On a final note, I'd like to mention the game doesn't support the Xbox Live Vision camera as of yet. I'd like to see support added before the official launch of the camera as watching your opponent for tells would bring another element of real-life poker into the mix. Is the game worth 800 points if you missed the free download period? Being a lover of Texas Hold 'Em, I'd have to say yes. The addictive nature of the game, the expansive amount of modes, and the proper Xbox Live treatment should allow Texas Hold 'Em to become one of the most played arcade games for the time being. I highly recommend this arcade adaptation of the most popular version of poker. Don't hesitate to download Hold 'Em and attempt to bluff this card shark!

The game of Poker is certainly most devious. Stuffed full of bluffs and straight-faced millionaires, it certainly is not a game for the faint-hearted. Blowing a pot worth potentially thousands is certainly something I imagine most people would not want to endure in their lifetimes. Recently released on the Xbox Live Arcade, Texas Hold’em has become a major success, engrossing more downloads than any other Arcade game released. But just how good is it?

The game has arrived somewhat later than what MS initially said back at CES, and the title was only free for 48 hours (I guess River Belle casino wanted too much advertising space?), but the Live Arcade Texas Hold ‘Em works well enough and provides some fun online poker and manages to alleviate some of the betting problems inherent in “free” poker by the use of its clever bankroll system.

Overall I’m having fun with Texas Hold ‘Em. The Xbox Live audio makes it a much more fun game than say playing for free on your PC. The fact that you can view other players GamerCards can help decide whether they are worth playing against.

Waarom wel: Pokeren is hip! Pokeren zonder een hoop geld te verliezen! Pokeren is online altijd gezellig!
Waarom niet: Weinig spanning in je eentje. AI kan niet bluffen.

There have been one or two bug reports circulating on the internet, but in my extensive playtime I've not experienced a single problem, so unless two cards of the same suit and number come up anytime soon, we'll have to take these with a pinch of salt. Over all, Texas Hold 'Em is a weighty Xbox Live Arcade game, even if you have to pay 800 Microsoft points for it. For those of you who downloaded the game in the first two days, you already know you've got yourself a bargain.

If you've ever wanted to play poker with a trick up your sleeve, this is your game. It's a fun twist on a classic card game, but the presentation is pretty amateurish. You might expect more from the developer of Stubbs the Zombie. The intriguing concept of Texas Cheat 'Em may be enough to make you overlook the drab visuals, though.

Now my experience with the game and the fellows I played with was fun only after I had resolved myself to the fact that I wasn't enjoying myself and that most everyone else was bored, too. The real fun came from the chat sessions (or watching "All In" Schaldach try and fool ol' "Nickel and Dime" Rycar into going all in on a crappy hand) which is something I could just as easily do over Skype or, better yet, Uno. The only nice feature is that we could fit eight peeps into a room, but there really were only four Deeko folk on that night ("No Show" was a no show), so it didn't make a dent. If you want a quality card game that you'll embrace quickly, definitely go with Uno. Texas Hold'Em had the potential to be fun, but it's just not worth the 800 points you'll spend to get it. If it remained free, I'd recommend it, but at almost ten dollars, it's a losing bet — single or multiplayer.

If you didn’t receive Texas Hold ‘Em when it was free, I feel your pain. Currently, it is running at 800 MS points to download. If you don’t avidly love poker, I suggest you avoid this rendition on the Xbox Live Arcade. If you love card games, the interface and graphics are mediocre when compared to what the team behind Uno put forth in their title. Hopefully Microsoft and TikGames implement the camera features soon to generate deliver more reasons to play this game. Who knows, you may just end up playing Howard Lederer on Xbox Live and having the chance to see him on the camera play his best against you.

With classic card games like Hearts, Spades, and even Uno getting the Xbox Live Arcade treatment, it was only a matter of time before poker came running up to join the party. In this case, it's Texas Hold 'em, a functional, if somewhat middling take on the Cadillac of poker games. Though no one has produced one for the Xbox 360 as of yet, poker games that heavily feature Texas Hold 'em in a single- and multiplayer setting aren't anything new, and Texas Hold 'em for XBLA doesn't do anything special or unique to set it apart from the pack. Still, if all you want is to play against your friends or get in on the occasional tournament, Texas Hold 'em scratches the appropriate itch.
