We usually don't publish modern gaming-related news because that's not our focus, but I saw a merger recently that I thought you all should know about: Infogrames Entertainment SA and Hasbro, Inc. both announced today that they have entered into strategic agreement, comprising of three elements:

  1. Infogrames will acquire Hasbro Interactive
  2. Infogrames gains exclusive rights to develop and publish digital interactive games based on current and future Hasbro properties
  3. Finally they will acquire

Infogrames will purchase 100% of Hasbro Interactive's common stock, as well as, for $100 million. The deal is expected to close early next year.

This acquisition will mean Infogrames gets a catalog of well known game titles and companies that Hasbro acquired, most notably what's left of Microprose, and Atari's intellectual property rights. It's a significant merger, not only because it's a large, expensive merger, but also because the Atari and Microprose properties will go back to a traditionally "true" computer game publisher. It's a small ray of hope that something decent will be done (ie resurrected) with Microprose.
