Turok may not be original, or genre-bending, but it is a great deal of fun. It’s the classic summer movie syndrome: sure, it won’t win the Oscar, but it’s still a movie worth seeing. Turok is a game worth playing, and for once, it’s a shooter worth spending the money on. The long and challenging campaign coupled with the fast and addictive multiplayer makes Turok an attractive package, but really, it all comes down to this.

Good Game
Yeah Baj, some of the animation mapping was a bit off there. Even though the humans all look like they’re on holiday from "killzone", I enjoyed Turok and especially liked the music-free 1-on-1 close combat knife fight at the end. I’m giving it 8/10 Rubber Chickens.

Overall, Turok is a good game, but there is definite room for improvement. It is a good jumping off point for a potential sequel. Going through the game I found myself wanting a dash button, similar to the one found in Call of Duty 4. There were quite a few instances where if I could have sprinted ahead for a few seconds it could have prevented me from getting killed. There are fairly frequent checkpoints in the game insuring that you won’t have to do to much backtracking if you are having difficulty passing one particular part. One unique thing to the Turok franchise is definitely adding the dinosaurs into the mix. If this gets you interested in the title, I definitely recommend giving this title a try.

All in all, Turok is a relatively fun game, and the dramatic stealth moves are mirrored by the awesome array of weapons and modes of firing. However the initial rush is quickly ruined by a poor damage system, shoddy graphics and overuse of bloom effects making many characters in game glow like the Son of God. The story is sadly lacking in depth and the fact that Turok can run no faster than a small child limits the appeal of combat abilities. If you like mindless shooters then this might be your cup of tea (or dinosaur soup?), otherwise save your money and catch up on the AAA games you missed in 2007.

Good Game
Yeah how good was that fight! In fact all the bosses were fun to take down and it’s definitely worth playing through to the end. Invulnerable and often useless squad mates, plus painful difficulty walls brought it down a bit for me – but in the end I actually enjoyed being so stressed out by it all. 7.5 chickens from me.

Xbox360Achievements
The first next generation offering of Turok implements innovative and exciting features into the shooting genre, but unfortunately is let down by a mixed graphical bag, a campaign on the short side, and a lack of multiplayer maps and game types. The multiplayer modes are certainly worth trying though, just to experience the thrill of having to fight both dinosaurs and other human players at the same time. Co-operative play is also offered on three different maps, which is a nice feature most developers appear to be implementing in recent games. Overall, Turok is a solid first person shooter, but will fail to produce a WOW factor and will most likely only keep you entertained until the next hyped game is released.

So while this Turok may not be of the same quality of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on the Nintendo 64, but it will leave you will an enjoyable experience. Still, dinosaur throat-slitting can only go so far, and that along with some other cool features isn’t enough to warrant a definitive purchase. It is worth your time, however, so give it a shot if you can.

ActionTrip
Turok is a fun FPS game, but one that lacks depth in many aspects. In the end, odds are players will fail to immerse themselves in a setting as bland and superficial as this.

Game Chronicles
If you are a FPS junkie, love dinosaurs, and enjoy blasting stupid humans with awesome future-tech weapons then you’ll certainly want to take Turok for a spin. Like most rollercoasters, the ride is short but packed with excessive amounts of adrenaline and WOW moments. Hopefully, the online potential will emerge once more people start playing the game. I know I’ll be there waiting with my trusty knife and bow.

Blend Games
From a general stand point, the best that can be said for this game is that it is a mediocre FPS at best, and at its core, that’s exactly what it is. Good online play redeems the tepid single-player and to sum it up in a quote from a friend, ”Dinosaurs make everything that much cooler.”

GameLemon
FPS fans who have played the current crop of games will find a fair amount of fun with Turok. It harkens back to the most simple of games with linear maps and simple kill-or-be-killed gameplay. However, there's nothing here to provide this title with the crossover appeal of a game like Bioshock, or the rabid fanbase of Halo. In the end, Turok is best described as a middle of the road FPS with a little 1997 nostalgia thrown in on the side.

UOL Jogos

Official XBox Magazine
At its core, Turok is a hardcore, old-school shooter. In many ways, it feels like the Ninja Gaiden of shooters, so if that sounds appealing to you, you'll probably love it more than we did. But if you're looking for a more modern experience, something from the current crop of shooter stars like BioShock and Call of Duty 4, the frustrating bosses and save system will seem positively prehistoric.

Game Informer Magazine
Turok's multiplayer offerings are all pretty bland, too. Dinosaurs exist in the online games as well, but they're AI-controlled bots only meant to add some extra randomness to each match. Instead, they offer little more than an extra target to practice on while passing through an area. Multiplayer, like so many other elements of this game, feels well-intentioned but fails to impress.

In many ways, Turok feels like the new kid on the block who’s still getting the hang of things. Even with some of the glaring problems, the dinosaur A.I., creative level-design, and unique combat shows true potential. Turok doesn’t have a chance of unseating the likes of Call of Duty 4 or Orange Box, but it has quite a few worthwhile strengths that have me hoping for a sequel.

While it’s definitely not a bad game it’s just not unique. In this genre you have to wow from the very beginning and offer something pulse pounding and innovative. This seems to be getting harder after the likes of Bioshock, The Orange Box and Call of Duty 4. I have played a lot worse and it’s a lot better than Turok: Evolution, but it’s still not as fun as the first two games in the franchise. Personally since they have the tech for it I would like to see a current gen remake of Seeds of Evil (complete with Cerebral Bore).

Turok" from developer Propaganda Games and published by Touchstone (and EA) is a nice effort to blow new life into an old and classic franchise. There is still need for some polishing here and there which could have been nicely done if the developer had some more time. Graphics are OK but don't expect any COD4 or even Frontlines. Audio and sound effects are excellent with great voice-overs and stunning effects. The dinosaurs are the real stars in this game and we're glad that Propaganda Games made an effort in re-creatings these prehistoric beasts so authentic. They look absolutely aweomse, especially the big T-Rex.

GotNext
As franchise reboots go, Turok is a pretty decent one. The action is solid and fun, but ultimately lacks anything truly exceptional to stand out from the pack. Even the game's main selling point, gutting dinosaurs, wears thin after a while, no matter how brilliantly they've been rendered and animated. Turok was a good ride for as long as it lasted, but it's not a game I'm going to be coming back to.

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
These issues guarantee that Turok isn't going to win any awards, especially considering 07's stellar FPSes. But the unusual premise, solid writing, and varied play make it worth a look.

Game Freaks 365
In conclusion, Turok does not appear to be a bad game at the surface. Indeed, it has a lot of necessary elements of a good game: a decent length, a recognizable character, online multi-player, a fairly well thought out storyline and so on. Yet these advantages are also its weakness. You never grow to care much for Turok (the character, not the game), the online play is uninspiring and the storyline may explain things well enough, it just can't save a game that suffers from poor graphic design, A.I. and monotony. If you expect to relive Turok with the same amount of vigor and excitement that accompanied it in the 90s, you will only be disappointed by this game.

Console Monster
Overall Turok is mediocre at best, offering a somewhat engaging experience with impressive sound, average visuals and some solid replayability if achievement hunting is your passion. The dinosaurs save Touchstones effort, from what would have been a very dull FPS without them. Dinosaurs are still cool.

Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
Like I said before, Turok isn’t a bad game. It’s just a middle of the road FPS that doesn’t really do much new and is a little archaic in its fundamentals. It’s a good rental if you need an FPS fix or a decent bargain bin title down the road. Otherwise, if you haven’t caught up with your FPS games from the end of last year, spend your money there. Turok is just a bit too lacking to hang with the big guns.

Whereas the first two Turok titles on the Nintendo 64 were incredibly progressive (Turok 2 had some of the most imaginative weapons to ever grace the shooter genre, Cerebral Bore anyone?), Turok is as degenerative as they come. Maybe if this had launched on the original Xbox it might have stood more of a chance, but when the industry (and the 360 and PC more specifically) has the likes of Call of Duty 4, BioShock and the Half-Life series, a game like Turok will never stand a chance. Here’s hoping the new team involved in handling the Turok namesake take onboard all of our gripes so that the next instalment can live up to the true Turok legacy. For now though, this is best left alone.

GameSpy
Turok pissed us off a lot, but ultimately it's a decent shooter with a few elements that are completely awesome and a rampaging difficulty curve. The "stealth" kill animations that play when using the combat knife at close range are excellently satisfying the first ten times you see them, but lose a bit of their luster after you get assaulted by four raptors and get the same forehead-skewering animation four times in a row. Still, when taken in small doses, Turok is brutally and bloodily entertaining. In a way it's almost a casual game, easy to pick up but even easier to put down (and also easy to pick up again once your furious ire has subsided).

Definitely not the best debut game a new company could hope for, and in fact could be called one of the worst debuts in recent years for a studio that initially showed so much promise. Gamers deserve more, and hopefully should demand greater quality from both developers and publishers by leaving this steaming pile of dino shit on the shelves.
