Anything that manages to pry my 12-year-old son from Halo 2 has got to be a really good game. Zoo Tycoon 2 is a simple, non-violent, educational and an all-around fun video game. In other words, it’s a shining beacon in an industry continually bombarded by moral attacks and debates about violence. It truly is a wonderful franchise, and I hope it continues to grow.

And so Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species is a very nice expansion pack. It gives you enough new things to do that even if you played Zoo Tycoon 2 a lot when it came out, you’ll now have an excuse to play it some more. It’s just that none of the changes made the game any more difficult to play -- really, it’s just the opposite since tours can generate a lot of money -- and so Zoo Tycoon 2 still isn’t a very exciting game to play if you’re looking for a challenging strategy game. But if you’re a casual gamer who enjoyed Zoo Tycoon 2, then Endangered Species is probably just what you were hoping for.
When I first heard about the Endangered Species expansion pack for Zoo Tycoon 2, I had a lot of mixed feelings. The original had just left me incredibly frustrated after my fences weren’t working out, and the animals kept eating each other. So it was with hesitation that I installed the expansion pack onto my PC.
When Gaming Nexus reviewed Microsoft's Zoo Tycoon 2 just about a year ago, reviewer Ben Berry found that "eventually it can become repetitious, as there are only 29 species of animals, 45 or so buildings, and roughly one hundred challenges available." Well, if that's Ben's only concern, he will definitely want to take a look at the Zoo Tycoon 2 Endangered Species expansion pack.
This truly is a worthwhile product. Worth your time. Worth your money. Worth your consideration at the very least. There simply is no comparison between the "Endangered Species" expansion pack and any other product that claims to be an expansion. Zooty fans should pick this up immediately.
Microsofts Tierparkmanager bekommt Zuwachs.

About a year ago Microsoft Games released the second iteration of their zoo simulation, a fairly polished game with a charming presentation and decent gameplay. It did have a few shortcomings and annoyances, but the new expansion pack titled Endangered Species fills in a few of these irritations while giving you more to do and more to decorate your zoo with.

Watch out animal lovers! This game is amazing. I was a little disappointed with Zoo Tycoon 2’s construction: having to build the fences and the lack of a variety of information on the animals featured. Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species took care of both of these problems. There are ready-to-use sections of land, already fenced in. There is a little more information and cool facts about the endangered species.
Wanted: operations manager for an up and coming business enterprise. Experience not necessary, but applicants must love animals, possess a good head for business and be prepared to get their hands dirty.
Ever wish you could get a balloon bouquet for your dogs or cats having sex? How about making money off letting other people watch these animals? Well, in Endangered Species, the new expansion for Zoo Tycoon 2, you can!
Gamers' Temple, The
Endangered Species is the first expansion game for Zoo Tycoon 2, and as you can probably guess it adds new creatures to your zoo’s menagerie from the ranks of the world’s endangered animals. Other new zoo features are included such as jeep tours, sky trams, and elevated walkways, but overall the gameplay remains virtually unchanged from that of the original game. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing will depend on what you thought of the original.
A good expansion pack is really about not only creating new content and gameplay, but making good changes to the way a game plays. One of the best expansion packs ever made, Brood Wars for the original StarCraft, managed to completely alter the way the game worked while maintaining game balance and adding tons of content. While Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species is in a much different genre, the rules still apply. An expansion needs to have content and gameplay improvements that help make the game something more than it was. Blue Fang at least added some new content with endangered animals and a couple of new features, but overall, Endangered Species isn't exactly going to turn the game into the pinnacle of the tycoon genre.
Unfortunately, the developers have failed to look into the problems that plague the original game. The computer controlled characters are still incredibly stupid, with your zoo keepers often unable to find the entrance to different sections of the zoo. This results in the regular flow of warnings indicating that Joe the zoo keeper cannot find the entrance to the wolverine exhibit, despite the fact that he is standing right next to one.

Earlier this week, we brought you the review for Zoo Tycoon 2. The game was released nearly two years ago but it’s expansion pack, was only released a matter of weeks ago. Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species adds a fair amount of content to a very solid package but has it fixed any of the game’s underlying issues?
I've done something no zookeeper has ever done before: I've successfully bred a Javan rhinoceros in captivity. Only sixty (plus one, now) of these creatures are known to exist. I'd never heard of the Javan rhino before a few days ago, but I obviously show a superior natural talent for animal husbandry. (My Javan rhino is made of polygons, but let's just keep that from the International Rhino Foundation when it comes time to fill out the grant paperwork, shall we?)
Last year I reviewed Gaming Horizon’s copy of Zoo Tycoon 2, which was developer Blue Fang Games’ attempt to add something worthwhile to the burgeoning tycoon genre. In short, it wasn’t impressive (you can see the review here) due to an all-around lack of excitement. About a year later, we have upon us the game’s first expansion pack. Entitled Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species, you can bet it adds a few new animals to the mix. Unfortunately the other additions aren’t substantial enough to change the final verdict by much.
This zoo business is for chumps. I can't wait for the day Tycoon-Game Tycoon is released, giving players around the world the opportunity to unleash their very own exploitation of an untrademarkable pseudo-franchise on an unsuspecting virtual public. Not only will it bring the whole tycoon thing full circle, but the potential for Charlie-Kauffman-esque existential hijinks is sky-high. Until that wondrous day, those dreaming of raking in the virtual dollars will be tending theme parks, zoos, lemonade stands, airports, coffee shops, fast food restaurants, and pornography empires. With the release of Endangered Species, the first expansion pack for Zoo Tycoon 2, Microsoft attempts to bolster their flagship entrepreneurial simulation.
Nothing has really changed, but now you have new shiny things to show off. This is Endangered Species in a nutshell; a few added toys, but nothing that really feels "new". The core gameplay is still the same: fence, biome, add male animal, add female animal, assign zookeeper, do it again. Afterwards you can pretty much let your zoo go by itself as you wait for the congratulations message at the end of the scenario.
