It's a good game; it's not a great game though. Whilst there don't seem to be any ground breaking innovations or game shattering bugs, it's not really a game that reaches any new heights or grabs you sufficiently enough to go: wow, that's superb. Perhaps I tire of protection missions and doing a few similar missions now and then, or I've grown out of flight sims. Don't get me wrong, it is worth picking up and the whole package is excellently done.

Tom Clancy's HAWX is a welcome addition to video games offering many thrills. Although it can get boring during the missions, the rank system, number of planes, co-op, and online make this a great game.
XboxAchievements (Mar 06, 2009)
I expected this to be a rather dull and repetitive flight simulation but nothing could be further from the truth. It has a superb arcade feel to it, whilst at the same time lets you also play it realistically should you so desire. The assistance OFF mode is probably the most innovative aspect and one that makes things a lot more epic in scope when you are involved in a tight dog-fight. Get a squad of co-op buddies together and things take off from there (I could not stop myself). Buy it, play it, love it.

Leć do sklepu!
Good Game (Mar 09, 2009)
I try not to have preconceptions about games Jung but, honestly, I was not looking forward to HAWX, thinking it would be too hardcore or arcadey but the voice command system and the quality combat have won me over...HAWX is fun, even though you never get to take off or land. I’m giving it 8 too.
Good Game (Mar 09, 2009)
All missions can be done co-op online, which is fantastic. There’s other multiplayer modes that we can’t test out with our offline code, but if they all hold up, it’s an 8/10 from me.
gameZine (UK) (Mar 25, 2009)
So, in summary, the game's pretty decent. As with all flight sims, it's a flight sim - it can get pretty repetitive through its very nature. Still, it's gorgeous to look at for the most part, a new concept for the whole dogfighting scenario is much appreciated and the missions are varied and challenging. Tom Clancy fans will also likely get emotional over the brief inclusions of Scott Mitchell, the star of Ghost Recon. If you want an aerial warfare game, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. will likely be the best option for you.

All in all, Tom Clancy’s HAWX is a fun ride. It doesn't bring very much new to the table, but it also works just fine and doesn't make you take your shoes off at the securty checkpoint. If you like flying games and you can’t wait for the next Ace Combat, then you could do a hell of a lot worse than Tom Clancy’s HAWX, especially if you have the flight sticks already (by the way, where the hell do you find them?).

1UP (Mar 10, 2009)
Despite these annoyances, the online play -- particularly co-op -- gives HAWX significant replayability. Everything from the picture-perfect planes to the stunning real world environments looks great, even after multiple passes. And the flyability afforded by the well-executed controls makes you feel like a pro -- it immerses you in the world of being a fighter pilot without ever taking off. Return trips stay fresh too, because you'll find yourself playing out unique mini-stories as each enemy-dogfighting encounter unfolds anew. HAWX is a remarkably exhilarating entry in a genre that seemed to have been stuck in a rut.
GameSpot UK (Mar 10, 2009)
Tom Clancy's HAWX is a rewarding arcade aerial-combat experience that looks and sounds every bit as good as it plays. The controls, and in particular the ERS innovation, make dogfighting in iconic planes over famous cities as accessible as it is enjoyable. It's unfortunate that the multiplayer options are so limited and that the various aircraft all feel very similar to fly, but there's lots of fun to be had here for novices and top guns alike.

Potential is a key word for discussing HAWX. There's a lot of hope within the engine, and the core gameplay is competent enough to secure its position as an emerging IP. It's still a bit rough around the edges, though, and Ubisoft should perhaps be a little bit ashamed for not allowing its natural potential to shine through. Or, to coin a final cliche, for failing to give HAWX an adequate set of wings.

If HAWX would have had a decent multiplayer and several of the other downpoints would have been taken care of, one could have spoken of a true classic. Unfortunately it now just remains an ordinary flight sim with the Tom Clancy name attached to it.

»Flugsimulation«? Hahaha!
Thunderbolt Games (Mar 08, 2009)
In a way, H.A.W.X. benefits from not being as crazy as Ace Combat. There are no flying aircraft carriers, invisible planes, space combat missions, camp bosses or anything that requires you to fly through a tunnel. This is definitely a more sober and realistic experience. However, you can’t help but feel that H.A.W.X. is a little too tame for its own good. While it’s certainly an enjoyable air combat game, it lacks the edge that other Tom Clancy games so evidently possess.
Gamestyle (Mar 14, 2009)
It may take a while to click, but once it does H.A.W.X is certainly an entertaining ride. It may not have the variety required for multiple playthroughs, it will however entertain you through to the conclusion.

IGN (Mar 04, 2009)
Tom Clancy’s HAWX is very close to being a great game; it’s just missing a few of the intricate pieces that create an enthralling experience. As it is the mission design is lacking, the combat is unimaginative, and the multiplayer is shallow. Still, there are plenty who will be able to enjoy soaring 40,000 feet above the earth destroying dozens of enemy planes. All the while belting out lines of Danger Zone. That’s not weird, is it?
60 (UK) (Mar 05, 2009)
But in essence, HAWX is a victim of the high standards set by the other titles in the Clancy franchise. Games such as EndWar and Ghost Recon manage to strike a balance between being fun to play, while offering real challenge and depth of gameplay. This game doesn't, and as a result it's hard to recommend it as a must-buy.
UOL Jogos (Apr 02, 2009)
While coop does liven up the rather dull campaign, especially if you’re playing with some friends on Live, there still just isn’t much that’s sexy about HAWX. The dog fighting with flight assistance turned off can be intense at times, but those moments are few and far between. While lighting up bogeys over the skies of Chicago is nifty, it’s not enough to make you want to kick the tires and light the fires.
