Whether you're a casual gamer or someone looking for a little action, Toy Soldiers has plenty to accommodate your tastes.
Despite its limited multiplayer offering, Toy Soldiers is a great game that you can easily sink a dozen or more hours into without feeling like you've seen everything it has to offer. You might keep playing because you're competing with friends on the online leaderboards for each level or, perhaps, because you want to unlock a Pickelhaube reward for your avatar. Mostly, though, you'll keep coming back to Toy Soldiers because there's plenty of fun to be had with it even after you've beaten every mission and won a multiplayer battle on every map.
Toy Soldiers is not the best tower defense game on Xbox Live Arcade, but it is an above average and very entertaining entry in the genre. Watching plastic enemy soldiers explode into bits and be launched hundreds of feet into the air as a result of your cannon fire is quite satisfying. Toy Soldiers does a great job balancing its mechanics for both slower-paced strategists and action-hungry shooter fans. The result is an accessible game that might appeal to a wider audience than your usual tower defense affair.
Toy Soldiers is a great tower defense game for fans of the genre, and a pretty solid experience even for those who normally don't like such titles. Well worth checking out and could easily provide a day's distraction at the very least, with potential to become addictive for those who just love watching plastic army men burn.
Overall, Toy Soldiers is a fantastic effort at making war games more appealing to the masses. The unique style of combining the battlefield with a board game works brilliantly well. Whilst it does suffer from a number of problems (namely the lack of single player game modes), the multiplayer is more than satisfactory. If you enjoy the trial, the full game is a must purchase, even at the 1200 Microsoft Points price tag.
