Virtua Racing Deluxe
Description official description
Virtua Racing Deluxe is an enhanced arcade-to-console conversion of Sega's 3D racing game. This game is primarily an arcade-style affair; Players compete in a 5 lap race with timed checkpoints. It's also possible to play with 2 players in a split-screen mode.
The 32X version of Virtua Racing adds a couple of new features. There are now 3 different types of cars to drive, including a stock car and a prototype racer. Furthermore, there are two all-new tracks.

The Good
Much better than the Saturn version. Simple controls. Simple game gaming. Or, to sum it all up, simple fun. The game runs flawlessly, unlike the Mega Drive and the Saturn versions. Also to note is the fact of including three types of racing cars, that is, Formula One, Sport-Prototypes and last, but not least, stock car racing quite reminiscent to NASCAR. Addictive as hell. Before selling my Mega-Drive mini I had it there also, but I still keep playing it in my computer via emulators.
The Bad
It could have had more circuits considering what Sega was known to be able to do and that we saw later in Sega Rally, the crashes, as usual in this series, are usually exaggerated, and while it is funny to see the car doing barrel rolls after you crash, and even if I know it is an arcade game, I do not like the fact that when you crash with non-racing elements, that is, places on the road, protections, and this kind of stuff, well, that brings the car to an almost complete hall and that messes up your race.
The Bottom Line
Everything is almost perfect, and personally, again, but this has to be repeated to future and/or potential players, this 32X version is much better than the Saturn one. Saturn is a great platform and my favorite from the 32 bit era, but this game is better on the 32X.

One of the best racers ever created.
The Good
A significant amount.
First of all Virtua Racer is so utterly playable words cannot describe it. The game is addictive and handles so well.
The cars are all weighted differently and accelerate and break at different ratios.
The extra two tracks extend replay value to a large degree and the bright colors, brilliantly rendered environments and the pure arcade perfect qualities of the title are lend to it being possibly one of the best racers ever made.
The Bad
The graphics are considered average by today's standards and there is quite a bit of pop up evident while driving through the tracks.
Frame rates can fluctuate from around 30fps to 20-15 fps every now and then.
AI drivers can be quite aggressive at times.
The Bottom Line
A fantastic racer with gorgeous polygonal graphics, bright colors and addictive game play that will have you hooked.

The Good
Virtua Racing Deluxe (1994) is the best of the cartridge games released for the ill-fated Sega 32X. It does not have that rushed feeling that many of other cartridge based 32X games do. It is a near perfect translation of the coin-op arcade game with cool extra features such as additional cars to and race tracks to drive on.
The Bad
Replay value on racing games really depends on how much you enjoy these type of games. Personally, race car games can get old pretty quickly. Once you seen all the cars, the different camera angles and tracks, the game may become boring unless you and your friends are race car fans.
The Bottom Line
Virtua Racing Deluxe (1994) is a near perfect translation of the coin-op arcade game, with some nice extra features. It is one of the few 32X cartridge games that does not feel rushed. Fans of race cars will enjoy the ride the most.
