User review spotlight: Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar (DOS)

Darn. Darn. Darn. I recently pre-ordered an Xbox from KBToys and was I pretty psyched since nearly everyone has stopped taking pre-orders. However I just received an email from them saying it won't ship until after December 21st. Now I think that is pretty bogus not being upfront with people saying when the item is supposed to ship AFTER they place the order. I checked all the major sites and only found one retailer willing to take preorders and who can ship on November 15th. The catch is they are charging more than anyone else. Is it worth it? I still haven't decided.

Having stayed home from work today to accept a UPS delivery I was able to get a lot of work on Moby done today. In fact I got a little bored after doing so many approvals and managing all the SKUs from Chips and Bits. I decided to use a really cool and little known ( or used ) feature on MobyGames the; Have/Want Lists. I spent a few minutes and added my entire PS2 game collection. You can see it here. Of course I had to add a few games that were not yet in the system.

Belboz has just been getting jiggy with advertising blurbs! For example, check out the advertising blurbs for our Infocom entries, like Zork.

Silly trivia: The previous newsflash was our 300th. Yes, MobyGames is committed to keeping you informed about what goes on in the MobyGaming universe.

More silly trivia: MobyGames has over 18,000 individual screenshots, 45,000 developers, and almost 90,000 game credits. The last two numbers are significant in that our data integrity is holding strong -- there's no "sid meyer", "Sid Meier", "SCID MYER", etc -- it's all properly consolidated and categorized.

Last silly trivia for the day: Sid Meier was the 3rd developer ever entered into the system.

We've recevied a lot of great poll ideas recently, covering a wide range of subjects. This is great! Unfortunately, many of you are confusing a "poll" with a "survey", so we've had to edit the poll answers down significantly. Please, no more multi-paragraph answers to poll questions, okay? :-)

There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. Hopefully we are going to push out another version shortly. Can't say much just yet, but we're pretty excited about some of the improvements.

We've had an overwhelming response to our request for approvers. However, at this time, we are only in need of two approvers. Don't worry, because if everything goes as planned, we will be looking for many more approvers in the near future, and on a longer term basis. Thanks to everyone for their offers of help.

Brian pushed live a new release yesterday. We have overhauled the have/want lists, mainly the ability to find out information. The search is the main improvement, and there is now a game page to view the people who have/want the game. The lists have tighter integration to our purchasing affiliates, so your lists are cross referenced to the Chips and Bits catalog. All users have default have/want lists etc.

We recently became a Gamezone affiliate. We created a better 404 page, better error handling/reporting and lots of other internal things that users won't notice, but makes Moby run a lot better.

We have added the ability to delegate approvals to our users, currently only reviews can be delegated. Since we plan on adding many more platforms, both new and old, it will be important to give some of our top contributors the ability to approve submissions. We are currently looking for a couple people to be approvers for a short trial period. Send mail to approver-request@mobygames.com if you are interested.
