At the end of the day I can’t find a reason for someone to not want to own this game, and I can’t say that I won’t revisit it from time to time just because smashing a Decepticon in the face with an energy axe is not something I get to do enough. I know it took me a long time to get here, but this game does for Transformers what Arkham Asylum did for Batman titles. It has secured a videogame future for the franchise. Just like Batman, it’s not perfect, but it’s very damn close, and I can’t imagine wanting more than that as a first entry. If you do, you’re pretty disillusioned… after all, it’s just a game based on a cartoon and some action figures.
Petty grievances shouldn’t detract from the simple truth that “War for Cybertron” is just plain fun. It isn’t deep. It won’t set a new standard for action games. But I had a great time playing and I believe you will too. This is the first Transformers game I’ve been excited about, and having played it I can say that my excitement was validated. Have fun, campers.
Transformers offers an exciting campaign that is fun by yourself, but a complete blast to play through with friends. Fun multiplayer modes and the always fun Escalation mode. It is pretty clear High Moon knocked this one out of the park.
THIS is how you use the Transformers property and make it entertaining while still trying true to the source material while still having the spirit of what made Transformers so great and I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is not only the best Transformers game next-gen gamers can play, it is also one of the most fulfilling and challenging action-shooters I’ve played in years and a definite purchase, especially if you have any love of the Transformers franchise.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is a a great tribute and representation of the original, Generation 1 Transformers. Fans of the classic 1980's cartoons and characters will find a lot to love with High Moon Studio's representation of the line here. Those who aren’t familiar with the game will also find something to love in the form of a fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable action game, both online and off. Who says that good games don’t come out in the summer?
High Moon has been very good at saying all the right things with War for Cybertron leading up to its arrival in stores, but many licensed titles have talked a great game before falling apart when all was said and done. Thankfully, War for Cybertron impresses with an excellent single-player campaign with full co-op support, the included Horde-alike Escalation mode, and surprisingly deep and inventive online multiplayer component. Transformers: War for Cybertron has taken the magic of playing with plastic and metal toys that turn into cool s**t both alone and with friends and have distilled that into something pretty special. This is a surprise, dark horse contender for best way to spend your time online this summer.
Kurzum: Transformers - War For Cybertron ist Popcorn-Gaming in Reinkultur. Und das ist ganz klar als Kompliment zu verstehen.
As for what was actually made, Transformers: War for Cybertron is a solid but unremarkable effort that occasionally shows glimpses of its true potential. It provides a complete, if a little too short, package of modes and features in a genuinely interesting setting. It just needed a little more spark.
God is a Geek
Considering the lack of decent games associated with the Transformers franchise not much was expected of Transformers: War for Cybertron at GodisaGeek.com. It comes as a surprise then that High Moon Studios have managed to put together a decent game that remains fun despite its flaws. This game will surely put a smile on all Transformer fans faces and provide a fun playthrough for everyone else.
Even towering robots have difficulty hiding the many problems present in Transformers: War for Cybertron. The campaign is an arduous affair that is poorly paced and lacks variety. The only noteworthy element is being able to transform at a moment's notice, but even that seems tacked on to the stale shooting mechanics. But there is still fun buried within this game if you look hard enough. Beyond the campaign are enticing cooperative and competitive modes that are easy to lose hours to. Leveling up your Transformer to become a robot master is an addictive experience, and though you'll experience many of the annoyances from the campaign, it's much easier to ignore these issues when you're surrounded by nine other players. If the core gameplay could have matched the well-used license, War for Cybertron would have been something special. But there's still fun to be had for people eager to scratch their nostalgic itch.
