all the crazy platforming gives you pause, you should still check out 'Splosion Man if you're at all interested in this kind of game. There's a lot here, the price is right, and games this well-realized don't come along very often. If you ask us, this manic little ball of fire has a long career ahead of him.

Middle East Gamers (MEgamers)
Twisted Pixel has established quite a name for themselves with both The Maw and now ‘Splosion Man, showing that retro game design can be combined with new ideas. ‘Splosion Man keeps things simple while also providing an intense challenge and clever gameplay that feels like it’s straight out of a Super Nintendo cart. It a fast, fun, manic, and ’splosive game that will keep you entertained for a long while.

If all of the games in Xbox Live Summer of Arcade are as good as this then users are going to be spending a lot of Microsoft Points this summer. Splosion Man is not only great value but its great fun, well presented and well worth your money.

Game Critics
For 800 Microsoft Points (a.k.a. $10) 'Splosion Man's 50 single-player levels and 50 multiplayer levels mean that it packs a superior amount of content, and the quality of what's offered is absolutely peerless. It's visually attractive, tuned to perfection, and presents a classic formula that never goes out of style. It might have made me want to pull my hair out a few times, but 'Splosion Man's manic, giggling, and utterly mad main character is someone I'd certainly like to see more of.

PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
Splosion Man is a wonderful testament to old school games, with its simplistic but fun gameplay and huge sense of character. Featuring over 50 single player levels, players are in for a hefty challenge which will last them a few hours. Once this is done as well, you have the time trials too which are essentially speed runs of all the levels, and then there’s multiplayer which adds an interesting twist to the core gameplay. For 800 points, Splosion Man is a steal, and it’d be a shame if you didn’t pick it up.
85
Gamer Limit
Sliding in at a mere 800 points ($10) it’s an explosive deal (I had to say it). It’s a fresh slice of puzzle platforming pie, but instead of eight to ten pieces, you get over 100 levels dispersed over two different modes, single and multiplayer, complete with zany boss battles (m-m-m-missiles!), outrageous camera angles, 5,000 filets, and some of the most rewarding and challenging platforming you will find on any system. Now, go forth and ‘SPLODE!!!

Gaming Age
The fact that 'Splosion Man came out on a slow month is probably a blessing. Many people would probably overlook this game if it were released in the fall during the holiday rush with heavyweights like Modern Warfare 2 inbound. I didn't get a chance to play Twisted Pixel's The Maw earlier this year (Tony thought it was quite average), but after fiddling around with 'Splosion Man, I think I might have to give it a try anyway. If you're into platformers 'Splosion Man will probably serve you well. And if it doesn't fulfill your platforming needs at least it'll be good for fair amount of mindless laughter.

The A.V. Club
Levels can be cleared fast, but the game has high replay value. There are time-based score bonuses which can only be achieved once you have a real mastery of the board. Each level also has a hidden cake—likely in homage to Portal—which are easy to miss during a first pass. Multiplayer adds a new element in the form of coordinating your splosions for more effect. And the low price makes this a fantastic find.

Good Game
Yeah, you can criticise it for being simple, but it is what it is. All up there’s 50 single player levels, and 50 co-op ones, but you can pretty much watch 10 seconds of it and tell whether you'll like it or not. I'm giving it 8.
80
Giant Bomb
That's 'Splosion Man in a nutshell: just fun enough and charming enough to make it worth gritting your teeth through all the tough spots. It's a great second effort from Twisted Pixel, and a tidy little value for the money.

Official Xbox Magazine (UK)
The cruelty of the levels can be frustrating, but you'll keep coming back. The infinite lives and near-instant reloading of checkpoints means stress always loses out to the classic "one-more-go" syndrome. It's a worthy addition to the Summer of Arcade and definitely worth a play.
80
ZTGameDomain
'Splosion Man is a great way to kick off the Summer of Arcade program and is a steal at only $10, if you enjoy platforming. If you're not into some serious timing and precision trial-and-error gameplay, then 'Splosion Man might not be for you. There can be some seriously frustrating moments but working my way through those by trying over and over again to nail that one tricky section was more than enough draw for me to keep working my way through. If you pine for the days when 2-D Mario and Sonic were kings, then give 'Splosion Man a try, but be prepared for some potentially controller breaking moments of frustration.
80
Edge
Restrained and focused, the game encourages N+ timed runs after each of the 50 levels' initial completion. With just one collectable in every level the emphasis is on perfecting rather than exploring, something that helps to maintain the game’s breakneck pace as you delve deeper. The multiplayer levels too, allowing up to four multicoloured ‘Splosion Men to work together, flicking switches and hurrying one another to the exit, are well designed, demonstrating the robustness of the core idea. With the promise of more downloadable levels to come, ‘Splosion Man could become a long-lasting hub for time attack gamers, but the more fussy graphics and grander level layouts rule out the chance of N+-style community support in this regard. Nonetheless, ‘Splosion Man lives up to his name, providing a burst of exciting, arresting fresh IP that significantly changes the surrounding landscape.

GameSpot
For a very reasonable 800 XBL points, 'Splosion Man is a blast. This is one of the most original platformers to come down the road in a while and is one that just might be good enough and addictive enough to spawn a new franchise.
80
Cheat Code Central
This game could have probably used a custom level editor to create your own levels, but as an arcade game that just costs 800 MS Points, you really couldn't ask for a whole lot more. The most important thing is the game is fun, imaginative (to a certain point), and contains a good sense of humor and a quirky protagonist. If you have little patience for platformers, please, don't get it. But… if games like N+ are exactly your thing, don't think twice - get ready for 'splosive mayhem!

Video Game Talk
If you're looking for a solid Arcade title to pick up then you could do a whole heck of a lot worse than 'Splosion Man. This game is a blast from start to finish and it's even better with friends. I don't see there being much replay value with this title, but it's a lot of fun to play through and it will keep you occupied for a while. In my opinion it may not best N+, but it's a fine alternative that keeps you on your toes and laughing the whole time. Personality and polish are this game's strongest assets.
80
Games Radar
‘Splosion Man’s many humorous moments and generally pleasant silliness counteracts stage design that doesn’t really offer enough visual variety through the game’s 50 levels. Rather than guts and blood spray, scientists you’ve blown up spew neatly-packaged deli meats from their wounds. It’s simply brilliant. Also, dying too many times in a row unlocks the option to take the “Way of the Coward” and immediately skip the next level. Your punishment for wimping out is wearing a pink ballerina tutu until you beat another level. You’ll laugh. You’ll swear. You’ll explode. Twisted Pixel has another downloadable winner on its hands and a compelling reason to blow 800 MS Points.
80
Gamestyle
Twisted Pixel showed that it had promise with The Maw, but with ‘Splosion Man it’s definitely cemented its place as one of the top developers for the XBLA. It may be just as frustrating as it is enjoyable, but it’s one of those games you won’t be able to put down till you’ve finally mastered each level. And all of this for just 800 points.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
It seems a little flaky to criticise Twisted Pixel for making one game easy, the next frustrating, and 'Splosion Man is certainly an improvement over The Maw, if only because it feels more like a game you can sink your teeth into for more than an afternoon. Its immediate charms are tarnished only by some repetitive level design and some minor control frustrations. It's an undeniably strong opening salvo in the Summer of Arcade season, but frugal players may want to wait and try some of the other treats in store before committing their Microsoft Points to a game that nudges greatness but never quite embraces it.

[']Splosion Man had mad potential, but it suffers from a complete lack of imagination.
