Simplicity

The Good
Barreldrop is a real challenge; you've got to drop the five barrels at precisely the right time and in the exact center of the drainpipe or you lose the barrel (and therefore your life). Flash the dog is help out in case you miss the drainpipe the first time, but he is only there for that drop. You only get one chance at doing so.

The graphics are drawn nicely, and the animation of Flash running across the horizontal line then climbing the ladder is great. Each drainpipe is labeled 5 to 1, and it is useful that these numbers flash if you already drop a barrel through them.

The mini-games are fun, and these range from math question to a nice little arcade game similar to Space Invaders. These games determine if you should continue the game. Even if you get a question wrong, you can remember the right answer for the next game.

There is a high score table that shows when your game is over, so Barreldrop could be classed as a score-attack game.

The Bad
When it comes to the mini-games, the questions are repeated after each level completed. Also, I don't think it's fair that you lose the game if you fail these questions.

The Bottom Line
Barreldrop is a very simple game for the ZX Spectrum, in which you have to drop five barrels into drainpipes. The graphics and sound is quite basic, but that is what Speccy games were like back then. There are a series of fun mini-games, which you must win if you want to continue the game. It serves as a score-attack game, in which you keep trying to beat your previous score.
