Gene Davison contributed our 2100th entry with the slightly-controversial (and ultimately terrible) ZPC.

When adding a game via the Add Game Wizard, make sure you get the name right! The Wizard checks to see if the game title you're entering into the database already exists, and puts up a small warning if it finds a match. But it can't match properly if you misspell or mistype the name...

I've had to reject some entries recently because of this, so I thought I'd warn you.

We've discovered a bug in the search indexes that is causing new games to be omitted from quicksearch results. We're working on the problem and will post another note when it's fixed.

In case it wasn't obvious: MobyGames will not accept game entries for games that have not yet gone gold (been released into production). In other words, if a game is still in development, it will not be accepted into MobyGames until it has been published.

We've got a new feature in development that we're excited to be unleashing, but it won't be ready for about 2 weeks or so. Until then (warning: spoiler alert), don't submit any trivia that involves "versions" or "release dates". You'll see what we mean when we roll out the feature.

Brian's away for a bit and my Win95 box has some serious problems, so there might not be many approvals for the next 24 hours (or however long it takes for me to nurse my sick PC back to health).

We've rolled out a new release, you should read the release notes for more information. One important thing you should know is that part of this upgrade requires us to rebuild our search database which will take sereval hours. Unfortunately, during this time the searches will give you imcomplete results.

If you have a clear sky in your area, go to a dark place at night and look up at the stars. The earth passes through an asteroid belt this time each year, and the possibility of seeing shooting stars is greatest on August 12th and 13th.

Not gaming related, I know, but I thought it would be of interest to people of like mindsets. :-)

Congratulations goes to Pix, who entered our 2000th entry Wings of Glory, a forgotten Origin WW1 flight sim that used the same 3-D engine as Strike Commander and Pacific Strike. (Seems as if that engine kept going back in time, eh?)

Another sign of MobyGames' success? When dedicated users are contributing entries to the database -- and good ones at that -- for games that I personally have bid on and purchased specifically to enter into the database myself! I was "beaten to the punch" three times tonight during approvals (Wings of Glory, Clandestiny, and UFO), which is ironic on several levels.

Which reminds me: I have some more games to add to the Game Giveaway soon, so watch News for the announcement that I've updated that area. Stay tuned.

There's a lot of games in the queue waiting for approval; I promise we'll get to them before the clock strikes midnight (GST -6, anyway :-)

Looks like we'll be breaking the 2000 game entry mark before the weekend. Woohoo!

It seems as if our Abandonware article was used in researching this story on CNET about abandonware. It's a fluffy read, but still worth looking at.

No approvals until Monday night, folks. I'm busy with a personal project (gaming-related -- stay tuned) that will be done by then, so look for new content Monday night.

Unless Brian gets back from his Canadian canoe trip by then... :-)

I'm holding a midnight vigil tonight for my true-blue IBM PC/XT. After over 16 years of faithful service, it kicked the bucket, hard. While the power comes on and the hard drive spins up, it does nothing else; it won't even beep out a POST error code. RIP, my poor little PC. You were a good friend.
