New feature article up today: MobyGames user Unicorn contributed an article that lists the past, present, and hopeful future for what many call traditional "pure" adventure games, like King's Quest, etc. Have a gander at it by clicking on the link listed in the lower-right Featured Article sidebar. Of particular note is his comparison of the experimental period of adventure game development to Romantic Era music.

As always, if anyone would like to contribute a feature article, go for it! We give out anywhere from 100 to 250 bonus contribution points based on length and content. Just email contributions@mobygames.com first to let us know your article idea.

Sigh... It's official: Dynamix is no more. Papyrus and Impressions, however, have survived Sierra's reorganization. Here's an excerpt from the press release: "Dynamix, based in Eugene, OR, will be closed and the development of key franchises including Tribes will move to Sierra's Bellevue studio. The Bellevue studio will remain central to the new organization, and will, in addition to Tribes, be responsible for the best-selling SWAT and Hoyle franchises. Concord, MA-based Papyrus, which has a strong heritage in the development of racing games, will continue as a key studio, maintaining responsibility for the NASCAR franchise. Cambridge, MA-based Impressions, will remain a key development studio, responsible for a number of pre-eminent titles including the Ancient City Building series and Lords of the Realm."

For those of you trying to add an entry for Echelon (the recent game by Bethesdea Softworks) and were getting an error about "This game is already in the database", well, it was -- but that Echelon was the old Access game. I've changed the name of the Access game, so if anyone wants to add an entry for Echelon (2001), feel free.

We took down Moby briefly today to add memory to three of our servers. Our main server, the one with the database, did not want to boot with the new memory. *sigh* The motherboard in that box has acted pesky before. This means we are going to do a complete hardware upgrade a lot sooner than we wished. Sorry about the incontinence. These upgrades are necessary though. We keep having major growth in traffic and steps such as the one today will ensure we do not run out of capacity in the future.

Rumor has it that Dynamix, long incorporated into Sierra Studios, was just let go. Could someone confirm or deny this rumor? If it's true, it's the end of an era for Jeff Tunnel's multi-talented group.

Calling all featured games. We are trying to have a new featured game for each platform every week. However this tends to be a pretty steep goal considering our current work load. Do you have a favorite game? Is there something you felt was revolutionary? Did one game make you waste hours, days, weeks of your life? Do you want you name in lights? Submit a featured game. We need em. The console systems don't seem to get a lot of submissions so you will most likely see what you wrote published in a day or too.
