Contributing to MobyGames

Hopefully you're asking yourself, "How can I contribute to MobyGames?" There are many ways you can contribute to MobyGames. We encourage everyone to help out, whether it is by contributing content, promoting MobyGames to friends, or even by helping us financially if it is within your means.

Promoting MobyGames: Word of mouth is the best advertising there is. If you like the resource that we provide to you, let your friends and family know. For those of you who run a website and want to provide a link to MobyGames we have some simple banners for your convenience. MobyGames becomes a better and better resource the more people participate in the project.

Financial Support: The harsh reality is that this project costs us money to run. If you feel you can afford to help defray some of our costs, a $5 donation would be most appreciated. If you make a contribution, you will receive a bronze star () next to your name so that all MobyGames users know you are a contributing member.

If you plan on buying video or computer games, you can visit one of our affiliates on the Friends of MobyGames page to make your purchase.

Add a game entry: MobyGames' greatest empowerment comes from the users who build it. Don't see your favorite game in the database that deserves treatment? You can add it. Log into your MobyGames user account and click Add a Game (it's also located on the left side of most pages). The entire gaming community will thank you.

Ratings and Reviews: A powerful MobyGames strength lies in the ability given to users to rank and review games that they see. See a game and think its rating (MobyScore) is too high? Rate it fairly and contribute your opinion to the mix. Did you really like (or hate) a game in the database? Write a short (or long) review. Both ratings and reviews can be found as options on the main display page of a game.

Box covers and screenshots: Do you have a box that we don't have (or that we have a bad picture of)? Better yet, do you have a rare alternation version of a box, such as an earlier or European release? Or have you taken a screenshot that perfectly illustrates the game? You can help us out by scanning the front and back of the game box (or capturing a screenshot with a capture program) and contributing it to a game entry by selecting the "contribute" link on the left side of the game entry. We'll gladly take it, edit it if necessary, and put it into MobyGames. (Please scan no lower than 100 DPI, and compress the scan into JPEG format before you send it to us. For screenshots, please submit 256-color or less screenshots as a .gif, and 16-bit color or higher screenshots as a .jpg.)

Featured Game: Featured Games appear on the home page of MobyGames and highlight a game for users to visit. If there is a game deserving of special attention you want to feature on MobyGames, use the featured game wizard to add it.

Polls: There is aways a poll running on MobyGames, and if you think you have a good idea for a poll, you can use the poll wizard to add it to the system.

News: Let everyone know about new and interesting stuff. You can contribute news items that will be displayed on MobyGames. All that we ask is that the news item be interesting, loosely video game related and not blatant self-promotion. Submit news here.

Trivia, Hints, and Misc. items: If you have any other bits of information to contribute that appears missing from an entry--a developer bio, insider information, etc.--please don't hesitate to contribute it.
