We usually don't publish modern gaming-related news because that's not our focus, but I saw a merger recently that I thought you all should know about: Infogrames Entertainment SA and Hasbro, Inc. both announced today that they have entered into strategic agreement, comprising of three elements:
Infogrames will purchase 100% of Hasbro Interactive's common stock, as well as Games.com, for $100 million. The deal is expected to close early next year.
This acquisition will mean Infogrames gets a catalog of well known game titles and companies that Hasbro acquired, most notably what's left of Microprose, and Atari's intellectual property rights. It's a significant merger, not only because it's a large, expensive merger, but also because the Atari and Microprose properties will go back to a traditionally "true" computer game publisher. It's a small ray of hope that something decent will be done (ie resurrected) with Microprose.
