In Galaxy Jailbreak the player takes control of some kind of man of law who has just captured some evil alien generals and had them locked up in jail. But now a rescuing attempt is under way. A group of alien soldiers try to evacuate their masters by hyperspacing into the scene and breaking down the walls of the jail. It's of course up to the player to stop them and defend the jail.

The game is a fixed screen shoot 'em up. The player controls a stellar missile base at the bottom of the screen and above him is the jail. Similar to other early shooters like Space Invaders the player can move left and right and shoot up against the enemies. The enemies teleport into the screen one at a time and they then bounce around the screen as if they were balls from Breakout. As they hit the jail they will remove one piece of its walls at a time until the holes are big enough for the generals to escape. The player scores for each enemy he hits; 20 points for soldiers and 50 points for generals. When generals are hit they turn into three soldiers. The player also has to watch out for the bombs that the generals drop.
