Description
Xuanyuan Jian, "The Sword of Xuanyuan", is one of the most famous Chinese RPG series, which is based on Chinese mythology and historical setting. The third installment of the series unexpectedly takes us to Europe. The year is 750 AD, and you control a knight named Septem. He is an orphan who doesn't remember his parents, but since his eyes have different colors (one blue, one black), he suspects one of his parents might be of Asian origin. One day, Septem's commander tells him that he learned from an Arab trader that somewhere in the far East there is a place where he could find a solution to stop all conflicts and wars. Because of his mixed blood, Septem is asked to travel to Asia and to find out about this secret knowledge.
The game takes you across the world of 8th century, from Europe to Arabia, and through Tian Shan mountains to China, which was ruled by the Tang dynasty, enjoying cultural prosperity. The gameplay system is influenced by Japanese RPGs. You navigate the hero over pre-rendered backgrounds, and fight random enemies from a third-person platform perspective. The game uses Action Time Battle system and the enemies will attack when it is their turn, regardless of your actions, so you have to be quick when choosing commands, like in
Final Fantasy games. During the battles, you can attack physically, cast magic spells, or perform special actions which deplete from your stamina. You can also mix items to produce new ones, and recruit enemies into your party in order to summon them in battles.
